A-M-E-N.

Add to that the obscene plaids, patterns, paisleys, pukingly sickening pastels, horrific other shades, and a total lack of "tall" selection for any plus sized female over 5'5".

To the OP; Ebay is your friend. I find some of my best fetish/gothic apparel on there. It simply requires diligence to sift the wheat from the chaff.

so many of  the women i know who are larger sized would prefer that designers just use solid colors with tasteful accents, not trying to "disguise" our size with gaudy prints and crap.  if i could afford it i'd have my own seamstress make my clothing.  part of being in the chair is everything looks crappy when you fold it in half, lol!

You know what makes me mad, is places calling themselves plus size clothing, but their moles on their website are so skinny * well in comparison to me* that I wouldn't even begin to fit one leg let alone the rest of me in their clothing.  Thestores  idea of plus size is like a size 20.

If you have money Ulla Popken has some stuff. Their sizes run large but they are pricey. Also Silhouettes has a lot of larger clothing.
The Catherines by me goes up to 34 or 5x.

There's also the Junonia catalog and website.  Their sizes go up to  6X.  A little pricey but the stuff is good quality.

Size 20 IS a plus size. It may not fit larger women, but certainly most definitely it is plus size. I don't consider anything less than size 18 a plus size. You have to consider that women who do not have weight issues (Or maybe they do, on the other side of the spectrum) are size 2 to size 8. So saying a size 20 is not plus, is like saying a size 0 is not junior.

ETA: You also have to consider that plus size doesn't necessarily mean "Fat". It could also mean "Tall".

Ahhhh the Big Vs Tall debate.

I'm BIG Yup A Sexy Ass Big Burly Teddy Bear of a Man.

I have to shop at Big and Tall, Dillards has a somewhat fashionable if limited selection that handles MOST of my needs. The Problem comes with people shop for me.

Finding TALL sized in 3X and 4X is Easy However a 3X BIG will fit me where as a 4X TALL will not.

I Shop at Casual Male XL in Vegas anytime I am there. I get my Clothes Mail Order. And so Far Wal-Mart Still carried my Shoe Size and since I am not Picky a Boot in 13EEE and a Shoe in 14W is fine and I can usually find something I like because I am not Picky. However anything that is in Fashion that I might like such as Black Large Whale Cordorys is IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND in my size.

To answer the question as to why they think we all want to wear PolkaDots and Stripes.. Simple ... The Fabirc is Cheaper and so they can use more to make your Dress or your Shirt or your Pants and still charge what the other clothes cost.

So that you know a Size 5 dress and a Size 30 dress will on average cost about the same maybe 5 to 10 dollars in difference but the size 30 dress used 3 to 4 times the fabric. If the fabric is expensive then the Plus Size dress in the same fabric should cost 4 times as much. Would you be willing to buy the cute Skirt and Top for 100 when the size 4 costs $22?

I mean you have to understand that in order to clothe yourself you have to accept that they only do it if it is cost effective.

My Jeans cost me $50 a Pop and they are more fragile then the WalMart Wrangler but the walmart wrangler doesn't come in my size so I have to buy Twice as many pairs to get the same amount of use.

I could complain but it is because of my own doing that I am in this situation.

If I Dieted and Excersized the way I know I should I would be able to shop at the Wal Mart and the Levi Strauss And the regular stores.

But since I am not on the band wagon to lose the weight here I am shopping for my clothes online and paying more than designer brand names for sub quality clothes because it is the only option I got.

I put myself here.

Ok that's true how about a size 16 to 18 then? I guess it's not a small size but I don't think it's plus size.

That is true, but not every one will loose weight and there for be able to buy clothing cheaper at  Walmart, just by eating right and exercising. Some people for what ever reason just constantly fight and battle the size issue, and they lead totally healthy life styles, of course it's rare, but it does happen.

And Yup, I would pay 100 dollars for something cute in my size if I wanted it really bad and the same thing but smaller was 22 bucks.

