Does anyone else take vitamin/mineral/herbal supplements of any kind? and if so, which ones? I take a good multi-vitamin (Centrum Silver, actually. Even though I am only not quite 44, the Silvers absorb well and do not bother my stomach as much, plus they have the extra iron I need), and am considering ginseng and bee pollen (I used to take both in the past, and felt great doing it, so..).

Centrum pretty much sticks with FDA Recommended Daily Allowance amounts and the RDA is sufficient only to avoid obvious deficiency diseases in most people.

For example, the RDA of Vitamin C is 60 mg, but one should actually take it to "bowel tolerance" (which means once you get gassy, you've had the right dosage) which for me is 3,000 mg under normal circumstances and more if my body is fighting a bug or toxin.

So I don't take multis, but individual supplements, so I can target key nutrients at the desired dosage.

I take L-Carnitine which helps with metabolism and energy, CoQ10 for heart health, omega 3, calcium citrate, and cinnamon. I ran out of multivitamin but usually take centrum  performance.  i also have L-glutamine for sugar cravings.

I get my supplements from puritan's pride -- they tend to have really good sales like buy 1 get 1 all the time and sometimes buy 1 get 2.  Their prices are pretty descent also.

I can't believe nobody revived this for the new year.

I lost 57 pounds in 2010

yay me :)

That's INCREDIBLE Sophie!!!

I dont eat less, just differently. More of a schedule. Skipping meals confuses your body. If you have more of a routine it helps. Even though I was constantly on my feet, running and running - I gained 60 pounds in 3 years of swing shifts and never eating at the same time...or sleeping. You have to have a sleep schedule too, or something resembling one. I would go days without sleeping because of timing. Exercise is great, but the only exercise I do now is walking, which I haven't been since we've had so much snow. Walking is actually the best exercise you can get. Don't think I'm heading to the gym and sweating away doing aerobics or anything like that. I'm not. I probably should! But, I'm not.
Stress - get rid of as much of it as you can! If you've seen my posts elsewhere you know I'm back to being stressed about some things, but it's still not as bad as it was. I eliminated so many negative people from my life.....

I would like to add to the vitamin information.  What the label on a bottle of vitamins says for the amount of a certain vitamin is what is tested in the pill.  This is not necessarily what your body actually metabolizes.  It's very important to make sure that you are taking a supplement that is actually giving you that amount for you to utilize.  I'm always suspicious of bargain brands & nationally advertised brands.

I've been going to the same gym at work for a year (Jan 2010) & it's been very productive yet on the flip side the gym is very small therefore working out on my own so much has become very boring so I've started attending their classes starting last Friday.  To date I've participated in their "Body Sculpt", "Step Aerobic" & "Mat Pilates" classes & I feel so much better! When you're bored w/your workout, mix it up to make it more enjoyable.
If you've ever attended group classes consistently (longer than 6 months) you'll notice that they change their routine every 3 months so it doesn't become stagnant. That's a good rule of thumb to follow.
I do believe I'll try their "Zumba" class this week tho quite honestly the only time I like to dance is when I've been drinking!

Hey all, in speaking with someone, i found a really interesting way that may help people stay motivated --

i am making a pearl bracelet that i will wear every day that will reflect my weight loss and following my shape up plan.  Each bawi pearl will represent pounds lost, each tahitian pearl to fit between will represent the months i worked out 26 days or more for an hour each day.  So hopefully as i add to it it will motivated to want to keep adding to it and finish it and when i am finished i will have a very pretty full bracelet.  SO everytime i have success i will buy a pearl and add it.   I was going to do this with charms (island vacation type charms as my final goal is Jamaica at the end of the year) and make each charm represent a certain pounds lost like every 2 lbs lost, as well as once a month if i exercised 26 days or more for an hour i would get an additional charm.  But i liked the pearl idea better.   I will wear it daily to remind me of my goals.

Just thought i would throw this out there because i know especially when you have a longer journey, its hard many times to stay focused and motivated, so maybe the sight of your success on your wrist every day may help.

I know I should be walking more but even a 2 or 3 block strut makes my hip and lower back makes me screaming out in pain.  I am looking into Anytime Fitness for being a gym so I can go in at my personal time and it has weights so aat least I can get in a good workout, not like what Curves was giving me.

Last night, I got on my hands and knees and scrub the little patch of tile that is at the front door.  I swear that no one ever thinks of scrubbing that area.  It is now clean and my back and knees are hating me for it.  At least I got some t-bone  as a reward...LOL! Add brussel sprouts and it was a good meal.  I attack the sprouts first and made the steak last on my list.

Tonight, I am fixing up a salad while Lizard attacks the yogurt again (that child loves yogurt as her supply of calcium intake).

Not really.  My  last checkup had me at 319.

I am just waiting for the approval for bypass surgery (stomach. not heart).  I am opt for the sleeve style because it does not affect the intestines.

When I get the bypass, I am enrolling at Anytime fitness.  They have more machines to push me to the limit.

At this time, I am on antibiotics ordered by the dentist.  Apparently I had an infection and did not know it.  I will get a tooth yanked out this Friday.

I wondered where this thread had gotten off to.  Guess who is joining?

I have been buying exercize books to see what kinds would be suitable and which are out of the question.  With three old back fractures, anything involving impact (like jumping jacks or jogging) is out.  Am dealing with two evil knees as well.

This past week and a half, I have stopped going for walks because I had to sit in a cheap, hard, small chair for about 4 hours around the first, and my lymph glandless right leg swelled up from knee to toes.  Trying to keep it elevated to make the swelling go down, and am about to resort to buying small sox and wrapping from foot to below knee in a wide, Ace bandage.

Exercizing on my bed made the springs pop through the mattress after about seven months, so I have been looking for alternatives.  Cannot get onto the floor and back up again for sit ups or crunches because of my knees...I would rip them to shreds.

I have put on winter weight and dieting alone is not going to make a difference, I have to find easy exercizes and get motivated to do them.  Taking long walks three times per week was so easy and brainless.

I wonder if making an ugly flogger and using it to beat up my basement couch would count as...what type...of exercize.  Aerobic?

I almost did a bloodcurdling scream when I got on the scales at my doctor's office and saw my new weight.

Cynthia, I have a friend who suffers from edema in her legs when she stands for long periods (long for her....15-20 minutes)or walks. She bought "support hose" (Think tights) & hasn't had any real issues & with those she's able to go running/walking every morning w/her dog.
If that's not an option what kind of activities CAN you do?

I keep telling the doctor (triage) that I was too fat...I have to take pills for my trigs, I can pick up a bag of soil but i am screaming in pain afterwards.  I cannot even describe how my feet are (I wear men's moccasins to go anywhere.)

Hey Cynthia,
The "Duhhhhh" was aimed at me for not realizing that the water will do wonders for you :)

For me, I've entered my 12yr old & 5yr old grandkids in races along w/me that we are currently training for. The 5yr old's races are 1 mile & the 12yr old &I will be doing 3.2 miles & 6.2 miles.
The 3.2 mile race is in June & is an obstacle course thru mud pits. Yayyyyyy! Dirt! (1 mile version of this for the 5yr old) Her race is at 9am, ours is at 7am.

The 6.2 mile race is in Oct. It's the Marine Corps 10k. (1 mile Kid's Fun Run for the 5yr old the day before).
