Oh bullshit Steel, that link takes you to a ridiculously partisan opinion article.Nothing in there comes even close to an apology for America from President Obama.Hell the writer even asserts that it is President Obama's point of view that America has two era's the first a before Obama time ...the second everything that comes next...pure bullshit.

Hmmmmm I disagree.

I think the act of making Appologies for the Country is not something we have given the President the Right to do. I certainly do not think we need to appologise. I believe that something needed to be done and the Commander in Chief made a judgement call....... That was then Agreed to and Followed by the Government that has to approve it before anything happens. The President does not have the ability to make the call all by himself, that is why we have a cabinet and a congress.

That being said, Our Current President does not speak for everyone and because of that making an appology for the COUNTRY is something I take as being inappropriate for the president to do. He can Appologise for himself he has no right to appologise for me.

He has no right?

I thought his election gave him that right.

Bush didn't speak for me when he said you're either with us or against us, he didn't speak for me when we attacked Iraq, yet his election gave him the right to speak for the country as a whole.

Agreed. And there is ALOT of appologizing to do.

Ahhhh But the QUOTES, that is to say the words that Obama SAID do Check out.

Ignore the opinion of the writer and instead address what the President actually said.

What the President actually said is what you asked for, the Opinion of the Writer just happens to be one I agree with. The Facts Check out. just look them up.

Context is everything Steel...and there is nothing more there than a man who has decided not to linger over the past...and instead is trying to usher in a new era of cooperation with our neighbors...if that offends you or others...start figuring who you will have oppose him in 2012....because this is the tone ans tenor of the new Administration...whether or not you like it.
His remarks after Ortega spoke sound like someone trying to deflate a room after being subject to a long winded recitation of the many instances we have acted like bullies with our neighbors(are you denying American policy is to treat all of the America's as its own backyard?)What would you and other have had him do ...fashion his remarks into a point by point refutation of Ortega's...to what end...Not how I want my President to react.

Dick C. has been reduced to a political has-been. All he has left now is trash talking like a mean old man bitching at the kids to get off he lawn. He's had what, three coranaries? Let's hope the next one puts him out of our misery. Still, I hope he manages to hang on, to watch the world do a 180 from his way of thinking, and become a better place. I hate to say this about anyone... but the world WILL definitely be a better place when that old bastard is six feet under!

Actually, no, I don't. If you kill someone, they lose all chance of learning and becoming something more than they are. In the ex-VP's case, I don't think he's redeemable anymore... after all, he's been pulling this corrupt shit since he was working for Nixon...

He helped in covering up Watergate.
He had ties to the S&L scandal
He says he loves his lesbian daughter, but works his ass off to make sure she's a second class citizen...
He fucked over people with Enron.
He fucked over people with Halliburton.
He dragged us into a war with the wrong country.
He whiped out his dick and pissed down the throat of the the Constitution.
Warentless wiretapping.
Politiziation of the justice department
He lies (to this very day!) about WMD and Iraq being part of 9/11
Torture
His own personal death squad.

But, you're right. I'm sure he has a great singing voice in the pews when he goes to church every Sunday, and calls himself a good Christian.

No Election just appointed him as the Political Figurehead of the country.

Then what exactly do you think the Presidency is if not the political figurehead of the country?

quote:

And you may wanna look as how Congress works because Bush was not the one who cast the deciding vote on what where or who we attack. You give him too much credit. You have a Political Process the President cannot just up and decide you know what I'm gunna blow up France, it just doesn't work that way.

Yeah, unfortunately it does.  The President as Commander-in-Chief has the authority to order troops into action without the consent of Congress.

He doesn't have the authority to declare war, but Presidents have bypassed that for years.  I don't think we have had an actual declared war since WWII.

quote:

As to what Bush said when he said you are with us or against us, I am sure we could play with the semantics of that all day long, ultimatly what I heard was "We won't just stand by and watch, when threatened we will fight back" however whatever he meant you are correct he did not speak for the whole of the country.

You heard wrong.

