Too broad too specific!  Yikes!

Ah well, perhaps someone else will get it and I won't have to come up with the next one.

First up in the hint parade...we're looking for a common profession, in a common "place," addressing a common topic.

WAG: Musicians, all in prison (hence a common "place"), all addressing .... I don't know..... prison food? LOL!  Seriously, all addressing love lost due to their crimes?

After reading each bio on wikipedia (thanks, google!)  I come up with the following:  All are authors; the "same place" is the New Yorker Magazine; and all are known for the style of writing called literary non-fiction (aka literary journalism) which is basically relating the macro after experiencing the micro..... particularly with respect to occupations.  Kitchen worker, basketball scout, are two that come to mind.

Off to make/find a quartet...... aargh! I need to not play this addictive game so much.....

Well, yes and no...

They are all authors, and they've all written for The New Yorker--which publishes literary nonfiction, so of course, they write it.

They've all written about the same topic area, though. Can you identify the common subject?

[They write about all sorts of stuff; this one is where they overlap.]
