For those of you that are familiar with these personality profiles, can you make a correlation between a personality type and the role that we play in the BDSM lifestyle?

Which one are you, and does it affect how you conduct your lifestyle activities?

For instance, the ENTJ is the "Feild Marshall" and probably is a very strong Dominant, Alpha type.

I am INTJ, I think it's a rare one. Not sure how it correlates to being submissive.

I am in the rarest: INFJ. And, not only that, I am the rarest of INFJs: a scientist. The Function Type is Intuitive Thinker; the Intelligence Type is Mentor.

Katy: INTJ's comprise approximately 1% of the general population (acc. to a book I have on the M-Briggs test). That of course includes both sexes.

I am an INFJ, and this type supposedly comprises a little less than 1% of the population (both sexes included), so it is also rare, (although it's probably easier, from what I've read, to be an INFJ female than it is an INFJ male, due to how the type can conflict w/stereotypical gender expectations for a male, if they are INFJ.)

Both types (INTJ and INFJ) are often "mistunderstood" by others, but - I have hope since people do ask these kinds of Q's in threads like this one, which indicates to me, that people are aware of how personality can impact a realtionship to the point they are consulting skilled authors and experts about it.

I think these tests (particularly the M-B) can help "clue people, in" sometimes, as far as what makes someone "tick", and can be a good aid (especially if folks are having relationship "communication issues", maybe).

But - I don't think the tests are the be-all, end-all final word, as far as whether a relationship is going to succeed. There are obviously other factors involved (like how hard someone will work at it, and other things, IMO).

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest
Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel.

Katy: Yes. INTJ's are viewed (if female) sometimes as "too analytical" by folks who just love gender stereotyping other folks, as far as "expectations". This is unfortunate, IMO, since INTJ females I've known are usually as sharp as tacks mentally, and have tons to offer, as friends, and as partners.

INFJ's (my type) can be sometimes viewed as "wimpy" or "too sensitive" (especially if a male, unless they are in a profession like counselling or in the clergy, or something). The view seems to be they should all herd off somewhere, and be professional poets, or something.

However, and INFJ can really get into a good debate (and win, and galvanize public support) if they really get riled up about some issue (fair housing laws for poor, anti-nuke demos, etc) due to their sometimes very fervent belief there is much at stake, (usually for someone else, sometimes for themselves as well). But usually, they are fairly "mild mannered."

I am actually (I've taken the M-B test 3 times) sometimes on the "borderline" between T (thinking) and F (feeling), as far as "preference of relating to other people" are concerned, so I can appear sometimes to be very "analytical", but much of the time, my "heart rules my head".

*As far as being submissive, I'd say it's a great type, (introverted, service-oriented, typically "feminine") - except that I am not a "typical" INFJ. To many folks, I appear to be an Extrovert (and can act like one, in self-defense, even though I am not).

*I am also on the borderline between T and F, so can be a very good "debater" (and some might read this as "argumentative" in a bad way, under the right circumstances). Especially if they're not particularly committed to fair, even-handed communication. But -your basic INFJ actually wants "peace at any price" and really values harmony in the home (and elsewhere, too).

And an INFJ can "turn on the tears" at the drop of a hat (which I suppose could really bother some Dominants, even if it is a sincere reaction.)

I'm INTP. Don't know how rare it is, but the description I read was very accurate. My sign(Libra) is completely off, but that nails me on the head. Hocuspokus 0 science 1?

I'm an ENTP, and find my creativity helps me in scenes quite a bit. I love figuring out how to put people in predicament bondage.

But, it also means that I have a very hard time finding a suitable partner...I'm extremely picky and can be unintentionally callous and harshly critical. I try my best to be self-aware, but I sometimes miss out on the sensibilities of others...

I've noticed the "J" part of my personality sometimes can put me at odds with a "P", at times, if they are a prospective partner.

As a "J" type (organized), I tend to want to know just what "the rules" are, and if some activity, event, or task for me (or us) to do is being discussed, I want to know when, where, what, etc, ASAP (if possible). I want to "get it right."

The "P" folks "go with the flow" a lot more, and just don't see "not organizing everything to the last detail" as a crime, and sometimes think I should just "loosen up" about it all. My contention is that if I am a submissive, and trying to do my best, it's not "fair" sometimes, if someone just prefers to leave much stuff "open-ended" (as in, "we'll get there someday, discuss is sometime", and then not say when, or have a distinct "plan" for some future activity, or topic of discussion that I (or either of us) may see as a big issue, for instance).

In theory, I realize it is just their personality, but in a relationship, I have to remind myself they are not doing it on purpose, or trying to manipulate me, sometimes (because they're not, usually, although it can be sometimes hard to tell. Which is neither here nor there, if they are the Dominant, I guess).

Ditto. I take the test every year or so and depending on where my head is at the time, I either come out as INTJ or INFJ.
