A heating pad, Advil, a big cup of coffee (or anything warm and caffeinated) followed by a big glass of wine usually helps me.  Orgasms help, too, but I've found that it's really vaginal stimulation that helps me.  Clitoral stimulation alone doesn't work as well.  Has anyone else found that to be the case for them?

shysub0951 -> RE: menstrual cramps (3/4/2008 11:50:30 AM)

Because i don't take anything like advil or the like, i tend to take a really hot steaming bath to relax the muscles, than lay on the couch and just relax and try to not do any real streanous *sp?* stretching.

Checked your profile so to get an idea of your  age, have you noted that bleeding has become heavier, menstrual cycles lasting longer  and cramps worse ?  Probably would be a good idea to go to a gynacologist and tell them about changes and maybe ask for an ultrasound of the uterus, could possibly be as a result of a benign tumor that develops in the unterus wall, there can be a couple of medical options that can be done to help alleviate

maybe i'm alone, but orgasms are always followed by horrible cramps under my moon. maybe, it's the endo. oh, but it's worth the pain. my secret weapon  on cramps is gas-x. taking the pressure off your womb from the inside helps me a lot, when combined with a hot bath, and tiger balm on my back and between the navel and fur-line. pain killers don't really touch the pain anymore. i also take benadryl to take the edge off the menstal imsomnia.

try to get checked for endometriosis, fibroid tumors, or ovarian cysts. all these can cause nasty cramps especially if they seem to get wroste every month.

hope this helps-

Thank you.
I have been that route...and it did help.

I have always had a difficult time with cramps...they are better now with age.
Neither my mother, nor her mother had any experience with them.

My mother actually called me very early one morning to apologize...she had gone to the ER with terrible pain one night...and found out they were cramps...hers began at the start of menopause.
She had no idea.

It depends on how bad it is - some times a heat pad or hot water bottle some time gentle exercise, sometimes a hot both and sometimes pain killers and bed

Hot water bottle, Midol, and my Hitachi :D

BBWnNC72 -> RE: menstrual cramps (6/3/2008 2:59:03 PM)

i have only had cramps that i couldn't deal with maybe twice in my life.  The ones i get now are nothing, just a little upset.
i remember my cousin getting them so bad every month that she would be curled in a ball on her bed crying for days.

What i do get are the most horrific back aches and mood swings that make everyone cringe to be around me, i am talking about crying, bitchiness, and paranoia. The back aches started when i fractured my back 10 years ago, the moods started when i had my first period after my first child.
Almost nothing aleviates the pain. i do take ibuprofen and hot showers, Vicodien when i have it, but nothing helps as much as it should.  When i could afford it, i went to the accupuncturist, WOW, that was the only thing that treated my whole PSM, from the swelling, moods, and back ache.  Wish i could afford it again.

My sub/hubbys tongue works good for Me. I always have mind blowing orgasms and that the only thing I found thats foolproof. Anything else just dulls the cramps.

camille65 -> RE: menstrual cramps (6/3/2008 4:02:59 PM)

Heating pads, chocolate, tea with lots of honey. (Yes I go through sugar cravings lol). Quietness. Disappearing into a  book for a couple of days helps.Oddly I don't take any sort of medication or herbs. Okay one herb but thats the illegal one. My cycle is whacked and cramps are often the only way I know my period is about to start. Once it starts then whoooboy that first day is usually a doozy.

That works for me.  But, it would also help if there were some essential supplies included.  You know, the chocolate bars, heating pad (or hot water bottle), ibuprofen, a big comfy pillow to hug, blanket, and some tearjerker movies to watch.

Sir will sometimes share a cone with me when my cramps and headache are bad.  It usually makes me sleep which does help [;)]  I have the first day troubles as well [&o]

I take a huge painkiller,turn on the air conditioner and the fan to make sure the cold air blows directly on me so that I can cuddle up under my big fuzzy blanket,go to bed,hug my body pillow, and either sleep all day or flip channels on the TV until I am bored enough to sleep. Anyone that wakes me takes their life in their own hands.

Hanable -> RE: menstrual cramps (6/3/2008 8:36:17 PM)

i eat a lot of ramen noodles when im on my cycle. which can be once a month to barely anything for several weeks.. u know.. jsut enough fluid to make u have to wear something. its really really annoying. salt, chocolate, hot baths, being left alone.. that usually helps.. i used to take naproxen.. but since i have no med insurance any more i cant get it... so yeah... im gonna have to start taking something for my back pain thou.. the cramps r just annoying.. preasure usually helps too.. pushing on my lower stomach. but the back pain needs something to help lessen it.

i have not been diagnosed with endo but i probably have it.. my mother says i probably do since she does. i sympathise with anyone else who has it.. its horrid.

H >:)

angelikaJ -> RE: menstrual cramps (6/4/2008 4:50:47 AM)

2 things re: naproxen
1 Alleve is one form of the drug
2 walmart has $4.00 generics...

windchymes -> RE: menstrual cramps (6/4/2008 5:50:30 AM)

There's an acupressure technique that a practitioner showed me years ago, and it surprisingly works, though it's no guarantee....

Hike your right ankle up onto your left knee.  Find that prominent inner ankle bone.  Lay the four fingers of your left hand beside it to measure the distance going up your leg.  Right at that spot, with one finger or a thumb, apply fairly intense pressure for one minute.  Release pressure for a minute, then apply pressure again for another minute.  Do this on both legs a couple of times, and the cramping should go away or at least diminish drastically.  If the cramps return, do it again.

Note, I said "FAIRLY intense pressure".  Don't press so hard that you bruise yourself, but hard enough so that you feel it.

This has worked for me, but I don't know if it will work for everyone.