CNN.com - 'You are either with us or against us' - November 6, 2001
Bush said he would not point out any specific countries in his speech.
"Over time it's going to be important for nations to know they will be held accountable for inactivity," he said. "You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror."

quote:

HOWEVER, Going to foreign countries and saying that we were wrong for what we did is a matter of opinion, and not one that is sharred by many in this country and as that no election did not give him that right to speak for me in fact if depending on how you read the responsibilities of the President he is supposed to maintain a pulse of the nation and even if his own beliefs differ from that of the majority he is supposed to represent the whole Country not just those who agree with the same things he does.

I don't know how many ways I can say this is total bullshit other than to say it is total bullshit.

When Bush had a 27% approval rating did he change his policies to conform to the "pulse of the nation"?
quote:

I do not believe America should appologise for what it has done. It went after what was believed to be a threat at the time, and not because one man thought so a majority of the congressional staff believed this as well.

I believe we did what any other country would have done considering the kind of threats we received, or do people already forget the many who died on 9/11?

I'm sorry, did I miss something here?

I don't recall Obama apologizing for going after terrorists.  In fact, I recall him saying our efforts should have been focused on Afghanistan all along, which provided safe harbor and training grounds for the terrorists.

Instead of a costly diversion into Iraq while those responsible for 9/11 are still free to spread more terror.

Why would you doubt that Obama would say something as anti-American as that.

You haven't noticed that he's busily  trotting around the globe, burning fossil fuels like there's no, uhm, tomorrow, and apologizing for all of us for being Americans?

Last sentence, there ya go.

Mr. Obama apologized for the actions of the United States for the last 45 years. He thanked Daniel Ortega for not blaming him for things that happened when he was 3 months old. Good grief.

I see, so the whole supplying of arms to Nicaraguan rebels during the Iran-Contra affair was ok with you.

Even though kindly uncle Ronnie was dealing with Iran to supply those arms.

But of course now Obama is a traitor for even thinking of engaging Iran in dialogue.

Way too funny!

The last sentence was meant to be a joke.  And I'm sure it was taken that way by everyone except those so desperate to find fault with the man that they will resort to twisting anything he says.

Of course it was meant to be a joke. Obama and his pals were all laughing and smiling, yucking it up and having a great time. After all, it was bash America day in Trinidad. If you had read the paragraphp just prior to the last, you would have seen that Obama had just been enjoying "...a blistering 50-minute speech that denounced capitalism and U.S. imperialism..."

And that's why he made that ever-so-clever, and hilariously funny joke!

You missed the joke? You failed to get the point? Okay, let me break it down a little further for ya, mike:

How many cute, fuzzy, lovable, innocent, poor little polar bears has Obama killed already, mike?

Think of the children!

He's destroying the planet...

quote:

As for your link, forget it I'm not looking at it tonight......parsing the Presidents words, and applying your dislike I am quite sure you found something objectionable...as equally sure it amounts to nothing.

You asked for the link, mike. There's the link. You insinuated that it didn't exist. It's true that most media outlets here in the United States refused to report it (how does it make you feel to realize that you're only getting half of the news - the left half?) but now that its proven he said it, what do you know. I go to bed then wake up and find that the goal posts have been moved...

Which, that's okay. Really. I would expect nothing less from this crowd...

I took it as cynicism, the last sentance, what would you have him do....a terminator scene where he takes out a gun and blaze away at all the crackpots and marxists? altho I know some here would love to see that.... and still bitch about him wasting tax payers money.
Theres a lot of fence building to be done, hes made a start and an effort, at this point you dont need more enemies. you cant nuke everyone off the map.... you start the protectionist and isolationism bullshit and the whole world is gonna be pissed off, and no one else but the Pres himself would appease the leaders, or even be taken seriously. because, OMG HE is the elected leader of the US , voted in. WHo else would they take seriously after the last years of Bush Family and Clinton.
Time willl tell if he makes a difference, but many overseas  and north and south of you are enjoying the new change.

Lucy
