some of these things are at the heart of the issue:

"5 Reasons Liberals Aren’t Patriotic"

oh no comrades, still townhall!!

quote:

“While the rest of the country waves the flag of Americana, we understand we are not part of that. We don’t owe America anything – America owes us.” — Al Sharpton...

"The US is indeed a terrorist nation. ...It’s also the greatest purveyor of violence on earth over the past half century, and the foremost threat to world peace today." – Bill Ayers

“I hate to say it, but killing is our way. We began America with genocide, then built it with slaves. The shootings will continue. It’s who we are.” — Michael Moore

Liberals love America like O.J. loved Nicole. Like Andrea Yates loved her kids. Like the Manson family loved Sharon Tate. They cheer people who disrespect the flag, trash America at every opportunity and knowingly favor policies that hurt the country and make it weaker.

However, the $64,000 question is WHY do they do this? Why do surveys consistently show that liberals (admittedly with some exceptions) are much less patriotic than conservatives? Here are people living in the world’s only superpower. This is a rich, prosperous nation that is the envy of the planet; yet liberals trash America so much that you expect them to move elsewhere (if only). Of course, America’s success is a big part of the problem for liberals because you see….

1) Liberals Think Success Is De Facto Unjust: Liberals, being liberals, give each other a pass for just about anything because they believe that they’re on the side of the angels (if they believe in angels) by default, just by virtue of being liberal...

2) History Can Be Skewed: Most people are not students of history, but liberals are at a particular disadvantage because there are popular liberal authors who deliberately skew the history of the United States. Extremely popular lefty authors like Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn basically start with the presumption that the United States always does the wrong thing and is the cause of all evil in the world...

3) Conservatives Are Patriotic: Liberals can’t win a fight with logic; so they rely on controlling access to the mainstream media and convincing people that conservatives are so racist, so evil, so monstrous that people shouldn’t even listen to our arguments. One of the side effects of this is that liberals tend to have a knee jerk opposition to any and all things “conservative.” ...Liberals may not know a lot about the way that the world works, but they do know that if conservatives love to talk about how great America is and wave the flag, that’s not something they should be doing.

4) Liberals Draw Self-Esteem From Taking Positions That Make Them Appear More Sensitive Than other People: As Thomas Sowell has said, “The very commonness of common sense makes it unlikely to have any appeal to (liberals). How can they be wiser and nobler than everyone else while agreeing with everyone else?” Loving and supporting the greatest country in the world if you’re a U.S. citizen is so obviously common sense that it can’t possibly appeal to liberals. How do liberals feel good about themselves when they’re waving a flag like those NASCAR people? What, are they going to wear flag pins like those Tea Partiers? Inside every chest of every liberal is the heart of a Colin Kaepernick and if it weren’t for social pressure, few of them would ever rise for the national anthem. When you build an entire identity around falsely believing that you’re more sensitive, compassionate and wise than other people, you have to distinguish yourself from those you believe are your inferiors by virtue of not sharing your ideology.

5) Liberals Are Utopians...So, if you say, “America is one of the least racist countries in the world,” “The U.S. is the greatest country in the world,” or even, “The Constitution is the best founding document of any nation,” they can’t stand it because if things are pretty good and all we really need to do is get the government out of people’s way, there’s no need for liberals.

This is just another exercise in just how gullible and manipulable American voters are.

Trump can't do his agenda, can't pass anything, can't just be the dictator he envisioned. His poll numbers are only 40% even for the kindest polls.

But this? Rant and tweet and wave the flag? It's his strong suit . . . and the masses lick it up.

Does nothing, accomplishes nothing, proves nothing, changes nothing -- but everyone gets to thump chests and pretend they're proud Americans.

And especially -- find someone to blame! Liberals! Athletes! Owners! Doesn't matter -- just deflect from White House criticism.

We are a long, long, long way from Truman's "The buck stops here."

"Nuh-uh! Fake news! Alternate facts!"

Sad.

Does nothing? I disagree. It diverts attention from the reason anyone was protesting in the first place, taking ownership of the narrative by attacking their right to protest.

And forcing sports organizations to take a stance for or against, instead of letting them wait until it ever became an issue for them.

Do you know how Kaepernick came to the decision to #takeaknee?

Aug 14, 2016- Colin Kaepernick sits for the national anthem. No one notices.

Aug 20th, 2016- Colin again sits, and again, no one noticed.

Aug 26th, 2016- Colin sits and this time he is met with a level of vitriol unseen against an athlete.

