she never asked any one for anything.

Except for:

Sex
Pre-natal care
Medical Expenses for Delivery
Immunizations for her children
Well-child check-ups
Dr or ER visits when she or they were ill
Education for her children
Education for herself
Clean drinking water
Community policing
Community Fire Department
Infrastructure
Enforcement of Housing Codes

The list goes on, but I think that you can see the point.

part of me agrees with you on each point....however the other part of me, that knows a sweet young lady who didnt have much raising and hardy any skills except her cooking and cleaning and yeah, her body......and having been in the presence of this family and seeing them so happy, just to be together......feeling the love that came from the core of their being.....that part says there has to be a way to let her stay here.

yes she had too many children......she was raised in a large family and thats her "normal"

but she is a young woman with such a good spirit.......and i adore her.  if i didnt know her, id probably be up on the bandwagon saying off with her head.  but knowing this family has caused me to think more about how this entire "illegal alien" thing can ever be worked out in a good for all humankind way.

like i said its so complicated it gives me a headache sometimes.

Let's see. . .

Single parent.

EIGHT children.

Working as a hotel maid.

Nope.  I do NOT think that she paid taxes.  In fact, I bet that she recieved Earned Income Credit.

in all actuality she was probably paid under the table and therefore would have neither paid taxes, nor received an earned income credit.

it is likely the only tax she paid was the state sales tax.

I missed no part, Smithers :-) . Check out an other post of mine above, and you will read this for yourself.

Well then, kitty, you acknowledge that leaving her children is HER CHOICE. She's not being forced. She *can* take them, but won't.

As far as I'm concerned they're not U.S. Citizens.

By current standards of citizenship, they are.

Thankfully, popeye's standards don't apply to a lot of people currently on these boards... And they are US citizens.

It's a shame to hear that it makes sense to separate this mother from her children... and for what? To satiate a few self-satisfied citizens' thirst for blood.

I wish people would get a fucking clue instead of talking out of their arses.

Apparently you missed the part that said she can easily take her kids with her. No, that part is downplayed because people want them to stay here. Seems to me, if separation was such an issue, she'd just take them with her and make them mexican citizens.

you seemed to have missed the point that that piece of info was mentioned later in the thread
(thanks Cali) and not in the OP.
i wonder if it would cost less to make one person a citizen as opposed to 8?
do we really want the orphaned children of illegles here anyway? theyre just mexicans right?
excuse me while i got apply for my visa

i am unaware of it, as are the attorneys helping the foster parents of the 2 oldest girls, and it seems that all of the other lawyers and judges involved are unaware of it also.  the children stay here.......period.  this has been going on since december, and every avenue of reason has been tried.  that is why it is now in desperation mode, writing letters to editors etc.

It seems the desperation is NOT to take her children with her, but to let her stay here with them. Big difference. ICE's policy seems pretty clear on the subject. Or is something else going on? Has she been declared an unfit parent?

Cali

she has not been declared an unfit parent.  and she wont be.

She nor her children are immigrants. She is an illegal alien. She chose to have 8 children while being barely able to sustain a good life for all of them on her own. If she ever applied for a job, there is no way she could be unaware of her illegal alien status. We are paying for all of the families with the same story. We cannot afford to continue like this. It is awful that families get torn apart but we cannot let every story sway every decision, it simply is not feasible while trying to secure our borders. We have to secure our borders.

How's this for solving the problem, send everyone (all the illegals) home (sure it will cost Billions, demand most of our police forces and FBI for about 6 yrs and send the price of everything through the roof while costing a lot of additional jobs among any who supply the building or restaurant or hotel, or agriculture industries) and then we have a clean slate.

Next I propose we establish a LEGAL system, enforced by a state of the art national border fence (you say how's that gonna happen when 7 years after 9/11 we still haven't secured the ports? well, don't interrupt)...Okay, so we go back to a real LEGAL system of immigration like when my Great Grandparents or their parents came into this country. After all this is a nation of immigrants, but my ancestors came here legally (actually I don't know about the ones from Canada, might've just walked to Vermont).

Here's the way it used to work... You first had to make it to an immigration center like Ellis Island. Then you had to PROVE you could write your name or say one sentence in ENGLISH. Then NO ONE was allowed in unless they had $10 cash American money.  Only if you could pass all those tests were you allowed to enter the country legally. Later, if you felt like moving to the midwest, the government might give you 100 acres of land to get you started. We need to impose the same high standards that our ancestors met.

Now my proposal is to update this rigorous model to account for inflation. NO ONE would be allowed in the country unless they had $1,000 cash and could answer a call on a cell phone.  Then the government should only give every new immigrant 1/2 acre in a suburban development. That's how you make immigration fair and legal again.

Well, I don't feel that I'm in any position to judge a woman who came here as a very young child - she should have been given American nationality at eighteen.

I know how the US immigration service works: badly. Nobody here's a paragon of migratory virtue...

It's an incredible shame how readily people will crush the most vulnerable just to make themselves feel better. It's always somebody else's fault, isn't it?

Well, it is certainly not MY fault that she did not act in a responsible manner.

I can't believe that all her life, working shit jobs because she wasn't legal, that it never crossed her mind she wasn't here legally. I'm having difficulty believing that the "baby factory before citizenship" was a good idea.

And above all, I can't agree that this should be my problem. I did none of this to her. I didn't bring her here, I wasn't one of her "baby daddies," I wasn't responsible for any of it. Why are MY tax dollars going to give NINE PEOPLE free heatlh care and other amenities when it has, in fact, been 5 years since I've even "heard of" a dental visit, let alone seen one. I paid $200 for a doc-in-a-box to tell me I "didn't have strep throat and to get rest" when I was missing 6 days of work because I couldn't speak.

My (and our) tax dollars go to supporting nearly every facet of the illegal aliens' lives and I can't even afford a freakin' antibiotic prescription because I can't afford health insurance of my own and I don't qualify for free healthcare because I *am* a citizen.

I fully support LEGAL immigration. I think as a nation of immigrants, becoming culturally diverse is just plain nifty. But I want them here legally and paying taxes, not closing down hospitals in border towns due to bankruptcy, not forcing hard-working citizens to have to buy a whole new car when they are hit by an illegal alien (since lack of legality means a lack of legality in areas such as car insurance as well) and not living with every kind of assistance that our taxes pay for, when they pay NONE.

The only judgement I made was that it is awful for a family to be torn apart. Is it judgemental to say she had 8 children in a fiscally irresponsible way? That she is an illegal alien? That we as a country, cannot afford this to continue? That we have to secure our borders? That she knew she was an illegal alien?  What do all of you who rail against this suggest then? For every single family or individual here illegally that get busted, what should we do with all of the situations? It is not enough to scream and be emotional, solutions have to be found.

I didn't miss that at all. What it costs isn't the issue. I'd rather not reward a criminal. (And you can say she's not a criminal because she didn't choose to come here, but that's roughly like any other argument where you say "I didn't know that was against the law..." wherein you get told "ignorance of the law is no excuse.")

The fact is, she chose to remain, therefore she is at the very least an accomplice.

~FR~

for the record, there are black and white families that attend my school, who have 4, 5, 6, and 7 children, and they live off the system more than this lady ever thought to, many with the babies daddy there under the same roof.

i dont think they deserve a free ride on my back any more than margarita does.  i mean all they did was get born in the right place.

this is complicated shit.  its gonna take me another trip to the porch and a lot of time to figure out all the mixed emotions i have.

thanks for all the replies, good bad and ugly
