I wasn't really all that into 9 1/2 weeks but I did like Body Of Evidence, where Madonna initiates her lawyer into BDSM with his hands belted behind his back and dripping hot wax on his chest.

Liked it, loved it, lurved it.

However, wouldn't it be nice, from the choir's point of view, if Maggie Gyllenhall's character have come from a mentally stable background, instead of the one we are presented with?

I agree completely - the only thing I disliked about the film (and I really disliked it) was the implication that you have to be a nutter to be kinky.

For me - the scene where she wets herself rather than get up really did it for me.

You have to be nutty to be involved in the BDSM world.Do you think it's fucking "normal" to hurt another human being?

If a bodys physiological response to pain or fear is arousal with a significant segment of the population (check out the studies), than I would say yes.

And yes, hurting and cruelty is part of the human condition.

Look at the profile. She intellectualized EVERYTHING! Kind of distant from actually living and loving who you are and life!

See, that's how I read it also Jujubee. Heck, I've seen lots and lots of vanilla love stories where the two people were wrecks who saved each other. Redemption through love is a pretty common theme, not one leveled at sicko BDSM folks. So I saw the film as a sweet love story with a D/s theme that actually made some sense.

That's what I got from this also.

Spader was fighting his desires all along. I thought he went through previous secretaries because he was fighting his own nature, not because he was callous and unfeeling. He stopped treating Maggie (Lee) in a D/s way until her provocations (bad typing and finally the worm) become too much for him. That's why he exercised obsessively, he was trying to stop acting according to his nature.

I liked that they each found the person that fit for them.

9½ Weeks was meant to shock old women in retirement homes.

I choose the side with Timothy McVeigh. If you seriously believe that you're aren't damaged then poop.

A wall of text on CM that makes sense and isn't hard to follow...

I would definately say "intellectualized" but she definately makes it clear that she enjoys living and appreciates her mind and the way it works.

You don't have to address the world entirely through sentiments (as opposed to reason) to be content or love yourself. Notice the fact that she loves her "nuttiness".

Personnally, I do process the world mostly through emotion, but intellectual creativity is not lost on me.

I'm going to finish reading that profile later - too much reason and my brain overheats.

Wrong on both counts, for me at least. If you read both books, you would perhaps feel differently. Especially 9 1/2 weeks. I read it years ago and am still haunted by the final line in the book; it will haunt me forever.

Isn't it something about wondering if she"ll "ever be warm again"? I liked how much more fleshed out Mickey Rourke's character was in the book.

I'd definitely get more out of reading the books. At the very least, my imagination would offer its assistance every other paragraph. Having access to the male protaganist's thoughts and motivations would also be highly valuable to me.

I can appreicate a visual display of smoothness and nonchalance but it doesn't make the character highly relatable.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but imo these are essentially "chick flicks". There just isn't enough there to go - I really wish I were that guy...

How much can you relate to movies where the female character isn't "fleshed out" and are mostly geared towards a male audience? Because that is the equivalent "So what?"

I think you would maybe be more interested in the M Rourke character from the book rather than the movie.

I hear what you're saying about being able to empathise more with a character you can understand better.
