I feel kinda silly ,I thought the collar was a symbol of love,much like a ring,however someone said o no the Master actually leads you around with it , well who wants that? Not me ....

There are many different meanings to collars, what's important is what it means to you and the one who you bestow it upon or who bestows it on you.

The collar means whatever to the people who are together.

To some it's like marriage, ownership,part of their scene, spirtual etc etc it all depends on the persons who are together.

It is something that you might need to discuss with a Dom/Domme as it's all subjective and there's no right or wrong, but different people :)

as everyone has said, a physical collar means different things to different people. the collar that i wear is a symbol of ownership, that i am someone's property. but it also has its practical uses, like being led or walked when a leash is attached.

For us it is a bond greater than a wedding ring.  As marriage vows mean less and less each year.  A collar is indeed a bond until death.

We also have a play collar he does lead me around by.  For play only though....the regular collar is tasteful and you can wear it absolutely anywhere.  Nobody beyond us knows what it is for.

But, to answer your question, its a symbol of commitment to me...not necessarily love.

For us it is a symbol of the commitment to the relationship and for me it is very comforting when he attaches a leash to it.  I feel constantly connected to him and I love that feeling.

I want that.

To me a collar is lot like a ring. There many different styles, many different price levels, and many different purposes to a ring. The ring I buy to wear because it's beautiful is a lot like my play collar. It's there to have fun with, just I enjoy looking at my ring and the joy I get from my play collar is having my dominant tug at it and tie me to the bed.

However, there is also the wedding ring type collar. The one that is given to you by your dominant to symbolize his desire to keep and protect you, along with your desire to serve and please him. I hope to wear my dominant's collar someday, but we will simply have to see. In the meantime, just as I wear a ring on my left hand because it's beautiful, I will also adorn my neck with something pretty.

my collar (when i receive it) like my chain will symbolize my submission, love and lifelong commitment to my Daddy.

yes it may have a clip attached to for a leash and yes He might use it to lead me around like a pampered pet however this is the life i accepted when He chose me.

i will wear his collar proudly among my family and friends ...they might comment saying it's a nice neck decoration but only i would know it's true meaning in my life.

For me a collar is only an attachment point for bondage.

Relationshipwise I am either committed or I am not.  I don't have a huge need for symbols and don't need a ring, collar, or contract to know I belong with someone.

It used to symbolize ownership to me.  I've only had belts and choke collars around my neck, so a collar is now only a method of control for me.   It no longer represents anything beyond that.

To me a collar first signals the Ds dynamic -- when I see one I think Submissive, I never think masochist or bondage bottom for example.

Different collar then have different meanings.

For me, a training collar signals a training relationship.

For me, a slave collar signals ownership by an owner.

For U/us, His collar around my neck means more than the marriage vows themselves.  It means I belong to Him.  And there is nothing sweeter than when after dinner I go to the closet and pull His leash off the hook and kneel before Him with it in my hands, He clips it to my collar and holds the end while He relaxes on the couch watching tv and I lay on my mat beside Him.  If I'm lucky, He'll pull the leash and have me service Him or whip me with the end. [sm=whip.gif]     For U/us, the leash can be a very loving thing or an extremely erotic thing like when He snaps the leash on and yanks me to my feet and growls orders at me....hooo...I think I need a cold shower just thinking about it....[:D]
