Hey Lance,
just so you know... Archie chose Veronica.
Very sad day for all us Betty's.

Archie was a fool. Every sensible man knows you Betties are where it's really at.

Does it have anything to do with England - like formerly in the King's employ, bastard sons of English barons, grew up in the same English village before moving to the USA?  Flew British Airways together and harassed the flight attendant as a group?

Boy, I got lucky again. I knew there was some formula in which pi and e had some special relationship with the square root of -1, but couldn't remember anything about it. I had to use google, right in the middle of my answer. Sort of thinking out loud, and it hit me.

OK, then. Four more.

Pardon, but I haven't read this thread before. Is the answer your questions ever anything dumb and obvious like "They all have three-syllable titles?"

No, but you've just given me a terrific idea for a Mike Myers screenplay. Will you have your agent call me in the morning?

not generally... In fact it's gotten to the point where people are putting up groups that you can't even get googly answers for!  Geography and math and such being the new topics ... sigh.

Actually, I think that sort of thing has been done before, but not in this case. That was awfully astute of you! Sometimes the wrong answers are even more entertaining and intellectually stimulating than the right ones.

Yeah, this one's not very googly, I'm afraid. Actually, it is reverse-googly, in the sense that I first looked up 4 things, and then... well, I can't say more without completely giving it away. And after all, I've already given at least 4 clues that I can recall....

My uncle thinks it's they were all arrested for public sodomy.

Ever wonder where I get it from?

How does your uncle know so much about people who practice... um... nah, never mind. None of my business.

I'm surprised there's nobody from the  Pacific Northwest online at the moment. Some of them could probably look right out their window and see what I'm talking about. Or they could in the daytime, anyway.

I never took you for such a... violent type before!

No; as far as I know, only 1 of these 4 men ever even saw the Pacific Northwest. But others who did journey there admired the other 3, and now, their names are remembered every day even by people who have no idea who some of the men were.

Well, I didn't go through all this drama just to make it that easy! You guys have more than enough to solve it now, even without going back to my last few posts and sluicing out the earlier clues....

they all manned boats that headed up or down rivers crossing Canadian borders?

(I don't even have a google map here, I'm just shooting buckshot hoping a pellet hits...)

No, but at the point it's about as googleable as it gets!

Panda, I love your clues as embedded in the ash of the wrong answers. <hehehehe>

I'm back from a great dinner.  And as I said, google gives the answer imediately.  Type in the four names and you see that they are all names of volcanoes as named by the Lewis & Clark expedition.
