I would just say “Thank you but I am a proud atheist. You should read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.”

A strange thing happened to me today. i was getting Donna out of the van (she's in a wheelchair and the van has a mechanical lift) at Burger King. Some guy we did not know, who was driving out of the parking lot, stopped behind us and called out his passenger window "God bless you". i said, (under my breath) "God doesn't want to bless me and i don't need it either".

what should one say or do in such a situation?

Which will come across as... "fuck you!" .. to someone who wished you well. Thereby proving once again that the beliefs most religious people have about atheists are true.

Or you could quote some Marilyn Manson lyrics, if you're going to insist on behaving like a petulant teenager rebelling against his Christian parents.

Just flip the do-gooder the bird next time. That'll bring him down a notch or two.

It follows, therefore, that there is no practical difference between you and someone who upon being wished "Good luck" would say, "Thank you but I'm a proud Christian. Luck has nothing to do with it. You should read the Bible sometime."

K.

Hahahaha

Your God is dead.
AND I KILLED HIM BITCH
But uh, you have a nice day too. Not a blessed day. Just a nice one. Are we clear?

Apocalypso -> RE: Why i hate Sundays (7/13/2010 1:37:41 AM)

Yesterday someone said "nice day" to me.  Actually, I'm not a great fan of the Summer.  I prefer it a bit cooler.  So I muttered "fuck you, actually I like a good bit of drizzle" under my breath.  But he heard me and now he won't speak to me in the street anymore.

Why are people so intolerant of my views?

How about this Mikey... be thankful that someone is willing to talk to you.

Yea, nothing like acting like a rude little toad to show someone whats what[8|]

AsmodaisSin -> RE: Why i hate Sundays (7/13/2010 11:27:54 AM)

Why are people even upset about this?  So the guy was careless and said "God bless you."  Get over yourself.  Is there any reason to be nasty back aside from just being nasty?

pahunkboy -> RE: Why i hate Sundays (7/13/2010 12:13:50 PM)

So how would one proceed with a lawsuit?

Extend your middle finger and tell him "god bless you too".

sunshinemiss -> RE: Why i hate Sundays (7/13/2010 3:14:34 PM)

I have better things to do than get irritated that someone wants to wish me well.  Meh.

IF the person knew you were a "realist" then i can see how you may be upset at the expression.

A stranger wishes you something that is heart felt and meaningful to him/her, and this upsets you?

Would you rather he/she called out to you.... "fucking idiot!"

In a world that is full of rudeness and meanness, you want to complain about this?

What business does a stranger have in invoking their personal beliefs on someone they do not know and have no idea of what that person believes?

If you want to wish someone well then say "I wish you well".

No need to inject belief systems into it.

While that's a wonderful twist, unfortunately, it's not an accurate one.  You would have to prove that there is no God to claim it.  Something that you don't have the ability to do.

As for negativity, are you quite sure that you, specifically as a person, want to engage in that debate?

You are asking for proof of a negative, claiming that those who do not believe must disprove what their is no proof of.

Interesting.

So let me see if I understand what you are saying.

Someone can make a reference to something that someone else does not believe in but if that second person politely affirms that he does not believe then he is the one being rude?

Is it not rude to foist your beliefs on others, regardless of whether it is well-intentioned?
