ORIGINAL: tazzygirl Its a statement used only when discussing abortion rights. Its not a blanket statement used to garner rights for drug use, bank robberies or other illegal acts. Abortion is still legal. In that aspect, a woman does have the right to do what she wants with her own body. I don't see how it would apply to bank robberies, the statement isn't "a woman has a right to do what she wants with other people's money" after all. I'm just wondering where the line is drawn. "A woman has the right to abort a fetus" would be better, if it's just a statement of fact, but "you can't take away a woman's right to abort" is a lot less persuasive than "you can't take away a woman's rights over her own body." Legality is one place to draw the line but then the statement is sort of irrelevant when it comes to keeping abortion legal. "My body, my choice" wouldn't be able to hold up against "no sorry, it's illegal now."
