I believe there's an aura of attraction to people who know who they are and what they want, and that happens to coincide, frequently, with "older" women.
I wonder if part of the attraction to larger Dommes isn't ingrained by a long history of larger, older women being portrayed (in movies and on tv) with Strong Personalities, to say the least. The first example to immediately spring to mind is Hyacinth Bucket from BBC's Keeping Up Appearances -- there's certainly an astringently clear D/s dynamic in her household!)
