Update: I went to the ER as per direct orders LOL... and I had a nasty bug that was going around, but no apparent cardiac problems. The doctors did not test for menengitis, but most of my symptoms have resolved. It took some serious pain medications and a great deal of sleep to finally break its grip. Thank goodness I am feeling MUCH better! Thanks for all the advise, help, and entertaining company while I was going through all this.

Oh..... and I can hear a little better thanks!

I have had a ruptured eardrum and I can be sure it is not that. That hurt so bad I passed out when it happened. I know because the doctor had just seen me and noted one was ruptured, but the other wasn't though it would not be long. It ruptured before I could leave his office. No, this is just a lessening of the overall level of sound. It is not muffled, but just softer. There is no pain or other discomfort.
