"I have to ask....are we not allowed to call you barely, Barelynangel, because I think I have done that in the past*confused face* Sorry if you thought it was rude of me(thats not snark I mean it)"
EXACTLY MY FEELINGS AND WHY I DID IT! (By the way, I don't get offended if someone doesn't want to type out my entire name at all! smiles)
-------------------------------------------------
"Getting back to what seems to be Clicks orginal question 'Is it rude to try to add someone as a friend when you have never spoken to them' I don't think the fact that I have a profile on a website means anyone can assume I want to be their friend anymore than a stranger walking up to me in public and saying we should be friends means I want to know them either."
SOMEONE FINALLY GETS IT!!!!!!!!! (Please note the words "RUDE" and "Assume"...correlated to "Presumptions"...that are being incorporated by this poster!)
------------------------------------------

"Click if I can give a little advice...point out to them that you think they are being a little rude and that perhaps they should speak to you before they decide they want to be your friend. When I do it they either just say they are sorry for assuming something and end up sending me a real msg or they never speak to me again. Both work out as win if you ask me."
AND I DO THAT!!! (But for gawd's sakes, just don't let the other posters here know that I do! LMAO)
-----------------------------

Hopefully, now that you heard it from someone you actually know and respect, I am guessing this ends it. Thanks much, MissImmortalPain! I owe you one! (SMILES!)

I know you chopped a good portion of the sentence that "you don't have a clue" was in and again got all offended because you pretty much took that as my saying you have NO CLUE about anything.  Just a suggestion to help your indignation of my using that phrase --it may do you good to go read the WHOLE SENTENCE, within which that phrase is contained in my post.

Clicka, with the intent of heading off at the pass, people who wish me to befriend them willy nilly, somewhere in the bottom of my profile, I made a clear statement that I do not accept friend requests without having first having had multiple communications with someone, and have developed some kind of bond with them. For while it may be meant to be flattering, I find it somewhat presumptious, and an overstepping of social boundaries. Then, if I think I want someone as a friend, I'll usually PM them asking their permission first. Since I put that in my profile, I have not had any unsolicited friend requests. Perhaps that might be of use to you.

As for the admirers thing, being out of my control, I don't get upset. I consider there are many reasons someone might do this. Maybe they want to contact me at a later time, or think I'm ugly and silly looking, and want to show their friends, or they want to borrow something I've written so they "mark" me for further reference. Sometimes I'll fav someone if I like something they've written in their profile, or on the message board, something of which I would like to be able to refer back to at a later time.

I'm somewhat stimuli sensitive, and sometimes the facial pic of a person I don't know appearing out of nowhere feels almost invasive, like they're looking in my window without permission. Sort of like the Peeping Tom effect. I tend to make it a point not to look at any admirers unless I'm in a searching mode.

No from what I can see on this thread this would only become apparent when the OP opens her mouth and starts expressing herself.

Hmm. I've always considered the 'it's only pixels on a screen' thesis to be complete nonsense. Still, no point in getting into that one yet again.

Click - if this helps - for me, I get quite a different feeling when I see that 'Admirers' box lit up. I think 'Yippee!" Sometimes I write to thank the person who's clicked me as a 'favourite' to thank him/her. I suppose my conclusion is "I'm not really being admired in a true and passionate way but, hey, it's better than being told I'm 'special' in a spam advert."

You'll soon get used to all the oddities about this place. Including the way these threads always seem to go. ;-)

Ummmm... you know, if you really dont like someone having put you on their fav list then just view their profile and block them.. they are instantly removed from your admirers page. You would need to do that with each person, of course, so it takes a little effort (not much imo)..

"Hide User" does the same thing.

but with Hide User, I am guessing it doesnt hide you from them or stop them from emailing, is that correct? I sorta thought it was like making a poster hidden on the forum, you can't see their posts but they can see yours..

I have always just used block, it seemed more complete to me..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know blocking a user doesn't hide your profile from them either. Other than hiding one's own profile, there's nothing one can do to control who looks. And personally, I fall into the "who cares" category. But that's just me.

Ok, i had to test that.. yes, you are right, the blocked person can still view your profile, they can try to send you an email but it disappears, it doesnt even appear on their sent page. What does show up is the viewed me button turns red but that person doesnt appear on the page.. I always wondered why the button would turn red but no one new appeared on my viewed me page.. mystery solved.. lol

I wonder how many times guys email the girl that blocked them before they realize their emails arent getting thru..

I am going to clarify ONE LAST TIME!!!

I believe people are being presumptuous when they add me to their favorites list BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT ASKED ME IF I WOULD MIND IF THEY DID!

Yea, you were just looking for opinions, not emotional about it at all.

As others have said, if someone has you listed as "friend," YOU accepted the request, that's the only way it happens.

As for the "favorites" being presumptuous because they haven't asked your permission....they don't need your permission.

If you can't see that you are coming off as thinking you are "oh so special" no one here can help you.  Your comments are no better than the people who make statements that people are "following" them and it creeps them out when added to favorites.

Honestly, I'm almost tempted to put you in my favorites list just to piss you off now.

Someone shows up on your Admirers page when they add you to their Favorites, something you have NO control over.
NBMG

thats not true, actually... you can view the admirers profile and then block them.. they are instantly deleted from your admirers page.. so it is also something you have control over, just as accepting or rejecting a friend request..

Actually they just don't show up anymore.  They are still there, you just hid them.  So then a person can get all paranoid wondering how many times the person is looking at the profile and "stalking" them.  The whole thing is ridiculous.

She was talking about people who want to be her "friend," not people who add her to their "favorites."

THAT is what makes your "presumptuous and rude" statements ridiculous.

I fave folks all the time. Sometimes cuz I like their posts, sometimes because I like either their pics or something about their profile, or sometimes it's because they seem interesting and I wonder what will happen to em. Then there are those casual acquaintances I fave just to follow them, see what's new in their lives.
