Got the idea for this from the War of the Worlds thread, and from just finishing up the latest James Lee Burke novel, The Tin Roof Blowdown, which would kick nine kinds of ass if done correctly.

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

Although I honestly think they'd end up having to do a six-part miniseries for each book... it'd still be fantastic to see it all up on the big screen.

Blood Music by Greg Bear
Illegal Aliens by Nick Polotto and Phil Phoglio
Girl Genius by Phil Phoglio
Spider Garden/Hydrophidian/In a Metal Web by Michael Manning
A Walk in the Sun by Geoffey A. Landis

(at least, these are the books "I" want to make into movies...)

Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy would be good if they could adapt it properly...the last Clancy book to hit the screen, Sum of All Fears was so far off the original story, it shouldn't have been allowed to have the same title.  Same goes for Starship Troopers and Battlefield Earth.

Silmarillion

I would LOVE to see The Master and Margerita (M. Bulgakov) made into a film. I've been waiting for such a film for twenty years (thought the book precedes my existence by a good forty years or so). It's a gorgeous novel, and with today's special effects it could be made into a beautiful movie.

I doubt it'll be done in my lifetime though :-( .

Fly Fishing by J.R. Hartley: In all honesty I can't recommend this book highly enough the characters evolve in a realistic heart wrenching way. I can't really give too much of the plot away but the twist at the end of it is incredible. They say there are no new stories well this one is new and should have been transferred to film many years ago. They'd probably ruin the subtle plot of this book however, if they did try to make a film of it.[8|]

I think that any of the Laurell Hamiliton books would be good...and of Course I would love to see the Beauty Series on film....

Out side that....The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub.

Pillars of the Earth (or have they done, already? I'm so far behind on movies... last theater release I saw was Hitchhikers Guide...)

me too.  since Kubrick is dead and nearly every other SK movie made from a book ends up awful, (for one reason or another) I'd be worried if it was a low budget one.

I'd love to see "The Stand" remade, with some of the parts that were so horribly miscast cast more appropriately, and without the "flat" quality it has now.

John Adams by David McCullough

the sad thing is, it could have been really great, they had some terrific people cast.

I think HBO is making a mini-series on this. An absolutely wonderful read, I agree.
