Now, I will admit to a certain bias here. I currently work at a job in the private sector that provides no health insurance (and no, it won't under Obama's health care bill, either), no retirement, and no holidays, sick time, or paid days off. I get no overtime unless I work more than 60 hours per week. That said, I'm still grateful to have a job in this economy, even if things kind of suck right now.

By the way, if you are on an hourly pay scale your employer is breaking federal law.

But then you don't really care do you?  You are just grateful to have a job.

Overtime For covered, nonexempt employees, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires overtime pay (PDF) to be at least one and one-half times an employee's regular rate of pay after 40 hours of work in a workweek. Some exceptions apply under special circumstances to police and firefighters and to employees of hospitals and nursing homes.

Some states have overtime laws. In cases where an employee is subject to both the state and federal overtime laws, the employee is entitled to overtime according to the higher standard (i.e., the standard that will provide the higher overtime pay).

Umm... can we discuss the actual bill and what is happening in Wisconsin instead of both sides taking the usual personal pot shots at each other?
This. The state is broke, and simply cannot continue as it has been. They are facing a 3.6 billion dollar deficit in the next few years. Before anyone starts on raising taxes, read the next paragraph.

Wisconsin taxpayers are currently paying 94-95% + of the health care insurance premiums for state workers in Wisconsin, with the workers paying less than 6%. Even if the bill passes, taxpayers will still be paying 87% +, with state workers paying 12.4% of the premiums on their own policies. Taxpayers are currently (I believe) footing the entire bill for public worker pensions for vested state workers. Under the bill, the workers would be required to contribute 5.8% towards their own retirement.

I find it rather ironic that taxpayers who may or may not have any health insurance, pension, or even savings of their own are currently paying nearly everything for the health care and pensions of public sector workers.

I find it ironic that you don't realize people take public sector jobs for the security and benefits.

It is certainly not for the extravagant salaries.

And when those benefits are cut who do you think will take those low-paying jobs?
I find it incredible that you see ONLY what these people want you to believe...that they are not paid that well. They ARE paid well for what they do. And your own statement that they take these jobs for the security and the benefits speaks directly to the main reason that they are up in arms...it isn't over the children's welfare or the betterment of education, it is over the fact that, GASP!!!!, they might have to actually CONTRIBUTE to their own retirement. Oh....My....God.

So your point is you have a really shitty job and apparently don't have the desire to find something better, so you are bitter and angry that others receive more than you?

No...her point is that taxpayers are getting fed up with paying for the lion's share of PUBLIC sector employees' benefits. Benefits that far exceed what many of the taxpayers themselves have. Her point is that those of us NOT working for the public but working nonetheless...good job, bad job, high salary, low salary...do not have the benefit of a TAXPAYER-subsidized care/wage/benefits package before AND after we retire.

Convenient how you ignore the percentages of what the taxpayers pay for those benefits...

What amazes me is that everything these mobs are doing theyre doing in the face of the voters who elected the people currently in power, the voters who sent these representatives to do exactly what they are doing.

Democracy means nothing to these people.

Excuse me, the government is their employer, giving them high pay and extremely generous benefits. These union goons are lazing about on a sweet, sweet gravy train that the taxpayers cannot afford, and thats the bottom line. Either the state declares bankruptcy and negates the union contracts altogether or they work together with the state to reach a compromise. The governor is trying to reach a sensible compromise but the unions are demanding bankruptcy.

Let them go into the private sector and get real jobs if they dont like what the state is offering. Let them try to mob a private employers home and terrify his kids, and find out how life is out here in the real world treats them. Let them apply somewhere people have to actually work  if they dont like their cushy life-long state jobs any more.

And what are you going to do when there are no longer applicants for these "cushy jobs"?

The only people that are getting f++ked over are the people who are paying teachers salaries and finding their schools shut down by an illegal strike. 650 teachers called in sick by 6 AM this morning shutting down the Milwaukee school system. The union boss is 'proud' of the teachers because they are thinking of the future of the students. What a load of crap.

so says the man collecting his.

Can you prove 650 teachers were not sick?

OK, fuckstick, leaving the matter of the budget aside, what do these goons take home in the way of cushy-life long gravy train sort of deals?

As far as goonish cunts go, I would say the nutsuckers are the world champions of slaughtering children:
http://www.thinkprogress.org/2010/03/20/code-red-gun/

Additionally, I find it not only onerous but expensive for the state that part of this bill would require yearly voting on the union.  The bill is fairly commonly republican retarded as well, with the spectre of inflation looming (thats a nutsucker ideal) it is going to be quite easy for them to get 15-20% colas ain't it?  Is that an intended consequence?  And say that doesn't pan out, and they want a raise above cola, as the government slashes other benefits like healthcare since they are so adamant against its reform, causing untold millions of dollars being wasted.   Well, its a strike, and a costly referendum....

Where is the savings there?

I believe that federal and state workers are considerably overpaid, and there are bargaining tables and contracts and negotiations to handle that.

This is grandstanding by a vicious goon who has no thought of giving up any of his gravytrain lazy sweetheart deals, but taking it out on the backs of the people WHO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN!!!!

Oh, I forgot Tom, you are a nutsucker, education is abhorrent to you as well as that child molestation conviction, so you don't have children.

"The average Wisconsin state employee gets $24,500 a year. That’s not a very big pension. The state pension plan, 15% of the money going into it each year is being paid out to Wall Street to manage the money. That’s a really huge high percentage to pay out to Wall Street to manage the money."
yeah someone is getting screwed for sure

States fucked up with the pension plans. Now they want those paying into those plans to pay for their fuck ups. What happened to going after the perpetrators instead of the victims?

Honestly, in this case the union goons are playing the part of Hosni Mubarak,  growing wealthy at taxpayer expense while blatantly defying the will of the people.

Where is Obama? That two faced bitch should be backing the Democratic process, not those desperately clinging to power in spite of the will of the voters.
