near hi-jack:

There's something definitely going on tech-wise at cm. Sexyred is listed as secured in a quote box (post # 59).

9½ Weeks > Secretary.

Secretery was entertaining because it was funny and "cutsey".

9½ Weeks was meant to shock old women in retirement homes.
It was - "so what?"-ish.

Wrong on both counts, for me at least. If you read both books, you would perhaps feel differently. Especially 9 1/2 weeks. I read it years ago and am still haunted by the final line in the book; it will haunt me forever.

Isn't it something about wondering if she"ll "ever be warm again"? I liked how much more fleshed out Mickey Rourke's character was in the book.

Yes, it is something she says right after she recovers from a nervous breakdown and she is back home. She says something like, I will never feel normal without the bonds of his around my wrists and she puts her hands over head.

It is just too tragic that she may never get to experience such intensity again. At least that is how I relate to it.

For TwoShoes, I am able to identify with all genders in films and books; if they are good characters. Mickey's character in the book is actually not that fleshed out, but it almost does not matter. It is simply a character study of two people over 9 1/2 of intensity.

Yep. Agrees. Shock value of the film so cheapens it, unlike the quirkiness of Secretary.

I think those of you who think Secretary is just cute are forgetting what it's like to be young and inexperienced in the ways of BDSM and D/s. Don't forget, at some point we all used to find being pushed up against a wall dangerously sexy, and being told to bend over a desk was just completely inconceivably hot

Seriously... why does it have to be psychologically scarring to be a good D/s movie? Secretary has heart and quirk and a very convincing love story - I recommend you all watch it again as if you're brand spanking new to the scene, and just check out the energy between Gyllenhaal and Spader. There are so many deliciously perfect moments to enjoy.

If you turn off the sound of "The Secretary" vs "The Pet", you'll get better visuals from the latter.

The Pet Movie didn't have good technical cinemagraphics but was a good story.

The Secretary was very well done treatment of a story line that could be summarized as "Two dysfunctional people find happiness in complimentary dysfunctions after defying societies attempts to anathematize their dysfunctions." Yeah, my cousin the psychologist put it that way.

If visuals are all you care about when seeing a film, then porno is your friend. If you like to think and feel, movies work better for cerebral stimulation.

Oh, and The Pet was one of the worst films ever made. If human sex trafficking turns you on, go for it.

Just recently watched it, and would like to hear others' reactions.

I really am unsure about how I feel about you watching it.  I guess that's my immediate reaction.  My second reaction is there were no blowjobs, so I found the movie sort of unrealistic based on that.

Hope this helps.

Oh, there were blowjobs in it, they just hid them to frustrate everyone on this thread who needed the visuals.

You should check out the film called Troll 2.

The Pet reminded me (in an unfortunate way) of Exit to Eden.

You take a good book, and you tack on an extra storyline to make it more interesting for a common audience. (Exit to Eden)

You take a decent look at objectification via human pet play, and you tack on an extra storyline to give it pathos and controversy. (The Pet)

Agreed. And all the porn in the world has nothing over that scene where Spader slams the piece of paper down on the desk in front of Gyllenhaal. It lasts about two seconds, and is the perfect representation of what I need as a sub.

I suppose Secretary has a really soft spot in my heart because it genuinely did open up my mind to the possibility that I could really have what I'd always wanted (and felt guilty about). You know the scene where she breathes and white fills the screen, because suddenly something has clicked for her in a magical release? I walked out of that movie breathing white too

My opinion : this movie sucks. I was totally unimpressed and didn't even finish watching it,which is rare for me - I usually stick it out , and I try to find some redeeming quality  no matter how much a movie underwhelms me, but not this one. I'd rather roleplay a game of secretary any day.......

Another movie which got a lot of attention but made me feel the same way was Tie Me Up,Tie Me Down. I watched it all the way through but thoroughly disliked it. Again - I'd rather do a kidnap roleplay any old day,or evening, or whenever. than spend any minutes watching this........
