Here's your chance to open my eyes. Several posters have claimed Fox is the only remaining fair and balanced news source. Several have also repeatedly dismissed The New York Times, CNN, and NPR out of hand as liberal bias. OK...show me. I'm listening. Give me examples: Post a link to Fox and explain briefly why the story is uniquely fair and balanced. Post links to the same story in The New York Times, CNN, and NPR, detailing the liberal bias. Among you, we should have a pretty good list. I await my education. Thanks in advance for taking a few minutes to contribute. Please show me.

Folks, I'm serious about the OP. For real. Show me honest to goodness head to head news stories (not columns, editorials, sensational pictures--we all, I think, agree that news reporting is not the investigative activity it once at least appeared to be). Let's get past the gloss to the heart of it. Head to head news stories that highlight the fair/balanced vs. the liberal bias. Thanks. I'm honestly listening. Show me.

Sanity, I get it too. But show me where the news sources are running that photo. And for what stories? I'm not seeing it in the Times, for example. And the AP has a HUGE online database of all sorts of photos. Take a look! But again, I'm not seeing it in the news, and I'm not seeing it in any stories. Head to head stories, folks. Examples of the bias, head to head. So many of you are so adamant, they should be easy to find. Specific examples, please.

Well, nobody gets it in this context, you can better believe yahoo news did not set up the photo op for that image, ok, so they ran it.....they also ran the hitler moustache on of him too in their various stories. So, it doesn't respond to Tims criteria in any way, it is a simple derail: So, to review: Post a link to Fox and explain briefly why the story is uniquely fair and balanced. Post links to the same story in The New York Times, CNN, and NPR, detailing the liberal bias. Heretic and Sanity will be marked with an incomplete.

Hi Rich, I can understand that, and anticipated some of that...it's why I'm emphasizing the point. I'll also ask that any liberal snarkiness remain out of this thread. It's a serious question regarding specific evidence. If Fox is fair/balanced and the Times/CNN/NPR are liberally biased, please point out specific examples. What news source, Rich, if not FOX, do you consider reliable (comparatively, at least)? [ I, for one, don't get my news from Yahoo or Google or even MSNBC.]

Ron, what are we going to do with you??? The AP feed on Yahoo News has been my default for basic coverage for a good while. I don't remember seeing this President with a Hitler mustache. In a cartoon about what a racist image it was, maybe? Muse wants to set up his little obstacle course of flaming hoops, and I do wish him the best with that. I hope he has a lot of fun getting folks to jump through. The real bias is in the basic worldview of the people who create news as a product. What isn't asked, what isn't assumed relevant, isn't going meet the standards he will set, but one of the better examples of mainstream liberal bias was the years of coverage about the homeless before the drug/alcohol/mental illness element was brought into the discussion I just found it really funny to go from this thread to my news link, and find that picture of the President staring out at me.

No, Rich. Come on. Flaming hoops? The Times, CNN, and NPR are consistently held up as examples of liberal bias, with Fox as fair and balanced. I'm asking for examples. Hardly an obstacle course--should be easy, and these are major, long respected news sources. If it will make you happier--I completely agree about the Yahoo picture. But then, I don't consider search engine companies reliable news sources. Take a quick look at Fox's home page. Its lead news stories are all about Republicans. Deride this if you will. At least stay on the sidelines. People have been after me for years about citing liberally biased sources. I'm asking for head to head examples of that bias in the news stories. Please. [edited to add...rule, let the picture go, please...it is indeed a poor choice for a news source--and that's why the major news organizations didn't run it.] Need a start? Breaking news--the Republican candidate in the New York Congressional race to replace McHugh (I'm in that district, incidentally--a Republican district for years and years), just dropped out, leaving the Democrat and the Conservative in a tight race. All four are covering it---Fox, the Times, CNN, NPR. Let's compare the stories.

Muse, One of the problems with your "test" is your desire to see Fox's motto of "Fair and Balanced" as a test of an absolute standard of fairness, rather than what it actually is: a reaction to the "unfairness" of the majority of the current "major media". Firm

OK, fair enough. I just keep hearing Fox presented as the standard. I would agree with you that Fox is not trying to be fair and balanced, but rather biased toward the right as a reaction to a perceived leftward bias in other news media. Other posters (from other threads) disagree with that, maintaining Fox as the standard. If some folks are conceding that Fox is NOT a good standard, propose what you DO consider the standard, and compare to the Times/CNN/NPR liberal bias. For example...The Wall St. Journal and the Christian Science Monitor are considered more conservative, and are both long-standing reliable news sources. If you prefer, use them, or propose your own. Good point. Examples? Fox's rightward bend doesn't establish liberal bias elsewhere, just Fox's perception (and perhaps its viewers). We need head to head examples. Reliable source vs. liberal bias in the Times/CNN/NPR. Coverage of specific stories head to head.

I don't really trust any of them to have it completely accurate. I start with a collection of headlines from Yahoo. An amazing number of the stories I find there, run in my own local paper the next day. Same byline, usually. I don't need to put a snob factor on where I hear about a midair collision off the CA coast, and the search for nine. Pravda would work. I like coverage from whatever source generally takes the beat anyway. If I want to know a lot more about the midair crash, Aviation Week and Space Technology, is a probably the source most likely to get it right, and I'll just have to wait. I don't trust one source, Muse. I like a lot of sources, and I like them to disagree on things all the time.
