Conservative radio stations (Faux news) and conservative talking heads (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc) state over and over and over again that media has a liberal bias.

But they never bother to empirically prove that statement. Instead, they rely on the age-old approach that if you scream something enough times, it will become fact.

Believe it if you want, I personally tend to find a factual basis for claims.

Strange ... you find factual basis for your claims, yet haven't listed any!

lol, at any rate, I certainly DO agree that talk radio is a conservative bias ... so much so that it is also cartoonish. Who owns the media is less important than who will buy it (ratings and such). TV and most print media has a liberal spin. That is an opinion to be sure, but one that I think is shared with enough people to offer creedence.

If more conservatives demanded it, there would be a more conservative bias of TV and print media (besides the laughable FOX news). If more liberals listened to talk radio, it too would find a more liberal agenda coming through its airwaves - the liberal talk station that they tried a few years ago failed miserably ... not so much because it was good, bad, worse, or better than its conservative counter parts, but because it just did not find an audience.

At any rate, the point of that post of mine that you refer to was to point our how utterly ridiculous it is for liberals to point to conservatives and say "see! THEY are lying, cheating blah, blah, blah" without owning up to the tremendous faults of their own ridiculously extremist views; and that it is just as ridiculous when conservatives do the same thing.

Fair enough.

In Al Franken's book "Lying liars and the lies they tell" he offers a matrix showing the number of times Gore was bashed compared to the number of times Bush was bashed. He cites source data. Feel free to review it.

I imagine you could find out the other of ClearChannel by doing a Google search.

I am sure Mr. Franken lists quite a few of these sorts of 'factual' things in his book, and I would consider it to be aboutas useful as one of Mr. Limbaugh's books. Here's the interesting thing about these sorts of 'facts'. They are easily maipulatible depending upon which side of the argument you wish to prove. You and I could go back and forth for hours, reviewing tons of material from CNN, FOX, et al, and still come up in the same place.

In the case of the Gore '04 example I will say a few things (only as a point of example as to how the facts can be 'spun' by an extremeist like Franken or Limbaugh - in this case, in counter point to your arguments) ...

As I stated in my earlier post, I believe the Democrats to have been puposely running a losing campaign for purposes of looking forward to the '08 election. Thus, they would have a vested interest in sinking anything supportive by Mr. Gore or anyone else. Another possible 'spin' is that Gore is a loser. he lost (fairly or unfairly) the '00 election which makes him political poison - much like Bush 41 after his '92 defeat - much like Kerry now. So, for purposes of SUPPORTING a democratic platform, they would want to distance themselves from such a person. That sort of thing is QUITE common in politics.

Back to Mr. Franken and statistical data (i.e. number of times this or that) ... We like to think of words as concrete entities. But they are not. In looking at the careful choice of words in how certain stories are reported the subliminal subtext can be quite plain, and one can easily see the differences on how a story is covered from one station to the next depending upon the bias of the news writers or reporters. This will also toos in a monkey wrench: My OWN biasis (or yours) will filter this information one way or another. You can actualy take just about any set of 'facts' and argue them one way or another ... or in multiple fashions like I have with the Gore '04 example above.

My point is this: The liberal agenda bends its facts. The conservative agenda bends its facts. Politicians from all sides bend their facts - the more established the political machine - the more bent they become.

I fyou thihnk one side is somehow 'fair' and the other side nothing but a pack of liars then we are doomed to continue the widening political acrimony that is plaguing our natuion and nothing will change.

I implore you - please stop voting for these a-holes --- be they democrat OR republican. I am with Mr. Eye (from his post above). Let us start electing political mavericks - ones who do not have the party machine dictating their lies and bending their facts so effectually.

lol, for me, it is not even so important which side a person believes/adheres to/trusts more than the other - only that we at least have a fair look at all sides ... and fairly point out where BOTH sides are lying!

LOL fergus, trust me, they say all kinds of things about me, which usually amuses me, and rarely cuts into my sleep, heh heh.

Both sides usually have enough wrong with them to send me down the road shaking my head, especially when it comes to politics. The quota of saints is low, very low.