I believe I answered that question. 16-18 could be considered plus, to those who are wearing a size 6, but not to me. I say that, because it has taken me years to get down to a size 16 and I don't want it to be considered a plus size anymore for me lol

I'm a big fan of www.igigi.com - particuarly for their "What shape am I?" calculator that then matches your shape to the clothes along with a size measurement. They're a little pricy, but I have some absolutely stunning pieces that fit -my- particularly shaped body.

Ah the age old argument..I was wondering when this was going to be brought up. I don't know of anyone who follows a strict routine of eating healthy and excersizing who hasn't lost weight.

But it is so much easier to just eat what you want, do nothing to excersize and bitch about how fat you are, then to work it off. When I say "you", I am not talking about you YHMA, I am talking about the general overweight population of "you's". But on the other hand, I have read to many of your posts stating to the fact that you eat out at restaurants alot and you choose to eat unhealthy. Choose to gain weight, choose to pay the higher price of clothing.

I know, I chose to gain my weight by not taking care of myself properly and I have paid the price of the extra material that Steel talked about. I have to fight with myself going past the sweets isle at the store. I have to tell myself constantly that I really don't want that shit. It is an every day struggle for me. But I am sick of going directly to the plus sizes at stores. I want what I want, and in order for me to get what I want, I have to work for it. And that is applied to everything in my life.

Moga, Darling,

I ADORE polka dots and *gasp* I often wear horizontal stripes.  I love them.

I have been known to wear all manner of wild get up.

Oh how soon they forget...

As for people eating right and exercising and still not loosing weight it's rare, but it does happen. I have seen documentaries where the person started fighting weight and size issues at age 10 and they were not junk food addicts or eating tons of junk and they were very very active and other wise "fit" Some people will always battle their weight even if they're other wise eating healthy and exercising. If you've never seen it or experienced it count yourself lucky as I am sure it's quite aggravating to be in that situation.

Yup, that's true, eat like you want and be as lazy as you want, and you have nobody to look to when clothing is expensive but yourself lol, and again this is general you's. I wasn't the one stating price of clothing though steel was, Ok so I said yeah I'd pay 100 bucks for something cute and plus size, even if normal sizes were 22 dollars.

You were theone who asked why do fashion designers think we want polka dots and stripes lol.

*sigh* THIS (see above  part).......is.....me........ Currently, i'm so frustrated and feel so hopeless about this issue. i don't eat a bunch of crap and don't even eat a lot and i can not freaking lose weight. My doctor even put me on some medication to speed up my metabolism.  And yet...here i remain.......

Back to the original question the OP wrote...YHMA..i don't...i'm not being sarcastic or anything.... i seriously struggle with believing i deserve clothes because of how fat i am...

Yes..and FBP doesn't have the cute selection as the others I mentioned.
One of the great mysteries in life...other than the abduction of a single sock taken from your dryer after putting both in..
is this..
Why is it that designers feel that large women WANT or NEED to wear huge polka dots or stripes? If I wanted to look like a clown, I would go and kill one and steal his clothes! And don't get me started on the wild ass colors that designers use for us larger women!
MoGa

Interesting that you should say this......my thinking is why is it that manufacturers of plus size clothing only think we want to wear BLACK?????  And in shapeless, one size fits all styles????  I see things in stores that I like, but there's no way that I'll find it in my size...and I'm only a 20 for God's sake!  I love color, fitted styles, trendy but not outrageous stuff, and the only way I'll get them is to spend a small fortune on one piece at a time.  Most of the Plus size places clothing feels "old" to me....and then there's the fact that I'm short, so nothing ever fits me right...apparently, petite clothing makers don't believe that petite folks can be plus size either!

As far as the OP....you can find things online......every store out there has it's own website w/catalog on it.  Be prepared to pay for it tho, unless you fall into some nice clearance items......I've found that it's usually the bigger  sizes that are left there.  There's one called One Stop Plus, or something like that, that seems to be pretty reasonable.  Give that a try.  Or as someone suggested, learn to sew and make your own.....then you'll know it fits, you can get the styles and colors you like to wear.
