heh, aylee, i'm one of those almost nursy type people. i've been doing the ice and heat pack. cd also recommends elevating - means i'm going to have to go back to bed. not a bad thing normally, but i'm trying to finish a quilt. (which i CAN do while sitting).

when the kidlet gets back home later today, i'm going to send her off to get an anti-infl cream and see if we can find my ace bandages so at least it'll have some support while i catch taxi's, planes and trains tomorrow.

sigh. if this had happened last week, no problem. this weekend. problem.

thanks for the advice aylee and asher. phil - not so much!

Cool!  I was hoping that one would be around to give better clarification on the info that I was giving.  And I am not afraid to admit that I do NOT know it all.

As the mother of a 20 year old young man with ADD and a younger brother who has PDD (a form of autism) and ADHD, I can tell you that the thoughts of their acting out or being unable to control themselves being a result of lack of discipline and poor parenting are alive and well, thank you very much. I can't tell how many times monster #3 had a meltdown or was bouncing all over and I was told to my face that I needed to discipline them more or get MY act together. For some odd reason, I got to be a Mistress of the Snarky Comeback for those assholes. Especially since they were the same people who would scream "child abuse" if I actually disciplined the monsters.

Not to mention that this 'discipline' wouldn't work. Oh yeah, the kid has a mental disorder that caused her to act five years younger than her age, and backhanding her is supposed to cure that? Any kid that acts several years younger than chronological age is 9 times out of 10 doing so because they can't help that.

It's easier if the kid has a physical disability. People see a white cane, a guide dog, a wheelchair, etc but they don't see mental disabilities. Mine didn't begin to make strides towards catching up emotionally until she was 17. She knew she didn't act like everyone else, she also knew she couldn't help it and she hated it. None of which changed anything.

Exactly, Celeste. We started noticing in 3rd grade that the youngest was quite the same as his friends and you could literally see the other children growing and maturing emotionally AND physically. With Monster #3, I could see him physically maturing but not emotionally. His physical age kept progressing but mentally he was stuck around age 9 or 10. He'll be 17 this year and has made tremendous improvements but he has had almost daily therapy for years.

It's not always about discipline or crappy parenting though admittedly some times it is.

Ah-Hem................................................ YOURSELF!

You could have corrected or at least cleared up the medical info I was handing out since YOU weren't around!

*dayum. . . I thought that using the terms silly, nurse, and infect all in the same sentance was pretty funny.

Thorny, do you like the Kindle? I've checked them out but I'm afraid to invest in one if they don't have a lot of books in the genre that I like, sci-fi/fantasy. Plus, I'm admittedly old-fashioned and like something in my hands.
