zindyslave -> Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 11:41:00 AM)

I have noticed lately that things that  have not made me nausous before have started to make me gag....And I am really sensitive emotionally but that could be attributed to stress. I just wonder why things that never made me gag before are doing so now....This happened like overnight..If you have any thoughts about it please let me know.

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 11:42:42 AM)

are you pregnant?

ownedkitten -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 11:43:14 AM)

Greetings zindyslave,
Greetings all,

I would suggest a pregnancy test first off - my roommate started gagging at everything from the smell of her perfume to trying to brush her teeth when she got pregnant.  Just my first thought.   However, I would definately get to a doctor if it doesn't ease up soon.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 11:46:51 AM)

Well, I am definately going to take a preganancy test just wondering if there was anything else that could cause it, usually it is old food that I saved and forgot about that makes me sick or even leftovers that I go to heat up the next day that makes me gag.

onestandingstill -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 11:51:48 AM)

With me it's just some days my gag reflex is more sensitive than others.
I'd say at least 5 days a month I gag when I brush my tongue (when brushing my teeth), and the rest of the month I could deep throat the dang tooth brush.
Hormones have something to do with it I think.

Well, I would think that but I have been this way everyday for about a month now and I didn't really think anything of it until recently I have started crying over little things, like Master looking at me wrong or saying something jokingly that just hurt my feelings which never did before but I have been understress and stuff but I don't know they could be related then again it could be separate.

SunNMoon -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 12:01:13 PM)

Hi Zindy,

I would check to see if you’re pregnant since that popped into my head too. Also if you’re on any meds, see if being nauseous is a side effect. How long has this been going on? If it’s been more then a week or so, I doubt that its food related since it should be out of your system by now. I’d call the doctor just to make sure its nothing serious.

I’ve had days when I’m nauseous but they don’t last very long. Hope you feel better soon.

Kat

edited to add, I'd go ahead and call the doc it's been a month. Best to make sure everythings ok. hugs

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 12:07:13 PM)

Well the only new meds I am on is one for insulin resistance and nausea isn't a side effect so I highly doubt it is that. As for going to the doc anytime soon I currently have a cold that I just came down with and usually if I go in with a cold that is all they are worried about.

GrizzlyBear -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 12:14:29 PM)

First guess, preggers.   Go get the test kit, do it today.  See a doctor
Second guess, ulcer.  If it is, an antacid, esp. Pepto, will make it feel better temporarily.  See a doctor.
Third guess, what meds are you on?  Ask your pharmacist if it could be them, its his job and its free.
This has gone on too long to hope that it will go away by itself.
See a doctor.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 12:44:12 PM)

Well I am on prevacid for gastric reflux so probably not an ulcer. Can't do the preggers test until tommorow no money today but will tommorow. I am on a med for insulin resistance, and a med for bi polar plus the prevacid and ibuprofen for pain. Well, when I get time off from work I will go to the doc but I can't keep missing work for health problems could just be my body being wacky. I also heard it takes a few months before you get sick when you are pregnant if that is true then that probably isn't it. The reason I didn't really think pregnant is because my periods are always irregular and I have no way of telling if I am or not but these symptoms confuse me.

DommeChains -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 1:09:44 PM)

I will jump on the bandwagon of checking for pregnancy too.  However, I take NSAIDS like Aleve and ibuprofen daily for arthritis.  Even though you are on Prevacid which should help prevent gastric upset from the ibuprofen you can still  get gastric irritation from ibuprofen.  That upset will usually show up as gagging or nausea which comes and goes.  Or your reflux could be acting up....or both.

Don't get me wrong.  The NSAIDS like Aleve & ibuprofen are wonderful drugs for relieving pain and inflammation but, over time, they do irritate the stomach lining.  And reflux can worsen even when you are taking a medication for it.  Just curious does your doctor know you are taking ibuprofen?  I ask because as a rule if someone has reflux or an easily irritated stomach most medical folks advise avoiding the NSAIDS if possible.

My personal rule of thumb is this: if some physical or emotional issue persists for more than 2 weeks then it needs to be assessed by a professional.  Our bodies have their own wisdom and a recurrent, persistant problem is your body communicating to you something is not right.

Well, yes my doctor knows I am taking it, the reason I take it is for my feet since I am on them all day and also back pain and period pains when I have them. My doctors office won't give me anything that is addictive or stronger because of my age and they don't for anyone. The crying could be stress as I have said but I have never had this symptom from stress before so it is unsettling. Well, I haven't got heartburn lately so I don't think it is gastric reflux basically after I eat the flap doens't close so usually it bothers me at night if at all. But I do know I need to get the test for prenancy esspecially since I am on bi-polar meds.

phoenixinchains -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 2:43:38 PM)

do Y/you have frequent contact with other women? chemicals in chicks can 'sync together (like how sisters tend to flow at the same time) . if Y/you're not pregnant, it's possible that mood swings and other symtoms could be the reseult of another woman affecting Y/your bod', or sympathy on Y/your part to the other chica. and normal premenstral symtoms can change over time. morning sickness, sencitivity to smells, unreasonable food cravings, and of course, being very emotional, can be normal for any woman just before the cycle starts. i know it's weird, but hope this can help-        Phoenix

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 2:55:01 PM)

Well, working in retail I come in contact with alot of people hence the reason I have a cold now. But usually the only time I become regular being influnced by other women is after being around them everyday for hours, and for months but being irregular is how I have always been which is why I didn't think pregnancy. The main reason I think it is stress is because the first time I was crying was thinking about going to work and I have only been emotional for a week or so. Not as long as I have been nauseous.

I have been on my meds for like 2 months now and haven't had this problem except the first few days and then it cleared up.

I'd get a preg test.  I knew a week before I missed a period that I was pregnant just by my aversion to certain foods and my cravings for really rare red meat.  Also...I couldn't brush my teeth without gagging.  If you are irregular then there is just as large, if not larger, chance of being preg than if your cycles are regular.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/26/2007 3:48:42 PM)

Well, from what I have heard it can be harder for women with irregular cycles to get pregnant because sometimes they don't always ovulate. But by the same token women with irregular cycles can ovulate without having a period making it easier to get pregnant so their are a lot of uncertainies in that situation.

Zindy,
Sounds like you are trying to convince everyone (including yourself) that you can't be pregnant.  "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"
I, like Aileen, knew very soon after conception I was pregnant. (A week or so I believe, if that).  I can honestly say I never get nauseated to the point of throwing up but one Friday night, out of the blue, there I went.  I have always had irregular periods.  Also, all symptoms don't appear at once.  You can be nauseated first and weeks later get emotional (or vice- versa, or neither).
You really should stop debating each point as it is given to you and just take it into consideration.

First off hun...your health is more important than work. If you get too sick, you can't work. So go see the doc.
Second, the time it takes for one to get sick during pregnacy differs for people. You can get sick almost immediately,  it can wait till your along the 4-5 month period or you may never get sick, but since you re that's not the case. I would stop trying to deny being pregnat and get check. Once you know for sure you can let everyone know. :)

Either way..hope ya feel better soon.
