If so, it will be while in the backroom, they're telling Bush, "We can SHUT OFF THE MONEY ALL TOGETHER, the Iraqi AUMF is invalid, and it will take ONE VOTE to turn off the spigot."

Unfortunately, there are not enough people willing to shut off the money altogether.

But the rules of parliamentary procedure guarantee that the Republicans can tie it up
endlessly until debate expires without a vote and the Capital Requisition kicks in and
the military gets the same money they had last year.

We would need 2/3 of all Congressmen to shut down a filibuster and force a vote, I am
dubious we have that many people who can (to use a Hobbit term) see through a brick
wall in time.

The Muslim council in question tries to take a civilized stance, one that may educate a few young 'uns as to a better use of religion, and people cry bullshit? It's almost as if people want Muslims to be terrorists.......because when they try not to be they still get stick.

Philo,
Much credit is given to any whisper in the wood from the Islamic community. As it should. Anything so rare is valuable. Why isn't the same consideration made for pro-USA whispers? No good was and is done by the USA? Are the self-loathing Representatives the only voices of reason?

Does any US Corporation represent me? NO! But as an 'American' I am subject to that stereotype. Am I a member or believe in any religious denomination? NO - yet I am stereotyped and so called 'Christian' activity is used to argue against points about Islam activities. The difference, and its a BIG difference, is that as religious dogma and as American dogma there is no goal similar to Islam's "join us or die".

Show me an example of any Islamic group distancing or eliminating that basic Islamic dogma.

I found my own example. Saw this good news this morning.

quote:

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's most senior dissident cleric said President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's aggressive nuclear diplomacy had harmed the country, joining a chorus of criticism that has included even the hard-line leader's conservative allies.  The comments by Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, released Monday, reflected a growing feeling among many that Ahmadinejad has concentrated too much on fiery, anti-U.S. speeches and not enough on the economy. Montazeri, 85, is one of a few grand ayatollahs, the most senior theologians of the Shiite Muslim faith. Source:   http://www.breitbart.com/news/2007/01/22/D8MQC3S80.html

I find it interesting that the issue bringing opposition to the forefront is President Ahmadinejad's spending on the military versus quality of life issues for the citizens of Iran. Sound familiar? Pointing to "people are people" no matter what religion they were raised. Dissonance has a much greater potential consequence in Iran. It's takes a much braver person to speak out as Ayatollah Ali Montazeri has, or to support him, than it does here in the US or UK. At 85 he may not feel he needs to worry so much about consequences of his position, but it is significant that a recognized leader took this stance. I hope his example will motivate others to move away from the radical side of Islam. Both sides of the issue will be better served for it.

I was happy to find a news article contradicting my position. I hope to find more. It's much more effective than changing the dictionary or resorting to name calling the opposition or representative leaders.

Based on the total procedureal asswhipping Barney Frank gave Patrick McHenry 2 weeks ago, they better have some classes in parlimentary procedure before then.

I hate to be right.

Apparently, the Republicans are using parliamentary procedural rules to prevent the voting on a bill to cut funding for Monkeyboy's adventures in the desert.

I really detest it when I am right.

Don't you just hate it when somebody uses the standard you've set against you?  I just wonder of Joe Lieberman is healthy enough for all the blowjobs the Senate Leadership have to give him.

Which is why the mayor is a Republican? Oh, yeah, Guillani was one, too... And that last Governer Pataki... Yeah, if it wasn't the Dims' turn in Albany he'd still be there.

Is your letting Bush and others slide on their commission of crimes, namely Fraud in violation of 18 USC 371, just as bad as letting any other crime go unprosecuted?

Bloomy's a RINO and was elected as a liberal.

Pataki was interested in running for president, but his bloom has fallen off and has released his advisors and staff to support others. But he would have given a better run than Faso for gov against Eliot.

Well folks, it's time to start contacting our representatives offices and tell them:

"You are either for bringing the troops home safely TODAY, or you are for having them killed in Iraq TOMORROW, and EVERY DEAD TROOP TOMORROW is YOUR DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEAVING THEM THERE."

Fast Reply:

*laughs* FB, I do believe you're beginning to froth at the mouth.

It's not helping you any.

It always amuses me when people who lack an intellectual or learned argument in a debate tend to resort to attacking the opponent.

I guess they are not cursed with an awareness of how they appear to everybody else.

Two responses.

I wouldnt cross the street to urinate in Joe Leiberman's mouth if his teeth caught on fire.

Additionally, the first act of the Republican minority was to stand up and basically ask the Democratic majority to show them more respect than the Republican majority has shown the Democratic minority for the previous six years.

From reading your post, it sounds like you are angry with the Democrats for being too much like the Republicans have been.

Not funny enough to spit coffee on my keyboard, but I suppose it is humorous on some level.

That's why I'm an Independent.
Is anyone else in here as disgusted with the Dems and Repubs as I am?
Both of them are the reason this country is in such a mess.
Wed morning I'll be going down to the local VFW to see John Mc Cain and if I can talk to him for a minute or two I'll give him an ear full, being polite of course!

I see how this game is played...

And every Amercan killed by Islamic terrorists after we withdraw from Iraq is YOUR DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY, FOR NOT LETTING US FINISH THE JOB!!!

See it's fun to play the "either do it my way, or it's all your fault" game.

First rule of the Internet: Don't Take The Internet TOO Seriously.

Remember that old saw, "It Takes All Kinds"? Well, itt doesn't TAKE "All Kinds". We simply HAVE "All Kinds"..

My favorite is the following.

"It has been postulated that if you gave a billion monkeys a billion typewriters they would eventually write Hamlet.  The Internet proves this statement is false."

Evidently so, I got an invite in the mail last week from the V.F.W.
I'll let you know what he says and I assume that that POS Lindsey Graham will be with him.
