I have to apologize but not to you Knightofmists. I was originally responding to a different post by a woman who hurts herself because her master decided to join another family without asking  her. I posted my response to this thread mistakenly and have now edited it. It's obvious to me getting up at 5 am doesn't help me be clear about what I want to say and where.
The beginning of the post that you so graciously take issue with was meant for another thread "Help what do I do now"?.
But your welcome to go there and re post this on that thread if you think it applies.
If exercising authority is about absolute control and no consideration for something that is important to a submissive or a partner then I  would take issue with it and would not submit to it. This situation I personally feel is a different from an every day issue.

Being as it's a free(ish) country, people decide who to vote for based upon all sorts of irrational dumbass reasons.  Many people cast their votes based upon the opinions of their spouse or parents or coworkers, so I don't think it marks the end of the republic if a few slave girls vote the way Master says.

im sure thats true - meanwhile people continue to be made homeless, redundant and screwed over and you have to wonder dont you, that if maybe people actually did take the time to work out what they believed in and whether it was worth voting for, things might actually improve - but hey a few slave girls here, a spouse, parent, co-worker there - what does it matter, in fact, why bother voting atall, lets all go to the pub and get pissed.

This is one of those areas that the Dom struggles more with than the submissive, generally.

Because, if a submissive doesn't want to give up her vote, she won't. If she does, then the Dom can just cast her vote with his. However, there are potential problems if it's done that way; very important legal issues at stake, and a tremendous risk for them should the submissive ever decide to say to the wrong person that her 'Master made her vote for That Guy.'

However, if she says, 'My Master made me watch the Debates, be informed on the Issues, then I told him I'd vote however He Wanted' it's a lot less... shall we say... illegal.

Apologies for the capitals, I've been reading the Rubaiyyat by Omar Khayaam. And rewriting it, because though the language is beautiful the meter and rhyming is pissing me off. The way it capitalizes words is infectious. I'm probably going to post my version of it somewhere.

i see your point about letting off steam and i see your point about starting a topic for discussion, and it is a good one. The responses have been enlightening for me as well, being new to this sub stuff & all. Master and i don't discuss politics. He tells me his opinion and i murmmer questions that will give Him an opportunity to expound on His thoughts. He hasn't asked me about mine, and that's fine with me, cause i'm a Wal-Mart Mom and will decide when i hit the booth, lol.
i think it's nice that He wants You to watch and learn about the politics of Our country. It won't kill you to know something about it. It obvously interests Him, so like a lot of other stuff, just go with Him on it.
But, this caught my eye ...

If you are collared, then you should not be here asking advice from other Doms. Period.

You need to sort this out with your own Dom. If you want to keep his collar, you should not be whining about your Dom in public. You are putting your Dom up for criticism by those who have no business butting in to your relationship.

IMO, perhaps posting in the "Ask a submissive" would have been more prutent. If i'm not mistaken, one who is collared is a representative of The Owner, and needs to be mindful of what she does and more importantly, how she does it? i may be way off base here, cause i'm still learning, and that's how it is with U/us.  Your milage may vary.

At risk of being....  politically incorrect? or dense?  or something--  I wonder why the right to vote is somehow exceptional, versus all the other "basic human rights" that one might opt to forego when committing to be a slave.

Being submissive doesn't make you STUPID, so why would you have to vote the way someone else wants you to? This "master' is treating you like you are a moron!

I'd NEVER do anything like this to ANY submissive!

Seems to me because the word vote is included its a hot issue to some and whilst I personally wouldn't have a problem with a vote different to mine some obviously do.

Replace the word vote with some other task and it makes much more sense. He does not think you are capable of safely performing a task and has told you not to do it until further notice. However to help you become more adept and knowledgeable about the task you've also been instructed to watch/read/learn more. Its the very same thing we do with UM's, some professions, driving a car and numerous other things in life.

Even within the "lifestyle" how many people get told to read something and then go learn from somebody more experienced with some aspect of play? This to me is just a variation on that process albeit one where the danger is installing another George W for another four years (ok that might be a really scary thought granted).

Ummmmmm ... Because he told you to watch the speeches and debate??

You have no problem being told how to vote .. but you don't want to be told to watch the speeches and debates?

Okay.

The only person you can control in that regard is yourself.  People fought and died for the right to vote.  This also includes the right not to vote. I happen to believe that the electorate at large is ignorant and apathetic.  We get the government we deserve, it's our collective choice, but that is one individual choice at a time.  How I choose to cast my vote is my business, how other make that choice is theirs.  But I'm always willing to have a couple of drinks!

