Yes it is arbitray because your "solution" has no thought behind it. "Gun kill people! We have to keep guns out of the hands of certain individuals!" It is a knee jerk, feel good reaction.

I'd also like to keep guns out of the hands of certain individuals - I just to want to trample the rights of others to do so. The price is too high and the "solution" will not work anyway.

Heroin was deemed a problem so we banned heroin. Has that solution worked?

This from a man who just advocated allowing passengers to carry guns on flights.You have sold all credibility in defence of a rediculous assertion.

Oh lighten the fuck up already, will you? Jesus H. Christ! Do you seriously think I have a problem with security checks at airports? I know of nothing in the Constitution that says I have a right to fly on airplanes. It does, however say I have the right to keep and bear arms.

You just don't get it. This has nothing to do about guns. It's about wanting to restrict peoples rights in the belief that this will create a safer society. Once you agree to that, you have no basis to upon which claim any other rights. they are now all open to being legislated away in the name of safety. Keep trying to legislate that perfect society. I wish you luck on that.

This isn't to anyone in particular, just to the "usual suspects" in general...

The 2nd Amendment guarantees US citizens the right and the means to protect themselves against acts of violence. That some people elect not to exercise that right is a matter of personal choice, which I respect. However, when some of those who have elected to forego the exercise of that right end up dead as a consequence of their choice, the lesson to be learned is not that we'd all be safer if everybody was unprepared (or unable) to defend themselves.

Well, surprisingly, I have never felt the need to defend myself with firearms, even though I own firearms.

Which kind of makes me question whether some of the "usual suspects" watch too much TV.

In case there is a comprehension problem....what I said was your position concerning those rights was IMO foolish...not as you twisted it...that rights were foolish.Try again,perhaps next shot you will get closer.

No. I actually think you don't get it because you are so narrowly focused on one issue that you believe in you are refusing to see the broader picture.

Our rights are restricted on a daily basis.

How many cameras are trained on you every time you leave your house?

From the Wal-Mart to the red-light cameras we are under almost constant observation.

Yet, while I don't agree, most people find this an acceptable trade-off for safety.

So again, why are guns any different?

My posistion is that rights are good to have. If you regard that posistion as foolish... well then... where does that leave us? Personally, I regard those who would trade away their rights and freedoms for safety (or rather, the illusion of safety) as foolish.

So your posistion (which you don't agree with) is: our rights and freedoms are violated every day, therefore it is okay to violate our rights and freedoms?

Gun aren't any different. The same goes for them as for all our rights. That's the big picture. If it's okay to take away one right, then why is it not okay to take away any of the others?
