Wow, you actually made the effort to paste all my posts into notepad? Impressive. Most people would have just told me to fuck off. I have to give you credit for trying to understand.

Yes, the differences in our perspectives comes largely from the fact I have lived and traveled extensively my whole life. I was raised primarily in the south in a deeply Christian conservative home. There is no way that this kind of upbringing cannot influence one's worldview. Now as an atheist and a pervert, I am no longer allowed back in Georgia. They stop me at the border.

I currently call Texas home - still very conservative - but have lived in San Francisco and New York and prefer those cities because they reflect my current values. I travel all over the US for my work and get an opportunity to experience first hand the varying levels of tolerance and acceptance for people who are different. I have noticed that younger people do tend to be more tolerant of diversity as a group, but they also tend to be more self-centered. This shouldn't surprise anyone and thus my post that you quoted initially.

Because of my work and to some degree my personality, I have two feet always firmly grounded in the vanilla world. I can't say the same thing about many of the people who frequent this site and these forums. To each his own, I am not passing judgement. However, when it comes to defining what is a "social norm," I take into consideration where people live, whether or not they may be marginalized from society at large, or whether they admittedly don't care what others think. Also, understand that I am not saying that what is "normal" is necessarily right.

I don't think you and I share different values; we just don't agree on how the rest of society may or may not perceive us and whether or not that is even important.

I have to disagree w/the bold print........with the exception of a handful of folks it seems like the majority are bedroom kinksters only & vanilla everywhere else.

For me, a permanent collar would be a safety issue. One of my main hobbies/forms of exercise is gymnastics, and it would be *very* dangerous to have something secured to my neck which could get hung up on the apparatus, especially if it were metal or thick leather which would be strong enough to support my body weight without breaking. No jewelry of any sort is allowed during class time in locations where it could get caught. Also, there are several kids, including ones young enough to ask nosey questions, and their parents in the class, and I feel (and my Master agrees) that it would be inappropriate to wear an obvious collar around them. Jeff (Leadership), I understand that you don't view collars as sexy or kinky, but personally, I would consider it to be in a similar category to wearing a corset and miniskirt there - just not suitable for that company, though I do wear that kind of thing to other events and places.

So, I would probably need a dispensation for that, or to wear something around an ankle which could be covered by my pants and socks and won't get me hung up, and would be delicate enough to break if it did manage to get caught. I'd be nervous of body piercings, for the same reason - if they can be taken out for a couple of hours, they'd be fine, but some need to stay in or have a plastic retainer substituted.

It might be that they have two feet in the vanilla world but their brains are so mother fucking fucked up that they can't begin to understand what douchenozzles they make themselves out to be.

Well when you talk about collars of that sort I have to admit that I have one. My master has two slaves and his other slave has been with him longer so she's got a regular collar that most subs wear, but since we are in a pinch with money right now I wear a dog collar. She has a dog collar for sleeping but that's it. He's been promising me a new better collar cause the one i have I can't wear in public without weird looks. Heck I am on a fire dept and nearly forgot I was wearing it and wore it to the fire dept. He has made it a rule that I don't have to wear my collar at fire dept stuff and at doctors visits. and most government buildings. Guess he's afraid of what they might say. The fire dept doesn't like the whole idea of what we do anyway so I guess not wearing it there is a good idea.

And Des... I too am past the point of needing to shock strangers. I do them for the sake of my own marriage. I just am willing to give other people (and myself) a little personal space for their own self-expression.

We do things for the sake of our relationship also. And part of our relationship includes our devotion to our mixed group of kids. So risking alienating a soon to be daughter in law and risking a relationship with his son is not something we are willing to do. No more than we are willing to risk a tenuous relationship with his eldest, which he is just now mending, and her children.

Master put a training collar on me last night, a regular nylon one with a padlock, yes He gave me a key. i had to go run a few errands today and i wore it, proudly, and yes i got a few looks but it didn't bother me at all. In fact it reminded me even more of who and what i am. The only time i can't wear it is at work, but Master has told me that i must keep it with me and it will fit nicely into my uniform pocket.

i guess i have no problem wearing one in public....

i love wearing my Master's collar in public. It makes me feel distinguished, special. It does get a lot of attention but i have been lucky enough not to have anyone make any negative comments to my face.
Although i never wore it to work. i think that would cause issues at work that i dont want to get into. Since that is where my mortgage payment comes from i dont want to rock the boat....lol
Master actually took my collar away for a long time because He didnt think i was worthy of wearing it. He didnt think i understood the significance or what it represented. i am happy to say that i did improve and was able to earn back the priviledge of wearing it once again.
i feel my leather collar is far more important than any gold band worn on the finger. When i walk down the street wearing Master's collar i am somebody special. i am His and thats all that matters, and if i walk down the street by Master's side i am in heaven.......

I have two collars. One that I wear at all times (aside from the shower) outside work and one for work. I've had no trouble wearing one at work. It is, after all, legally protected being that it is a representation of an alternative lifestyle. The only trouble I had concerning my collar was that some co-workers that disliked me(they act like they're in middle school) used it against me. Or rather not so much against me as they used absurd "safety hazards" as an excuse I couldn't wear it any longer. I talked with the head manager of where I worked and after agreeing to wear one that could break away that I would once again be able to wear one. So aside from immature people trying to take my ability to wear it away from me to get at me I've had no trouble and a large amount of compliments on it. Most people don't even seem to understand what it is and simply compliment me on my "choker" or "necklace". When I wore one with a lion head that held a ring in his mouth I got the most compliments. It was my first collar with my Master.

The one I wear at work now is a very simple black leather collar with no adornments that laces up in the back.

This is just my own personal experience:

I love my collar.  I got it at Petsmart, along with a very nice leash.  It fits perfectly with the Celtic cross that my mom got me for my 21st birthday.

I don't wear these things because Daddy ordered me to, although if he did I would not have a second thought.  Kiddos thought that the collar was just a cool off-beat piece of "embellishment" that fitted my personality.  I have a new place of employment, which I cleared the wearing of such an item with HR prior to hire.  I also cleared the tatoo issue with HR.  We aren't going with traditional wedding rings; rather, we are getting tat's but mine is going a bit further in that I am going to add a "slave bracelet" with my kiddo's names around my wrist.

I like the tangible items that remind me that I am "owned", but I don't need them.  However, I like shiny things.    And I love the look on his face, and how blue his eyes get, when I am bestowed with such things.  *going to snugglepounce some Daddy now*

I Love It...i live in Florida...and i have two collars...one large one i wear rarely when i feel brave, and a small one that is slight...but still obvious to the vanillas at the local
market...but either way, i love wearing them in public...the confusion and stares tend to be fun.