When He collared me, we discussed the voting issue. I agree that He has every right to tell me how to vote, He said He would be unlikely to, esp. in a national election (I think His words are 'where there isn't any real difference between one and the other, anyway), more likely to for a referendum, where we know in advace we will disagree.
Several weeks ago I asked him about that, in regard to the upcoming election. He said He was still undecided, but that, once decided, He would be telling me how to vote.
Okay, I'm fine with that. He knows who my chosen canadate would be, He is leaning strongly the other way.
My question is, if He is planning to tell me how to vote, why do I have to watch the speeches and debates that He keeps having me watch with Him?
Yes, I know you don't know the answer, and I know to ask Him, I am just blowing off a little steam (otherwise, my asking is not going to be as respectful as I might wish it to be), and, thought it would be interesting if other Dominants had views on the topic, as well.

Perhaps He wants you to watch them because in the end He will be telling you to vote for the candidate that you feel is best?  In stating to you that He will be telling you how to vote He may simply be "testing" you or mind fucking you. By having you watch the debates He is ensuring that you will have full knowledge of each candidate and a fully formed opinion on who is the best one in your mind.

While none of us can be sure of what His intentions are, it could simply be to educate and share.

Just my opinion,
velvetslave

this made me giggle because I remember once having the very special d-type person in my life telling me that he would have a say in how I voted and i gave him an "i don't think so"

Being very politically active that just put a bee in my bonnet......to think someone would want to tell me who to vote for....in the end I found it was a fun little game for him to see me get all huffy and puffy and politically mouthy.......

turns out he valued what I thought and  for the past year have been quizzed and asked about issues and all those things political to see how i viewed things and though he hints at who he thinks is better, i have become very good at using the "may I speak freely" part of our time together to really good at at least making him think :) even if he is pretending to think about what I've said

She willingly gave over her vote.

There are a lot of things various masters do that other masters do not - Spanking, slapping, water sports, etc.  So, you wouldn't receive and use your submissive's vote.  Her Master will.  Her arm is not being twisted.

tsaske, I spent Friday watching the debates with the man I'm seeing because he wanted to enjoy my company while watching them, and then discuss them with me.  Perhaps that's what your Master preferred, too.  In any case, I assume you got through it. :)

OP, because it's important to him that people be knowledgable about the government. People get the government they deserve. If they aren't informed or don't bother to vote, then don't be surprised if they wind up with bad government.

That's not true for all of us. For some of us, this comes across as insecurity, that he's so afraid his own choices and actions do not stand by themselves. He doesn't demand I vote the way he does or change religions. Nor does he think it matters if I disagree.

Someone has to lead; someone has to follow. As he is in the position of authority, you have a right of appeal but the final decision is his. Presumably he's not the type to defer to an executive committee acting as judge and jury in these matters. If it's a problem, the horse has bolted.

Reason suggests he wants you to be better informed. There's a spot of confusion surrounding knowledge and authority perhaps.

I don't know why, but I find this whole idea terribly sexy.

I wouldn't mind going with who he thought was the better candidate because I don't have a lot of confidence in myself when it comes to all this political mumbo jumbo.  I find it all very confusing.

Furthermore, I'd feel like his little object going and doing his bidding for him.  I find this very hot as if he were handing me my opinion whether I like it or not.

Watching the debates would bore me yes, but knowing I was sitting there by his requirement is actually quite a turn on.

Rock on, tsatske.

Um, correct me if i'm wrong, but your quote doesn't match my quote. i didn't mention anything about voting or insecurities or fear or agrement or disagreement. What i was talking about was being your partner's partner. Normally, i let stuff like that slide, but that just doesn't make any sense to me. So, beat me for trying to be a critical thinker  :)

'All the more reason for the OP and the like to make an informed choice; in the event the OP hasn't taken the time to understand that which is on offer, then her vote is meaningless at best and partly responsible for the current disillusionment with the democratic process at worst. You can exercise your stake in the nation only where you understand that which is being served up; otherwise, why bother?

I don't know what I'm more concerned about -- the fact that some people are giving their vote over to their "master" or the fact that some people are still undecided.  Sigh.

Ok.. So i thought quite a time about a reply... but all i can say that Americas future will affect ALOT of people... America is one of the most powerful countries in the world, so it IS other countries business how America runs its course.

See I'm open to all things.. All kinks... Everything people do int heir relationship... As long as it doesn't affect other people in a bad way that didn't consent to this... That means I even dread public exhibitionism... because not everyone wants to see people naked.
I dunno.. it's just... I can't get over the fact that it's really dishonest to the world and America to vote for someone you don't support. I'd say, Don't vote at all then. No one forces you to.. Except your dom, but Ultimately it's your choice.. I think that people shouldn't use their "I'm a dom"-card to get these things out of people. It just goes strictly against everything that I know and that I stand for...

Those are just my thoughts though, and everybody can disagree. i don't mean to make you seem like a bad person in anyway, it's not my intent. I just hope that my voice will be heard :(

Also, regarding the voting itself.. I don't even KNOW if it will make a difference.. I'm really paranoid about governments and big corporations. For some reason i I have this fear that it's actually some very evil cruel big corporations that put their money into this game, and the regular people's voices don't matter :(
