yeah, see, that's the problem I'm having with turning 40. I'm restarting my life now with my daughter gone, I've sold my home I lived at for over 10 years, sold or gave away almost everything I owned, up and moved to another state to be with Master, quit my job and now I'm finishing college since I was never able to before, going on a vacation overseas since I was never able to and just doing things I want to do for me now.

But I think about how half my life has "wasted" away. I know I know...I raised a daughter, worked in a career that will help me to advance when I decide to go back to work, etc....but I still feel like I should be so much further ahead especially since I see my friends from high school who now have good jobs, have really done stuff with their lives.

But it's funny....4 of them either got married or just got engaged and just had children or currently pregnant while I did that 20 years ago lol.

I went through almost the same thing, minus the having kids part.  But here's the thing. I spent my 40th birthday alone in New York City, front row at the Macy's Parade (yes it was on Thanksgiving that year) - then met up with my sister and we saw Chicago on Broadway.

And I thought - oh hell yeah THIS is LIFE!

That was my starting point to start getting the most out of life and really enjoying the time I have left.  It's been awesome ever since. Life isn't about accomplishments, it's about enjoying what's around you, loving, giving, experiencing, exploring, etc...in my book, anyway!

Interesting use of the word "car".

needlesandpins -> RE: How old are you? (2/4/2012 12:37:27 PM)

in april i wil be 40. like others my mind feels younger and my body sometimes reminds me just how old i am. i have a bit of a problem being 40 because i'd hoped things would be so different now. however, those feelings are only because for the things i wanted time is running out, they only have so much self life.

as for the rest, well i have some things in my life that i'm very thankful for. still, i can't wait for this year to be over.

as for april being a month of great women....too right! my grandma and my niece are a couple of days later than me in the month too.

You're probably going to fall victim to a pyramid scheme.

Aileen1968 -> RE: How old are you? (2/4/2012 2:37:41 PM)

I am 44 fucking years old and I hate every second of it.
My brain is still 20. My body is 60.
I'm on blood pressure meds. I'll be on cholesterol meds in the next couple of months.
I have early symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
I have herniated discs in my neck that continually hurt since I've started working a fairly physical job which means I'm lucky if I get three hours of sleep a night.

Buuuuttttttt.......I'm in love with an incredible man. My girls are healthy. Outside of neck pain, I'm healthy. I'm having a blast in life.
So things really aren't so bad. Just wish I had that awesome twenty something body I used tohave with six pack abs and an ass to die for...for Shorey.

Aileen1968 -> RE: How old are you? (2/4/2012 2:49:21 PM)

So I'm out to dinner with Shorey and my eleven and nine year old girlies for my 44th birthday when my eleven year old reminds me that my ex's girlfriend is only 38. "Six years younger than you Mom."
Thanks kid. [&:]

JanahX -> RE: How old are you? (2/4/2012 4:15:36 PM)

Im 40 but look like Im in my late 20s. Sometimes I feel like I'm 9, and there are times when I feel like I'm a million years old. The guy I dig has a childs heart and a surgeons brain. Its awesome being 40.

doctorgrey -> RE: How old are you? (2/7/2012 1:05:22 PM)

I'm having carbon dating done....(I'll get back to you).

(It's the only dating I've done recently....just for the record).

favesclava -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 2:18:45 AM)

young enough to kick ass , old enough to afford a good lawyer.

Politesub53 -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 4:04:53 AM)

I was 53.......... I guess a few of you had that figured. [;)]

Aynne88 -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 5:48:08 AM)

45. I'm ok with it for the most part, but working in the bar business is different than a lot of jobs. I can remember being in my 20's and 30's and hit on non stop. Now it's a bit odd to find that happening less and less and watching the 20 somethings I work with get it. *sighs* fucking fragile egos...blah. All the working out, facials, good diet and botox still can't make 45 look 25, believe me I know.

LaTigresse -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 8:29:55 AM)

Annye love, quit trying. Start rocking 45. It's totally fucking better than 25. I promise.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 8:40:12 AM)

isn't that the truth![:D]

GreedyTop -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 8:42:13 AM)

I am actually looking forward to 50.

(11 more months!)

Sundowner -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 10:46:28 AM)

In so many ways I deeply love being old (older than GT) - if we've had a following wind in life we find we've got buckets of really good stuff (qualities and situations, not just things) and a social climate in which to enjoy it all. No-one told me it would be this good and it's crept up as a surprise.

But Aynne's comment about you still can't make 45 look, or be, 25 is so achingly true.

There are the wistful times when I'd just like to flick a little switch and be 25-35 again for a while.

I'd come back though. [sm=smile.gif]

GreedyTop -> RE: How old are you? (2/12/2012 10:48:17 AM)

I love you, SD. You said it just right:)
