Time I posted a topic, but firstly, what a neat community !
I looked about here a while ago when it was still an embryo and just back to see all of this !
Its near impossible to find a sensible place for some brain food, and the Dominas here are especially good to read, great topics, and interesting gents.

COLLARS.
Ok..important to some, not at all to others, only in realtime, only at playtime, in session, costume..or shuffled out like cards at a poker game including online.
A collar is a symbol of ownership, so how important is it to have one or give one ?
I have levels of collars. My 24/7 slave has his chain welded on (done nicely by a jeweller), pets and subs wear a chain with a D on it, a lighter one for the training or protection collar.

I dont give them out like sweeties.. they are earnt.
The 7yo slave has done the miles..the sub has done what was required, the pets are aspiring. I have once protection collared a female while she looked for her Dom, it just meant she needed to check with me before play or meeting a new face, as she tended to want to please too much and had been unsafe, and was included in social times as my sub.

I have heard all the ownership truth discussions, true ownership cant be, the slavery/submissive attitude is carried inside..no collar makes the thing happen blah blah, but a collar is a brilliant way to mark an achievement for me and mine, and a thing to receive and wear with pride.
I always do a little ritual for the recieving of a collar, and watch with a smile as they just have to pass every mirror and take a look for a while.

I know some do a bracelet or a ring, a trip of leather, a locket. I also do body mods as marks of ME, but for now.. collars and their types.

So.. I would love to hear what others have experienced, and thanks for the coffee time here everyone !

i think that unless a collar has specific boundaries assigned such as protection i would understand a "sub/slave" collar to carry more weight than, and be more binding than a wedding band.

My last one was a nice chain where the link was cinched

LuckyAlbatross.. thanks, but the point is ?? Most of those links take us elsewhere..I did a search in this section and found no topic on collars apart from shock collars, and I want to hear from the P/people here, thanks anyway.

I used to use colors to give destinction to what kind of relationship we had: red was for a bottom, blue was for a submissive, black for a slave. This no longer has meaning for me, as I really am just looking for slaves (those that meet MY definition, of course). This doesn't mean that I don't have subs and bottoms as play partners, it simply means that I don't use collars for decoration or play anymore. If I collar someone, even if for just an evening, it's because I feel a calling to do so.

Anyway...back on topic. My girl is in a lifetime collar. This was after she submitted a formal petiton and I accepted it. While she would wear whatever I asked (and opinions be damned), out of respect for her husband (yes, he knows...very nice man, I like him a lot), I chose a daily collar that is a necklace. It's hardwired on and would have to be either carefully removed or cut off. jason wears a very similar collar, but the clasp is still used. Part of this is because he's in the miltary and I wanted it to be removable in case of emergency, without damage to it. The other part is that he has not formally petitioned and so I won't hardwire it on.

For formal occassions and while at home with me (as infrequent as that currently is), I have other collars for them. anne's is much more decorative. I had bought her a really nice amber pendant early on in the relationship. she asked that it be incorporated into her formal collar. I thought that was a nice idea, and agreed. jason's formal collar is a leather one, with some decorative touches. I like that I can slip my fingers underneath it and pull. While they both would have no problems wearing these out in general public if I chose, it really isn't important to me to shout who we are from the mountain top. Not everyone wants to know, nor should everyone know.

Funny thing...I've realized I wear a collar of sorts, too. Both anne and jason have a silver flame charm on their collars. I have a necklace that has the same charm that I wear on a daily basis (the chain is much longer than theirs). I see it as a symbol of my household...and of my commitment to my higher power to lead them as well as I can.

If I have any fetishes at all, it is seeing a collar on someone.

I do not give out my collars easily at all and having them on the person who has earned it is extremely important to me. That said I do realize that not every place is accepting of such things so I do not insist my slaves wear their collars to their mundane jobs or around their vanilla families though I would feel very blessed to have someone who could say "screw all of you" and wear one openly regardless of the fallout.

You said you wanted perspectives on collars- all of those are links to other threads and discussions about collars.

Why get only a dozen or so particular responses that happen to be on today, versus 2 dozen threads worth of responses over an extended time period?
