I've never played casually, so there is no need for a safe word.  I prefer the radical notion of direct communication.  Just say what's wrong: back or neck spasm, sciatic nerve or asthma attack coming on, etc.    If it's something very serious, play will cease.  If the position can be adjusted, it is and the  needle work or flogging will continue.

I have TMJ so gags have never been used, either.  Besides, I like to hear the screams.....

We've always agreed that if I get carried away on something, she can address me by my first name and say stop. Ex: "Joe, Stop." Or, if gagged, she can wiggle her legs. Never had to do either, though. I don't like her being in too much pain, so I usually treat excessive whimpering or visual pleading as a safeword. Body language is very important.

Always used the color system.

But there was someone on another forum I frequent that used "Pineapple Express" lol

Just curious to know of everybody's safe word of choice?

With me, I usually agree with my slaves that unless she is gagged, the safe word is "Taco Bell". Why? *shrug* I guess because we find humor in the concept of it all, really.

Humor in safety? Somehow I do not think many submissives would find comfort in such an approach

I disagree Acer, I think humour is just as valid when talking about safety concerns.  A safeword I have had was broccoli which made me laugh when I was first told about it.  It didn't mean the dominant took safety any less seriously.

As someone more prone to one-off meets than regular encounters, I find that the traffic light system is generally accepted as being an easy to use , and understand, arrangement. In the event that the young ladys mouth is "full" or otherwise out of service, I have discovered the joys of small childrens castanets, less than 60 seconds of instruction and my partners have no problem giving me a noisy signal,  they are unlikely to do so accidentally, and attached to either wrist or thumb they are not going to be dropped.

I don’t have one, but if I did and humor was the goal, I’d go with poppycock; that one cracks me up every time.

I'm with Wanders. My safeword is supposed to be "Marvin" as in, Marvin the Martian of WB cartoon fame.
That said, what is much more likely to come out of my mouth is something like, "BACK SPASM!!!!!!" or, "HOLYFUCKINGSHITKNOCK IT OFFYOUBASTARD!!!!!" Guess I'm just a "direct communication" kind of girl

We talked about safewords years ago, but actual "words" would do little good since she is gagged 95% of the time. I decided on a bell. It's a clip-on brass bell used for fishing, and I just clip it on her ring. She holds it in her hand, and opens her hand and shakes if necessary. In 10 years or so, it's actually only been used once. She generally has marks inside her hand from grasping it hard so it doesn't make a sound, lol.

We don't use safewords, I believe in the idea I should know my beloved slave and his reactions, I should know if it is going too far, by his reactions, breathing, sounds. But then again we have been together for years and years. If he had a leg cramp or such I would expect him to say leg cramp, not remember a code word. I find the concept of remembering a code word when in danger, or nonconcensensual pain to be rather silly. if a person is having issues breathing and in a panic, they should not have to bother searching their memory for "elm tree" or what ever safe word has been given.

I did once give him a "safe phrase" but it was more of a semi inside joke. He is a former Marine, and I am retired Navy, so there has always been playful bantering about our service of choice, so at one play party event I did give him the "safe phrase" - The Navy is God, and the Marine Corps suck- *EG* I did make him say it, it was all in fun though, he was never in danger, or crisis.

LOL, UD! You should have given him the M.a.r.i.n.e acronym, "My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment"

I dont have a safe word, although in breath play (when he is choking me) I tap his leg or arm when I can't handle anymore.

Just my two cents, I think when people are new to each other or to the lifestyle, it's a good thing to have a safeword.
It think it's wonderful that most everyone here has such a great relationship that they can "read" their sub/slave and react accordingly, but I think it's very important to NOT discourage the newbies from using one, at least at first.

And for the record...mine is technically Rajah...which is the name of one of my former cats, however, I've found that just saying "Honey" gets his attention if something is wrong, like a cramp. I also have TMJ, which means that gags aren't commonly used with me, though I do like the idea of the bell!

Otherwise, I'm with Aqua, I like to say, NO! Please Don't! STOP! Don't! Stop! Don't! Stop! Don't Stop!  Ohhhh! Please don't stop!
And I would hate to have a fun scene end just because of using one of those words!

The MENS dept.    :)

In generally we stick with the green, yellow, red method.  On occasion, my "holy shit i'm not ready for that at all and i think i'm going to die" one is "Black"....like our souls.  O_o  I've shouted red once...but never black.

With Ex Sir, we never had a safe word per say, if something would get too much for me, I would just tell him to stop. Depending on what was going on, he would (or wouldn't) if it was the Hitachi, he definetly would NOT stop lol

Anyway, I have been talking to someone else, whom I have known for a while and has wanted to play with me from the day we met, but I was with Ex Sir at the time. He uses the color system, so I am going to have to remember that when/if we play
