themask -> Healthiest/least painful way to shave innerthigh/mound area? (7/21/2007 5:24:39 AM)

I have heard different advice on this, some of which I tried to do, but found it didn't work, and some people tell me it's unhealthy to shave your inner thigh and mound area.
So...if you can spare me some of your valuable time, what is the best way in your opinion to shave that area between your thigh and the mound, that always seems to get red bumps after, and hurts a lot if you shave to throughly?
Or is shaving even the best answer?

Thanks :)

*edit* If you know of another post thats gives me an answer, please link it and I'll go away....

I did a search on here of the word "shaving" and came up with 300 hits. There are lots of threads on the topic that have really good info. Happy reading!

I cant say there is one perfect answer..something work for one person that dont work for another. I get red bumps really really badly, just about no matter what I try...and Ive tried them all...from shaving to plucking to waxing on my own to going to a salon and having someone else wax me and Ive tried the hair removal creams. Ive shaved with soap, with gel and creams and oil and special "bikini area" shave lotions and gels. I still get bumps. The best thing I can tell you is try them all and see what works for you. I think generally, waxing is the best way, but it almost always takes going to someone else to get it done right and that costs money and involves going back frequently. Some people say if they wax for long enough, the hair is very fine and they dont have to do it often anymore, but I never had the money to go to the salon that often for that long and Im not talented enough to put my head between my legs and see what Im doing well enough to keep my skin streatched tight enough to rip the wax off well. If you shave, try different temps of water, hot seems to work best for me, and only shave in the direction of hair growth. Do it everyday, but each day only go over each area once, dont make multiple swipes with a razor on the same path. You dont get absolutly ALL of the hair, but enough that over time yer as bald as you really need to be.

Electric clippers/trimmers on the shortest setting can do wonders!  ;)

Hubby and I have both used Veet successfully around the genitals. The trick is: follow the instructions and always bath for 10 minutes afterwards. Showering is NOT enough as the cream is absorbed into the skin. A good soak prevents any "after burn." No prickles, no razor rash - unless you have the misfortune to be allergic - so do the patch test first as per the instructions!

shaving has never worked for me. I now swear by waxing, it's so worth the money. :)

Aveda makes a great body polish you can use after you've been waxed (my preferred method), or shaved.  It helps prevent the ingrowns and bumps.  Add their calming cleanser and it really works well!  Takes some care and time, but worth it.

i use plain ole Nair. If shave Y/you must, there is a little trick. Use a clear-drying solid deodorant stick over the area after you dry off. (pat dry, never rub) i was taught this trick by another dancer, and don't know where she learned it, but it works by reducing friction i think... hope this can help- phoenix

Personally, I prefer to get waxed.  After 3 times at the salon in a row, my hair growth is almost nonexistent.  When my hair does grow, it grows back in random hairs, instead of a big hairy mess.  After waxing, since your pores are open, and the heat of the wax makes them susceptable to infection (hence the bumps), I always come home right away and apply an ice pack on my waxed areas for as long as I can stand it.  The cold temperature will close the pores some, and less infections will arise.  I also bought the "Ingrown(zone)" cream from my salon, which works great, too.  Shaving really is a pain (both figuratively and literally)... so that's why I gave it up all together.  Plus... my piercings look so much prettier after a nice day at the spa... good call GDsLT. aveda is great for products and their salons do great waxes.
i picked up a great technique on swim team. never shave against the grain as you would your legs. only perpendicular or with the grain. and you'll avoid the bumps much better if you swab the skin with some alcohol and also clean your blade. the skin there has to be sealed up again and baby oil works very well. or if you end up with problems anyway go for a tube of bikini zone.
