About the links, some of the New York Times articles you have to register and you have to sign in and they ask for your e-mail address so I thought some people would not bother to do it and therefore wouldn't read the article. And I really wanted people to read it because some of stories were really good, like the Frank Rich one which I posted recently.

So what do you think I should do about that, when it's a link where they ask for your e-mail address or to register? Another site that does that is the Op -Ed site. It’s all a opinion journals.

On that site, I like to go to the print page because you can read the whole article on one page, and I remember I had to register and verify my e-mail address by replying to their e-mail. I visit a lot of sites to read as much as I can about politics and health care and it's hard to remember now which ones I have had to register my e-mail and sign in.

Sometimes my computer does it automatically and I just hit enter and I go directly to the webpage so I don't have to type anything. I don't know, it just gets complicated but I will try to not post long articles. So how do you think I should handle these situations?

Another thing I just thought about, I did post the links as well as the articles so why didn’t you just go to the link and click on it and go to that webpage and read it over there? You didn’t have to read it on this site.

I guess I could try going nuts as you suggested and posting a whole lot of links. I wonder if people are going to read them and make comments about it? It is a lot less work for me though

By the way, just like the credit card bill where the banks were charging ridiculous fees, I think the health care bill can do a great deal to bring costs down.

After "Death Panel" Claim, Palin Now Calls For Civility

After making an extraordinary, unsupported and incendiary claim that President Obama's health care plan will result in a "death panel" that is fundamentally "evil," Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin is now calling for civility in the debate on health care reform.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/10/palin-backs-off-death-pan_n_255317.html

Fuck her, she can go to hell. I don’t hear an apology and I don’t hear her supporting the single-payer option either. People sick and dying because they don’t have any health care and that bitch thinks it’s a game! At first I didn’t have a problem with her but I don’t respect her anymore, she has no empathy or compassion not only for people but for the animals she murders hunting.

Hi Brain,

What you do is up to you, of course, up to the tolerance level of the mods. I think, though, that you're under the impression that if you post several entire articles, that people read them. In particular, the people you're responding to aren't interested in the articles. They'll just throw out some new jab, and you'll post more articles, and they'll throw another. It's not about getting to the truth of the matter. They've decided long ago what they think. To make the point that you can support your rebuttal, a link is sufficient. Those who truly are interested will follow them.

The New York Times is a journalism heavyweight, of course. Those who haven't or don't want to register for free don't read it and don't want to, as even though it has turned increasingly more conservative, it still focuses on reporting the news, and many people feel that ignoring their own bias means the paper has a liberal agenda. The same with NPR. These people aren't going to read or believe a word there, simply because they don't want to. Look at the links others provide--"news" from blogs with obvious (explicitly stated) biases.

The reason I suggested links to you is that the blur of pixels clouds over the points made in the thread, as well as making the thread a chore to page through (and not a little bit annoying). I think you would be more effective otherwise.

I read the news daily, from reliable sources. I do not read everything put in front of me. There's more writing everyday than anyone could possibly read. I do read selected things suggested for specific reasons from people I know or respect if that article seems to promise new or interesting information. Most of it, though, is just the same stuff over and over--like yours.

So it's all just a suggestion, but perhaps you'll see why I suggest it. From there, up to you.

Enjoy!

EDITED TO ADD: For example, Brain, the post immediately above this one is well done. There's a short overview, there's the link, and there's your take on it. Message sent, and quickly. If anyone has any reason to look closer, there's the link.

Perfect!

Approval Rating on Obama’s Health Care already Falling - Do you think Town Hall Debate will Help him regain the Popularity? »

Concerns and controversy about Obama's health reform plans are growing all over the country; at town hall meetings, online and on radio chat shows. Obama's popularity rating has fallen and he is engaged in the first real fight of his Presidential career, a fact that comes as no surprise to many political pundits.

Stephen Hawking likes his "Death Panel" Health Care just fine, thanks

After his name surfaced in one of the most uninformed editorials ever—Investor’s Business Daily claimed that British citizen and Cambridge professor Stephen Hawking “wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K.” as a way of suggesting that President Obama’s health-care reform would kill “this brilliant man”—the world’s smartest man has weighed in. He endorsed the health-care system that, according to IBD, should have by now killed him. “I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for the NHS,” Hawking tells Talking Points Memo. “I have received a large amount of high quality treatment without which I would not have survived.”

Facts: A Democrat's Weapon

For the Democratic Party, the health care debate has become an exercise in fact checking. As misunderstandings of President Obama's health care plan for a public option (which only exists in loose form) abound at town hall meetings across the country, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has focused its efforts on fact-checking the statements of health care's reform's opponents--more so than spreading any pro-reform message of its own. Last week, the DCCC built a website, HealthCareFactCheck.com , incorporating fact-checks on health care "myths" propagated by Republicans from PolitiFact and FactCheck.org (along with a few pro-reform talking points for good measure).

Obama: Health Care Critics Creating 'Boogeymen' That 'Aren't Real'

President Obama lashed out at critics of his proposed health care overhaul and tried to curb fears that the government is planning to take over Americans' health care plans. Addressing the idea of the so-called "death panels that will basically pull the plug on Grandma because we've decided that ... it's too expensive to let her live anymore," Obama pointed out that it was actually a Republican -- Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga. -- who introduced that provision in the House bill dealing with end of life care.

"They'll create boogeymen out there that just aren't real," he said to a cheering audience. "So this is an important and complicated issue that deserves serious debate. ... Every time we come close to passing health insurance reform, the special interests fight back with everything they've got. ... This is what they always do."

The president also tried to alleviate Americans' concerns about what his plan entails"Under the reform we're proposing, if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. If you like you health care plan, you can keep your health care plan," the president said.

Opposition to health reform a tangled web of vested interests

The opposition to health reform is a tangled web of vested interests with major financial stakes in maintaining the status quo, no matter how broken it is. That’s one main reason America is the only developed nation in the world that doesn’t provide healthcare to its citizens.

Rick Scott, president of Conservatives for Patients Rights, is flooding the airwaves and funding disruptions of congressional town halls, warning about “government run” healthcare.

Obama's healthcare horror | Camille Paglia@Salon

How is it possible that Democrats, through their own clumsiness and arrogance, have sabotaged healthcare reform yet again? Blaming obstructionist Republicans is nonsensical because Democrats control all three branches of government. It isn't conservative rumors or lies that are stopping healthcare legislation; it's the justifiable alarm of an electorate that has been cut out of the loop and is watching its representatives construct a tangled labyrinth for others but not for themselves. No, the airheads of Congress will keep their own plush healthcare plan -- it's the rest of us guinea pigs who will be thrown to the wolves.

In a Crap Economy, Lawmakers are Livin' Large On The Taxpayer's Dime

A trip by 10 Congress members to the South Pole ranks among the priciest of Congress's travel bills, including flight costs, the total tab would come to more than $500,000.

Thousands Line Up for Promise of Free Health Care

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — They came for new teeth mostly, but also for blood pressure checks, mammograms, immunizations and acupuncture for pain. Neighboring South Los Angeles is a place where health care is scarce, and so when it was offered nearby, word got around.