Even the future President of the United States took shots at him while on the campaign trail. Colin went on to explain his protest had NOTHING to with the military, but he felt it hard to stand for a flag that didn't treat people of color fairly.

Then on on Aug 30th, 2016 Nate Boyer, a former Army Green Beret turned NFL long snapper, penned an open letter to Colin in the Army Times.

In it he expressed how Colin's sitting affected him.

Then a strange thing happened. Colin was able to do what most Americans to date have not...
He listened.

In his letter Mr. Boyer writes:
"I’m not judging you for standing up for what you believe in. It’s your inalienable right. What you are doing takes a lot of courage, and I’d be lying if I said I knew what it was like to walk around in your shoes. I’ve never had to deal with prejudice because of the color of my skin, and for me to say I can relate to what you’ve gone through is as ignorant as someone who’s never been in a combat zone telling me they understand what it’s like to go to war.

Even though my initial reaction to your protest was one of anger, I’m trying to listen to what you’re saying and why you’re doing it."

Mr. Boyer goes on to write "There are already plenty people fighting fire with fire, and it’s just not helping anyone or anything. So I’m just going to keep listening, with an open mind. I look forward to the day you're inspired to once again stand during our national anthem. I'll be standing right there next to you."

Empathy and understanding was shown by Mr. Boyer.........and Mr. Kaepernick reciprocated.

Colin invited Nate to San Diego where the two had a 90 minute discussion and Nate proposed Colin kneel instead of sit.

But why kneel? In a military funeral, after the flag is taken off the casket of the fallen military member, it is smartly folded 13 times and then presented to the parents, spouse or child of the fallen member by a fellow service member while KNEELING.

The two decided that kneeling for the flag would symbolize his reverence for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice while still allowing Colin to peacefully protest the injustices he saw.

Empathy, not zealotry under the guise of patriotism, is the only way meaningful discussion can be had.

Mr. Kaepernick listened to all of you that say he disrespects the military and extended an olive branch to find a peace.

When will America listen to him?

Dictating how their people can act, protest or otherwise... reminds me of why we had a civil war...

We had a civil war over employers dictating how their employees should act?

And someone, please, tell me how taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespecting anything.

If you're to stand for the National Anthem, taking a knee isn't standing. That can be, and is being, taken as disrespectful to the flag, the country, and the men and women who have fought and died, and/or risked their lives for that flag and what it stands for.

quote:

I read an interesting comparison between Kapaernick and Tebow and what the differences are between one kneeling and the other, and why one is OK and the other is not.
A lot has to do with color...

What article did you read? Will you link it to us here, please?

I did a quick search and came up with a lot of stuff that didn't really answer my one big question: Did Tebow kneel during the National Anthem? I know he'd kneel after a scoring drive, but I don't know if he knelt during the National Anthem. If he didn't, then race likely has nothing to do with this (although race and/or religion might have something to do with this one).

As far as I know he didn't do it during the anthem. But it did seem to get quite a few folks riled up.

Who was screaming then?
Musta been Clinton's fault.

You will bow to dear leader! You will sign the national song! You will wave his flag!

Or to the gulag with you for reconditioning.

Taking the knee is showing respect and not disrespectful. The Flag and the Constitution are sacred are the arguments paraded whilst conveniently overlooking the fact they are expressing freedom of speech. At least they have not taken up arms.

Yes it is a sign of respect, but in this case the players involved have made it pretty clear that they don't mean it as a sign of respect, but rather a protest against police brutality. Now in my opinion they have the right through freedom of speech to kneel if they want, unless they signed anything upon employment that says they won't. Just like others have the freedom to say they think the whole thing is stupid as hell and call them unpatriotic.

Actually the right winger's left us at "what you can do for your country"

And more directly like this week,.... I had just gotten done spending 5 hours replacing the fuel injectors, intake gaskets, and external electric fuel pump for a poor family and no sooner had I got on the freeway going home I got pulled over by a suburban cop who had followed Me for about half a mile.

I got the 3rd degree questioning - where I'd come from, where I lived, etc.... and ran My license, and even called My insurance company to make sure I had it on this particular car. (my classic musclecar is on it too.) and after half an hour sittin on the curb with people staring at Me as they went by, I got nothing but, "I saw you go by at the corner with all those tools and I wanted to make sure they weren't stolen."

handed Me My papers, and drove off.

"All that said,"

tell oh loud of mouth, what has any of u rightwingnuts done in the last year to benefit ur community with ur time? u know, actually "do for your country"?

