Actually, it's not. Extra screening is extra screening. That experience, coupled with the TSA's own *current* policy statements would seem to indicate my point is both valid and correct. But I can see how it would make someone with no valid point resort to little more than making personal attacks at both a poster at odds with your position and an entire group of people who are just trying to make a living.

Your response only confirms that lowest expectations are now to be considered the norm. Your reference to current 'policy statements' indicates that you are completely out of the loop as to what is actually happening in real life today, and you've obviously ignored all the posts in this thread relating to r/l experience with this latest fiasco. In fact, you've quite obviously ignored any newscasts for the last two weeks, and perhaps for the last seven years. We've changed presidents since then, just to catch you up on things.

The fact that you have no consideration for anyone but yourself (low self-estimation as that may be) and further take as insult that others do not lower themselves likewise speaks volumes.

I was about to say I'd said that self-same thing, then looked back and realised I'd removed it in an edit, as it didn't sit in the context of the post I was making at the time.

But yes - that was part of my thrust* on this subject; the steady erosion of a people's rights under what I consider to be a very fine Constitution, even if it's not mine (as I'm a Brit and we sadly don't go in for such things). Yes, it' not "the government" at 1st hand; they've palmed off the responsibility onto businesses making a mint out of people's paranoia - a paranoia they (the government) helped stoke in the first place, but the buck stops with them, in terms of protecting the rights of their citizenry.

Security is a balance; if you want "total security" then what you end up with is a police state. I don't think many Americans would vote for that, or support it (and rightly so), but that's what they're sliding towards. It's like the sea battering down a stone wall; it doesn't all come crashing down in one go. There's a pebble of rights abuse here, a grain of personal freedom there ... and then one day you wake up, look around, and you're stood on bare rock, with nothing between you and the cruel sea but your dreams.

Taking reasonable precautions is one thing, but what's being done in this case is neither effective (as witnessed by the opinions of many security commentators) nor is it a fair and proper way to treat ordinary citizens.

In a way I have to wonder if it is the point of no return.

The roads are absolutely CRAZY here now and the stores are bad too. We had a brawal at the mall yesterday. In 2 days- I was in skin of teeth, 3 near car accidents.

This is a small town area- where "nothing bad ever happens". There is no excuse for this behavior.

.....so I ponder that as animalistic that we have become- the the scan pat is part and parcel of this brave new world we have built - where materialism trumps life.

a somber idea - to be sure. argh.

The Beeb* do a boxed set of all 4 series. The first one isn't all that (Rowan Atkinson & Richard Curtis writing, rather than Ben Elton & Curtis for the other 3), but has its moments.
