ORIGINAL: DesFIP I admit my daughter's been released. She'll be on crutches for a week, and needs the pin removed in about 3 weeks. The hospital feels it was a reaction to the painkiller but she took those same painkillers last year without problems. She feels it's the laundry detergent they use. Regardless, I'm just happy she's getting better. Being this far away makes me feel helpless. Oh and DC, she had poison ivy last week so she'd identify that rash. She just finished the prednisone. I once worked at a hospital laundry, so I know a little about their methods. Assuming the hospital where your daughter was does things similarly, they use a highly concentrated industrial detergent that does not have any of the perfumes that are usually responsible for allergic reactions. Laundry is then put through multiple wash and rinse cycles to ensure removal of all the detergent because even a small amount would result in serious chemical burns. The next step is steam sterilizing, then it all goes into dryers that are much hotter than anything you have at home or in a laundromat. The end result is laundry that is sterilized and hypoallergenic. If they do things differently, all bets are off and I'm just talking from the wrong orifice. Either way, the important thing is that she's doing better.
