Anyone remember that Not The Nine O’clock News sketch a few years back, where Griff Rhys-Jones played Kennedy?

"I have learned a valuable lesson from the events of Chappaquiddick. A lesson many of my fellow Americans would do well to heed, and the lesson is this:

Don't drive across narrow bridges when you're pissed out of your mind".

I do find it interesting though that for all his clan's money, power and influence, the American people would never elect a man who acted in such a way. I find that rather commendable, As in, there are some things you can't fix with money, power and influence.

Still, he did a lot of good too; he was a rallying point for liberalism, and looking through the list of legislation he championed, he made quite a positive difference to American life. One can't help but wonder what he would have achieved had he stopped drinking like a pissed fish and shagging anything with a skirt and a pulse.

Jeeze folks, do ya think we could wait until the body is cold before we start bashing him (on this or other threads)?

I'm no great fan of the man myself but let's remember that there are grieving family and friends - a little tact is in order.

Whatever the man's sins (and who amongst us is not without them?) I hope he finds peace and forgivness in the arms of a loving God.

His family and friends read CM?

Actually ... that doesn't sound that crazy, thinking about it.

Grofast -> RE: Senator Kennedy just died. (8/26/2009 9:36:41 AM)

i liked some of his politics and respected the man more than any of the Kennedy boys he had to over come not only himself but the legend of camalot and his brother Bobby. Will miss him as a member of the loyal opposition

Oh I liked most of his politics - I'm a card-carrying liberal and not afraid to say so. Possibly slightly to the left of that even ... I just found the money and power so corrupted him that it really spoiled him ... I've been reading back on some Chappaquiddick stuff today, and it really was wholly reprehensible. There are some things you just can't forgive, nor should you.

But a good politician and a fine legislator? Yes, absolutely.

uhhh  tact for a murderer.  surely you jest.  there is no statue of limitations on murder.
I think one is supposed to feel remorse for that peace and forgiveness.  Since he never acknowledged any murder, it is doubtful that he had any remorse.  But maybe now her family can find peace.
