Hey Tazzy...I know but that has nothing to do with me as a bartender having by law to serve them.

By law, you dont have to serve anyone alcohol.  As a waitress, I got a few pregnant women in from time to time.  One glass of wine is what most would order.  Two tried for more and I refused.  The owner of the restaurant asked me why I would not serve them more, and that I didnt have the right to make that choice.

I proceeded to inform him that, as far as most publications were concerned, and most OBGYN's, that a glass of wine with dinner is fine.  More than that, there is no proof it cannot cause permanent damage and I was NOT putting my nursing license on the line.

I left him to deal with her.

Dont judge me because I sin differently than you.
If you want it sugar coated, dont ask me what i think! It would violate TOS.

That's cool Tazzy but I am not a nurse and as far as Maine law states, I can not refuse to serve them. Plain and simple. I coud be terminated for not serving them actually, and yes, we have discussed this at work.

Good for you.   I like that idea.

What's more alarming to me than what this fool did in her bridal shop (which IS discrimination, and against the law) is the number of comments by people who think it is no big deal. As someone else said, if the person were black and this happened, it is unlikely people would view it the same way.

It doesn't matter how one tries to dress up bigotry with comments like "we would just go somewhere else, no big deal." It still amounts to being as much of a bigot as the shop owner. Worse though, since they profess to have gay and transgendered friends and lack the guts to stand up for the rights.

I hope that this young woman sues the shop for discrimination and causes the shop owner to go bankrupt. Let her religion pay her bills and see how that works.
