Fine. Let them alienate a segment of their market. The bride will go buy a dress somewhere else and the store will lose business (even more now that they have some notoriety).

Good lord! Are you even old enough to be on this site? You look 12!!

That was rude.

He looks his age to me. Maybe you're just too old to remember what a teenager looks like.

If they don't want to sell to gays, they don't have to. Gay money is sufficiently green elsewhere, I assure you. Mind you, they're clearly cunts and I'd quite enjoy telling them so, but we don't need a law for it.

Would you feel the same way if they refused to sell to black people?

Absolutely. It's sad and backwards, but they shouldn't be forced to act against their conscience.

What about the things covered in the Civil Rights Act...refusing to sell a home, or refusing to give service in a restaurant or hotel?

You can refuse to give service... you can refuse to rent a hotel room.... you just cant do it based solely upon skin color, disability, ect.

Its not just the bridal gown... its that, the bridesmaid dresses, the flower girls... sometimes even the mother and mother-in-law dresses.  These are business that make money.. and not just on the bride.

All of it is pushed at the same place.  Why not buy it all in the same place.  Ever hear of a bride's maid dress shop?

Tolerance runs both ways.

Why should the business owner be forced to be tolerant of something her religious beliefs say are wrong without others being tolerant of her religious beliefs?

very simple, because a business is regulated by deMOB and there is no religion in commercial enterprises.

simple as that.

The gubafia classifies what a man is required to do to survive such as selling wedding dresses and as such it then is "re-venued" as a commercial business so now it is taxable.

Isnt it amazing how simple shit is when you understand the crooks that you all vote for operate?

Red Pills anyone?

Oh and while we are here the gay person who wants to buy the dress well their being gay is also part of their religion.

Now we have commercial secular courts running private affairs.

Some day people will learn.  Nah not in my lifetime LOL

Wow.. stupidity should BURN.

Where do I start?

Wait, so when she went into the store, and tried to buy a dress that was for sale, she was being intolerant of this woman's religious beliefs? In what part of this scenario is the religious woman in question facing intolerance? Are you feeling ok?

quote:

ORIGINAL: littlewonder

if you are gay and you know this shop doesn't like gay people marrying, why would you want to buy a dress from them anyway? There are a ton of other shops available for someone to choose from them.

I can think of a few places that don't cater to gay people because of their religious beliefs. The gay people i know are fine with that because they are respectful of that person's religious beliefs.

::facepalm:: She obviously didn't know the woman doesn't like gay people marrying, she found that out by getting her business rejected and being brought to tears on the phone.

Also, I seriously doubt you know any gay people who are fine with businesses discriminating against gays.

Anyway guys, if something that is legal is against your religion, then you reflect that by not doing it. You don't try to make other people feel bad for doing it when it harms nobody. Is she preventing this marriage from happening? No. All she's doing is being an inconvenience and adding negative energy to the whole affair with her bigotry. If your job involves doing things that might go against your religious beliefs, then you need to be doing something else.

People can have strong religious beliefs and still perform at their jobs.  This shop owner obviously feels strongly about her convictions.  Strong enough to turn down a sure sale.

That is, in fact, her right to do.

Its also the right of every paper to publish this story.

Its the right of every bridal planner to refer bride's elsewhere.

Its also the right of bridal columnists to write what they wish (see previous post with link).

When a woman becomes a bride-to-be, she seeks out all the sources she can find to make that day as perfect as possible.

The last thing she wants is drama.  What she wants is advice.  Those in the know with the experience have the ability to steer these women elsewhere.

In this, Aylee is right.  Tolerance runs both ways..... so does intolerance.

The shop keepers intolerance may very well be her own downfall.

I disagree with the Civil Rights Act. It was well-intentioned, and in many ways had a positive effect, but on principle I disagree with it. It's not the place of government to dictate that. In any case, the majority of the issue had already been solved via boycotts, apart from repealing racist laws (which obviously I should never have existed in the first place) all the Civil Rights Act did was formalize what had already happened.

People have a right to be wrong. It's just that simple. If they are not actively taking steps to make the lives of a given group difficult, I believe they should have a right to passively decline do whatever they please. That is to say, if they are attacking or harassing minorities, that is something the law should intervene in. If they are simply declining to interact with them, that is not. Forcing people to pretend to be tolerant won't actually make them tolerant.

EDIT: Quote was getting a bit dense.

I think that if we're all going to agree to live in the same country then there are certain all-around concessions that have to be made, and I don't think that a pact of mutual non-discrimination in business is unreasonable. That person may want to exclude blacks, or gays, or [insert minority here] But everyone's taxes go maintaining the road that people use to get to that business, and for the fire department to keep it from burning down, and the police officers to help keep the streets safe.

Also, soldiers who go and fight overseas are doing so for the WHOLE country.

I'm not entirely sure I see the connection between the necessity of legally restricting the right of business to decline service and socialized roads, services, and defense. Could you elaborate?

It's simple. Roads, the fire department, defense internationally and locally in the form of the police force, are all paid for by taxes. Taxes, are paid for by everyone, in every demographic. It's not fair that the people being discriminated against still have to pay taxes that would go toward all these services that the folks down at nazi-burger still have the right to use.

They'd be denying service to people who did nothing to deserve such treatment, while still reaping the benefits of their tax dollars.
