Never tell a cop who pulls you over for speeding:

But I didn't think you could use your radar gun if you were coming from the opposite direction.

Do not THEN add: But I was only doing 20 km over the limit, not the 25 you claimed.

Ticket, 6 points and smack yourself upside the head.

When he asks, "Do you know why I stopped you?" never say Yes. You just admitted guilt. When he asks if he can search your car, or look in the trunk, never say Yes. Especially if there is something in there you don't want him to see. Never admit to drinking or taking anything, especially if you have been. Even saying "a beer with dinner" gives him probable cause to order a breath test. Never consent to a field sobriety test. They are purely subjective.

Never ever say, "You think you are such a big tough guy with that gun and that club. Why don't you take them off and we can settle this like real men?" Anybody that ever saw a John Wayne movie should know better.

This actually happened to me. I got pulled over by a baby cop (less than 6 months in a patrol car on his own). After giving me a ticket he started rattling off all of the things I needed to know. I then informed him that he didn't need to explain it to me as I had been driving since before he was out of diapers. I'm sure that he would have had some sort of a snappy retort if I also hadn't said to him "Say Hi to Chief_____" That was about the time his jaw dropped, right along with his macho attitude, and he slowly crept back to his car.

As an aside... Seen on the back of a member of the Bomb Squad:

"I'm with the bomb squad. If you see me running... TRY TO KEEP UP"

This happend to me back in 2002 when I busted a stop light...

Officer: Do you know what that yellow light is for?
Me: Yes Sir, it means run like hell before the motherfucker turn's red.

Needless to say I had a ticket.