Any of u teach a kid to read that wasn't related to u and u weren't paid to do it? any of u do so with a kid of a different race?

help feed the homeless? thanksgiving? Christmas? help hand out donated toys?

feed disaster victims? help them clean their homes?

when's the last time any of u volunteered for anything that wasn't political?

FR color me shocked but Dale Jr came out in support of protesters, referring to a King quote that points out when you take away all means of peaceful protest, all that's left is violence.

JFK, but close enough.

Then he added, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable — JFK.”

its a great thought, but its not totally apropos. the issue isn't the protest per se, its WHEN its occurring.

Oh, sorry, white guy. When would it be more convenient for you for schedule the black angst?

not when they are being paid to play football and stand during the national anthem.

and since they have peaceful recourse options outside their job description there is therefore no need to turn to violent protest and again---the quote is not apropos.

got that??

so piss off with your unwarranted snark.

first of all the players aint being paid shit for the national anthem, the league is. The players are paid by the individual teams & owners OF those teams, which is why rump thought incorrectly he had pull with them.

I DARE u to find anywhere in ANY sports contract ANYWHERE where its says they are getting any part of the payment the US military pays ANY of the US sports leagues for the tributes and recruitment displays.

and when ur done exhausting that futility, let Me know when u contribute to ur community like many of those player do to not only their home communities but also their adopted communities they play in.

AND most times they do that on their "day off" DURING the season. Do u do anything even remotely close to that on ur day off??

but oh shit, let these men have a beef with how some people in those communities are being treated and u want then to protest in a way that ur comfortable with right?

I understand u don't give a shit about the core reason they're protesting in the first place,

but maybe ur the one who should piss off since under those circumstances ur part of the problem they are protesting.

They are paid from team funds.
You won't find anything that says any of their pay comes from the tv contract,
or from the gate , or from any other source so your point is pointless.
Sounds good, as long as you don't think about it.

thank u for agreeing with me that the players are not employed by the league to stand for the national anthem, and therefore NOT part of their "job descriptions"

SO... its ur bitchin that's pointless. its still the owners money, not the leagues, so u are and now know u are,.... wrong.... period.

And in case u hadn't noticed most if not all the owners who donated to rumps campaign, and/or his lame underwhelming inauguration are against him blowing shit up their ass.

some like rump pal, Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones,.. Protested WITH his players, coaches and front office staff.

and thank u for confirming u care more about the means of protest than the reason for it.

ur problem is u don't think about it because again,... ur part OF the problem.

Their job is to do what is best for the league and their team, this is just the opposite.
You may think that I proved your point, but you need to reestablish your contact with reality.
By your logic they are not bound to follow any league rules and you know that is BS.
Last year why did Cowboy player need permission FROM THE LEAGUE to do a tribute for the 5 cops
murdered at the BLM rally. How can the league fine people for wearing 9/11 socks?
The league has that power on every issues but this?

actually they don't....or at least they don't feel the need to do so. The league can only fine them for violations, and even then that's only under the collective bargaining agreement of which the national anthem and its paid patriotism isn't anywhere on it.

notice nobody got even fined the whole weekend ....Hell, the steelers just did what all teams did before the national anthem and its paid patriotism years ago,...... stayed in the locker room, and take the field afterwards.

...... And while I don't remember what the player did for that cop tribute, but I'm sure if he knew then what he probably knows now, its possible he could of just did it without permission.

and the 9/11 socks? I'm guessing that IS covered in that collective bargaining agreement of what players can wear DURING THE ACTUAL GAME.

Ive seen players wear non-conforming items during pre-game warmups, but come out in approved wear at game time.

and lastly, if u had to deal with MY reality, u wouldn't have nearly the fucked up attitude on race relations u currently have.

one white American's take on the protest.

Kaepernick Didn't wear approved socks for his protest.

Oh hey remember when it was always the right-wing rednecks who were all about standing up and fighting for freedom?
I guess that they actually meant the freedoms that they personally choose for everyone.

And threatening to shoot the uppity democrat in the white house to protect America's freedoms, don't forget.

Where Democrats actually shoot Republican Congressmen. I remember you complaining that he wasn't a good
enough shot.

The fact that you disagree with someone doesn't make them a tyrant.

Remember that the next time somebody with a D after their name gets elected, then.

You do not understand the difference between knowing that the 2nd was passed in part to allow people
to fight tyranny, and advocating shooting anyone you disagree with. Conservatives believe in the former,
liberals think that means the latter.

NASCAR's lack of diversity is shameful.

Maybe they should use press gangs to get black drivers.
