If this influencing is not directly related to BDSM than I simply don't see it as being a limit/no limit issue. If I am influencing him as much as he influences me, than I don't see it as having anything do with the power dynamic.

I didn't say "as much". I didn't even provide you with an unqualified assurance that you are influencing him at all.

As for molding pertaining to the "No Limits" topic, we were discussing that in this thread when we were talking of Daddy and Prop.

Sure seemed relevant then

My mistake. I thought when you said

quote:

This will be opening up a new sub-topic for this thread: Molding.

you meant that is was a new sub-topic, not reviving an old topic already discussed on this thread.

The last time it was discussed was within the narrow confines of how it applied to Daddy and Prop.

I see this as a new sub-topic because "molding" is much more than what has been previously discussed.

a slave should have no limits.

Correction:  YOUR slave can have no limits.  That's fine if she chooses to enter into a relationship where she has no limits.  Please don't think you speak for this slave because you don't.  I doubt you speak for any others either.  Let's remember:  we don't get to decide such things for each other.  That's the height of arrogance, don't you think?  Please don't speak in "shoulds" as far as others' relationships.  It'll only inhibit communication on these boards...............luci

My own school of thought on this is that a speaker defines his audience in the manner in which he expresses himself.

That's possibly the best thing you've said on these boards, Bob.
This is exactly what I mean when I refer to "the target audience" of my posts.
There are two transceivers, a medium, a message, an intent, some sidebands; that's it.
Errors can happen in any of those, but the bottom line is that not everyone is the audience.

You've both lost me, however. Any chance you've lost each other as well and should go back to square one to find out what each of you were getting at? It'd give me a good chance to catch up with it, as well.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Gack! Go through it again?

How about you start where I introduced the sub-topic of "molding" and ask your questions as they arise?

Oh yes.

(humble bow)

Thanks for the compliment.

luci,
Have i told you lately that you're my hero?  You're so good at saying exactly what i'm thinking and feeling.  Thank you for keeping it real and simple and direct.  Hopefully, the message will get through, eventually.

BTW:  Love Patti Smith and "Because the Night" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Awww, shucks.  Thanks, Joy.  I've said the same to you before.  And yeah, Patti Smith is great.  "Rock and Roll Nigger" is one of the greatest songs ever................luci

Such was the humble suggestion.

quote:

Nah, you see, I have a specific idea of what molding is, and how it meshes with life, D/s and everything. Or, for me, I do. And that is pretty much all I need. We agree on many things, Bob, but we have rather different things in mind for our respective property and partners in passion. So going back to reread and ask questions will do me little good at this junction.

My reason for asking the question was quite simple...

When reading the AquaticSub-vs-Bobgkin exchange, my communication meter started falling toward zero, while my content meter dropped slightly slower. I think the difference would disappear in a vacuum, but that experiment has already been done ages ago, and resulted in some cool scientific advances, if memory serves... Now, it may be the two of you don't want to communicate, which would be consistent with my measurements.

But in the interest of WIITWIDific method, it might be interesting to see the director's cut, no?

I will do my best to synopsize my position, and will leave it to Aquatic to repeat/expand her position (if she so chooses).

"Molding" in the widest context, is about shaping the behaviour/personality of the sub/slave.

On its own it has no moral value: it can be beneficial or malicious.

While it can be done without cooperation (keyword "brainwashing" for a google search) I've limited myself to discussing "molding" within a consensual bdsm relationship where the sub/slave has agreed to the modifications (specifically or in general principle). Within such a context it is my position that molding only occurs when all involved cooperate with the process.

As I said, "molding" has a neutral moral value. It goes by many labels, most of which do have a moral value: growth, learning, stretching limits, attitude adjustment, behaviour modification, personality modification are all labels synonymous with "molding".

I believe that is about as far as I got in my discussion with Aquatic on this sub-topic.

Translation: You're most welcome, O lord domiguru.

Friendly joke, since I think I saw domi around. Thought I'd set him up, but then he didn't deliver.

I'd move on to VR10, Rafe, but I'm trying hard to hold on to my view that blocks are unproductive.

Besides, the thread was done ages ago.

Enjoy the silence.

Okay, let me add the pragmatic cliff notes, then, as pertaining only to what is relevant to me:

I am concerned with the would-be slave having an understanding of the condition of abject slavery, am willing to extend easements that do not conflict with what I want to do. Beyond that, I have no particular restraint in terms of how far I would go, although I'd want to avoid being locked up in prison for more than a couple of weeks, and would want to maintain maximum utility value along the way. I read something very different into that word than the word submissive, even "hard-core" submissive.

Let's see if that provides you with your miracle, Bob.

If so, PM me for the Hitherto Undecided Number of Commandments.

Health,
al-Aswad.

P.S.: Hope you liked some of the initial speculation i PMed you earlier regarding faith.

I won't bore you with my lengthy list of excuses ...

Not a day goes by where I fail to remember my committment.

Tomorrow is a big day, one of the last chances my friend and I will have to fish his lake for the season (and this is the height of muskie season: think fresh-water barracudas).

But Sunday looks good and I'll be sure to address that then.

Err.. no. Reread.

It was a cliff notes version of my views on the entirety of the topic of the thread, from a practical angle.

Jeez, Bob, I'm not the local librarian, and you don't have any overdue books of mine.

Yep. I'm aware of all of that.

I still hate seeing a committment of mine languishing because I haven't made the time to address it.

You are relieved of the commitment, as far as I am concerned, Bob.

Seriously, don't worry about it.
