I passed my test today! Since Angel was such a good study companion, she was rewarded with a tuna feast (packet of tuna). Misty was not as helpful, but I knew she would be deeply hurt if Angel got a treat and she didn't, so she is enjoying a tuna feast as well. They will also each be receiving a new catnip mouse.

That's great news about the test, Mystic.  Congrats!

Now, I'm confused.  Little Bit's eye is now weeping a yellow-green watery drip....not pus, and I have the antibiotics drops now.  WTF????  And it seems to be weeping more than it was before, now I have to use the eye wash to loosen the eye so it will open.  He was washing it after I got home and put the drops in, and he came in the bathroom, and his eye was bleeding.  I think what had happened was he'd scratched of crusted stuff.  I rewashed his eye, didn't see anymore signs of blood, but the inside is swollen so I can't see his eyeball.  He still doesn't seem to be in any pain, and I'll keep using the boric acid wash, and I think there's 5 more days worth of drops in the bottle.  When he's up and moving around, it doesn't seem to be bad, it's just when he wakes up that it looks bad.  I hope this clears up without another trip to the shelter vet.  {sigh}  I never knew that cats got pinkeye......what a pain in the ass!

You need to get him to the vet now. Find one who will bill you and get him in there now. And keep him seperated from the other kittys.

WOOT Good for you Mystic. i knew that angel and well misty though mischevious and not always that helpful were good study buddies.

I finally got my meds straightened out closer to where they need to be so time will tell.

every fuzzy butt here has been playing and eating and such and are just now laying down to power nap.

i got a pic of midnight eating yesterday and here it is.

I found my cat's blog from the rescue group.  This was when they were still kittens and I was fostering them.  There is a video too

Thanks, s2s, Greedy & EmeraldsPhoenix! I am so glad to have that test behind me!

Our temperature dropped something like 20 degrees today and it has started raining. Angel begged to go out, but was on the porch wailing to come back in within 5 minutes.

We're going to be doing the vet visit again......altho there's no real improvement, even with the antibiotic drops, at least it's not getting any worse. The vet sites I visited said there's an injection they can give the cat, I'm hoping that Litty Bit is old enough....I think he's maybe only 8 weeks old. My neighbor said she saw them just after they were born, and that was at the end of August. Right now he's getting a sulpha/neomyacin type of medication, but the problem is that I'm not supposed to pry the eye open, and I don't think the stuff is actually getting down to the infection. So I'm hoping he can have the injection.....poor little guy!

I hope once it gets cured, he doesn't have any recurrence.....the one site said it's often caused by stress.....I didn't think he was that stressed out from coming inside, but obviously, I was wrong. He seemed to be adapting pretty well, eating, using the potty box, but he was missing his mama and sibs. But the big 'uns were finally warming up to him before all this started....KB even started playing Mom to him. So far, there's no signs of problems with the big 'uns, so I got them all apart before anyone else got it.

He could have herpes. He could have many things. HM (who is a doctor, but not a vet) says that it sounds like it could be bacterial or viral and that any condition that causes any kind of discharge from the eye or bleeding is extremely serious and that it needs to be seen by a vet because it is a high possibility it could cause blindness or worse. (I tried to type that word for word so I hope it's legible.

Christina, I read about the feline herpes....that's the one triggered by stress, much like herpes in humans. I was hoping it was simple conjuctivitis, but apparently, it ain't. The doc wanted to give the drops time to work, but since they aren't helping, we're headed back that way tomorrow.....I'm hoping they can squeeze me in without an appointment....the animal agency is pretty booked. I'm hoping when I describe the looks of his little face/eye, they'll squeeze me in. Otherwise, I'll call the vet my neighbor uses for her kittehs. Either way, the poor little guy is going to be manhandled tomorrow again.

Again, I'm really hoping he can give Litty Bit the shot......I want this to so be cured and over with. But if it is the herpes, they can't cure it, but treat it much like they do in humans....I just need to keep him stress free, and hopefully, he won't suffer outbreaks.

Not sure at this point. I found out that there have been some changes in the course/exam and it is harder to get than it used to be, as well as pretty expensive. Will have to think about that.

Well, damn......my day started off sucky. I took Little Bit to the vet's, and he's going to lose the eye. The medication didn't do a thing, the doc thinks he may have had some sort of trauma to the eye. I saw KB and Boo playing with him before the problem began, and can't help but wonder if they somehow scratched his eyeball. Apparently, the eyeball has exploded and died. The vet, bless his heart, is doing the surgery and giving him all of his first shots for a total of $500, and he's letting me pay it off in increments. I wasn't able to get him into the vet clinic that saw him before, so it was "make phone calls til I find someone!"

So, I am now Litty Bit's official mommy, I'm not letting him go outside, and no one's going to want him with only one eye. He's fitting in here, 2 of the 4 big'uns were getting along with him, so he has a forever home.

Now I'm thinking maybe naming him after a pirate.......get him a little eye patch and little toy parrot he can wear! I know, but if I don't find something to laugh about, I"ll cry......I feel like it was my fault for not getting him to the vet's sooner. I got him there at the first sign of trouble, but still.....I wish the eye could have been saved.

awwwwwwwww s2s thats a bummer, but the good thing is that Lil man probably has already adjusted to the missing eyes function and that is why you never seen any pain or suffering from him. Your a good mommy for him anyway and he is very loved.

Midnight the crazy kitteh just about fell off of the slanted window edge playing with the blinds and is now behind me on the chair playing with the chair and my ponytail LOL. Mystic is hiding up on the window that the air conditioner is in and watching all of this from a distance.

other than that everything is fine here other than my studies for this week are going down the drain fast and misurably.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. He'll be fine, but I know you feel badly about it. Apparently eye problems develop quickly once started, so I guess we always have to run to the vet as soon as we notice them. ((((hugs)))))

He's got a good vet who's helping him and I'm sure he'll be back to his kittenish self in no time.

Thanks guys. He'll be fine, I know, but I still feel a little guilty for not doing more sooner. At first, the drops seemed to be clearing it all up, but then overnight, it just got worse. And if it was a trauma to the eye, and not pink eye or herpes, that's acutally good news. This morning you could actually see the eyeball, and it wasn't even close to being where it was supposed to be. Gross, I know......but he's in good hands, and I'll have him back home tomorrow...it'd be today, but I have to go to work. Putting him down was never an option.....so I now have a $500 loveable stray kitteh. I had an $800 barn cat once, so what the hey, right? What's important is that he gets better.

Thank goodness I start that second job next month!

I just want him back home and better.....I've gotten used to him curling up beside me when I go to bed. There's something comforting about feeling his little furry body next to me.
