Because it's funny, it's cute, its apropos, it appeals to both the girls and the guys, and it is also in line with exactly what every one of them is thinking about most of the time. They're all thinking about being felt up anyway, so why not catch their attention with that thought.

I don't know, Barely. To me, it doesn't seem like a lascivious sort of slogan - just a fun one. Do girls in their teens get scared of breast cancer? Damned if I know.

You know what popped into my mind when I was reading this thread? (OK, I'll admit that this is quite a jump and I'm being weird.) Here in the UK, in WW2, the popular term for the German flying bombs - the V1s - was 'doodlebugs'. Give them a silly name, make a joke of them - and then they're that bit easier to deal with.

I don't like to think that women won't check their breasts for lumps because they're too afraid of what they might find. Does that happen? I hope not. But in general, in any given context, I know that it doesn't do to make people too scared of enquiring after the truth.

Actually, they're anywhere between 14 and 19 as a general rule. When my girl is 17 and up, she'll be making her own decisions regarding this type of thing, until then, I have quite a bit of say, and I'd just say no.

I don't really see this as much different than the "I (heart) boobies" shirts. Or the "Save a boobie" braclets that kids wear all over the place. People come up with silly ideas to get more people to wear them and kids do it because they know at some point it will annoy someone into protesting about them. The kids get to be "cool" and the parents get to piss and moan. For some reason that equals win for the people actually trying to fight breast cancer...don't ask me how they just think it does.

My fav is still "Save the Tatas". First time I saw it was on a ride to support a friend who was undergoing chemo for breast cancer. I just think it is cute, but, I would imagine it can be made dirty in one way or tuther.

The reality is that the school has enough on their hands trying to make sure that the kids aren't engaging in behavior against the rules, and those t-shirts, like it or not, invite contact that the school doesn't want.

Make no mistake, the cheerleaders chose that slogan specifically for the sexual response it would illicit. Want to raise money for breast cancer? Dress all in pink. Encourage everyone to dress in pink including the football players. Now THAT makes a statement about breast cancer awareness. These t-shirts? Nothing more than a subtle invitation for people to feel each other up. Yep they are doing it anyway, but the school discourages the behavior and most schools now have stricter dress codes about skirt/shorts length, belly shirts and the like.

Actually very few people are talking about breast exams or even raising awareness. They are busy talking about whether these girls should have been banned from wearing the shirts.

Think about it this way, would those shirts be appropriate if NOT related to breast exams?

They seem to have found a way to still have something to do with THESE slogan shirts (seems the fight here isn't really about breast cancer anymore), they can't wear them so they will sell them accoeding to NBC or ABC (peacock channel) news.

To me, this has moved from supporting breast cancer to a self-serving thumbing their noses at people who told them no. I hope it does in the end what they intended to do in the beginning -- raise money.

I agree LL. Just because we know some are doing it, doesn't mean we need to seem to condone it for all.

There are many ways to raise money and awareness without even the appearance of impropriety.

Lafayettelady,

I actually wrote a post that all the school needs is some boy touching a girls boobie "checking for lumps, to save her bumps," and all hell breaks loose on their heads. I deleted it because i figured those who NEED to have such a slogan worn by teenagers wouldn't get it.

Its a little hard to imagine how a shirt saying "Check for lumps, save your bumps" could be NOT related to breast exams, so the question is basically pointless.

As to people not thinking about it, well we have just decided that in a few minutes when Suze has finished eating, we're going to all check for lumps together. So it worked on at least four people.
