Secretary has heart and quirk and a very convincing love story

I found it shallow, extremely unconvincing, and with no erotic appeal whatsoever. To each his/her own.

FR-
A bit late to this thread, but I genuinely liked The Secretary; the performances were powerful, and the story seemed compelling Yes, about fucked up people, but its not like that is a rarity in the BDSM world, now is it?

What touched me was the suggestion that self-destructive behavior whether her cutting or his self-isolation can be eased by alternative behavior; by the end, their acceptance of the unconventional sex life helped make them whole and balanced- note the scene where she throws away her cutting tools.

Ok, so one could say it is a bit pat, but most love stories are.

I give it two thumbs, inserted way up.

It's actually one of my favorite movies to come from 'mainstream' sources. I was not bothered by the mental instability of the characters, because even in real life I'm attracted to females with those personality quirks, probably because I'm not 'healthy' myself. I've had two great relationships with 'cutters' that could probably be blamed for my interest in BDSM today. I liked the innocent and cute good girl personified by Maggie Gyllenhaal (and I think her smile is infectious), it's one of my most desired personalities for a submissive girl. It could have been more realistic or extreme, but it's a movie based around a love story between two 'abnormal' people more than an accurate display of BDSM lifestyle. It's simply another movie to sell to a vanilla audience, so it's understandable that people heavily involved in BDSM would find faults and be bored with the film. I thought it was sweet and very hot, especially her complete obedience (eating strange meals, sitting in the office, etc) even when confronted by family, without bothering to explain or acting as if there was anything unusual.

My opinion : this movie sucks. I was totally unimpressed and didn't even finish watching it,which is rare for me - I usually stick it out , and I try to find some redeeming quality  no matter how much a movie underwhelms me, but not this one. I'd rather roleplay a game of secretary any day.......

Another movie which got a lot of attention but made me feel the same way was Tie Me Up,Tie Me Down. I watched it all the way through but thoroughly disliked it. Again - I'd rather do a kidnap roleplay any old day,or evening, or whenever. than spend any minutes watching this........

Another film that was NOT about BDSM. Just because bondage is alluded to in a movie title does not mean it is about the lifestyle.

It's a typical story, really. Man with rocky past in relationships falls in love with a girl that isn't normally his type and tries to hold himself back. Woman falls in love but doesn't get the attention she wants, and goes through a penance to prove her love. Man accepts her and it's happily ever after. It's a plot you've seen a thousand times, and BDSM is simply the theme transposed over an unoriginal storyline. Sexyred1 is right, BDSM is NOT the focus of the film!

When she scrambled back after being pulled away.

No wait: There was that point where she just threw away her kit.

And then there was the point that Mr. Grey recognized his inner demons and accepted them.  Haven't we all been there?

I blame the dust in the air for the water in my eyes.
