Wisconsin Senate to vote on anti-union bill

MADISON, Wis. – Protesters clogged the hallways of the Wisconsin state Capitol on Thursday as the Senate prepared to pass a momentous bill that would strip government workers, including school teachers, of nearly all collective bargaining rights.

The nation's most aggressive anti-union proposal has been speeding through the Legislature since Republican Gov. Scott Walker introduced it a week ago. After clearing a major legislative hurdle Wednesday night, it was headed to votes in the Senate and Assembly.

<snip>

Thousands of protesters, including children and teachers from more than two dozen schools forced to close due to high absences, were expected in and outside the Capitol for a third day of protests. Schools in Madison, the state's second largest district with 2,600-union covered employees, closed for a second day.

<snip>

They chanted "Kill the bill!" and "Recall Walker!" early on Thursday. But there appeared to be little doubt the bill would pass.

"Kill the bill"? Oh my... how ugly.

That being said, the governor certainly would have MY vote, should he seek the presidency! A guy with spine, how refreshingly different - I like that.

We will have to wait to see how strong... or weak... the (political) life force is in this one.

I've lost interest now I know he isn't the one who used to be in the Walker Brothers, I'm afraid.

Union(Goons)s want to overturn election result

Say you generally liked Gov. Scott Walker's move to rein in government labor costs but had a few doubts on his method. The last few days should have cleared that up nicely.

The public-sector union tantrums, meant to make lawmakers wobble, have an inadvertent message for the rest of us: Voters can vote all they want. We can elect a cheapskate governor and a Legislature to match. But come the moment, unions will have the last, loudest word.

They'll have it if takes marches. They'll have it if it takes what amounts to an illegal strike, with so many Madison teachers calling in sick Wednesday that the district closed schools. If it takes showing up for a we-know-where-your-family-is protest on Walker's Wauwatosa lawn while he was at work, the unions are sure they can outshout any election result.

This is exactly why Walker is right to limit the unions' power over government spending.

Well said.

I wonder if crossing state lines could possible be construed to be job abandonment?   Just wondering.   Not a suggestion nor point of argument

Two questions.

First, why did you just make up your own headline for the story?

Second, why does this article completely contradict what you quoted in your original post?

Let me refresh your memory:

MADISON, Wis. – Protesters clogged the hallways of the Wisconsin state Capitol on Thursday as the Senate prepared to pass a momentous bill that would strip government workers, including school teachers, of nearly all collective bargaining rights.

Yet this is from your latest link:

Walker, remember, is not removing unions' fundamental power to bargain for wages.

Do you really have any idea at all what you are talking about?

I hope the democrat senators that left the state never come back. If this bill doesn't pass the alternative is mass layoffs. One or the other will happen.

Question for you

When has Sanity ever not used half a story to his point?

Yes, they need to give up their bargaining rights so they can retain their jobs.

It's hard to believe you were a union employee with that mentality.

But or course, you just happened to work for the only company with a good union.

In other words, you were happy to accept your benefits but fuck everyone else.

Of course it isn't, and I think even less of him now that I know he hasn't heard Scott IV...

Nice headline - "Compared To Hitler".

Must be a taste of that new civility that leftists keep preaching to us about.
