I got 100% on my hand gun test....

Hillwilliam -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 5:16:09 PM)

Excellent.

Have you qualified on the range yet?

poise -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 5:24:09 PM)

Congrats! And thanks for the totally hot image this just conjured up. [:)]

OsideGirl -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 5:30:06 PM)

I qualified when I lived in CT 20 years ago and CCW'd.

Since our county has a policy of not issuing CCWs unless you're blowing the Sheriff, qualifying would be purely recreational. In CA, you have to take the test and the certificate is good for 5 years. Then, the DROS form, you have to safety check the weapon in front of qualified witness and then the 10 day waiting period.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 5:32:02 PM)

It's easier but takes longer in TN.

The class includes qualifying but the background checks are pretty stiff and take up to 75 days.

Yeah, when I did it in CT you had to take classes, range qualify and the background check for CCW. My sister in law is a police officer, so I think things went a little easier for me.

ashjor911 -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 6:02:56 PM)

congratulations

Kaliko -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 6:46:20 PM)

Congrats.

Do all states have that testing requirement? I live in NH. I think I can just go to the 7-11 and get a gun, right? :)

OsideGirl -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 6:49:39 PM)

Dunno about the guns, but I remember we used to make liquor runs to NH.

DarkSteven -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 8:06:09 PM)

You'd be a VERY handy friend to have when the zombie apocalypse comes!

TNDommeK -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 9:36:32 PM)

Congrats! That is awesome.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Completely off topic (4/8/2012 10:22:08 PM)

Damn. In my county, I got my CW permit without a test. So congrats. Are you actually going to carry?

OsideGirl -> RE: Completely off topic (4/9/2012 7:27:34 AM)

Carry concealed is virtually impossible in our county. The sheriff has a policy that he doesn't issue them.

Regardless, I'm actually getting a gun for home defense. I work from home, so I'm home alone all day. Our house is U shaped and the front door is at the bottom of the U, so you can't see our front door from the street. There's been a rise in home invasions in San Diego and I've been getting some really aggressive solicitors lately. If someone were to push their way in, no one else on the street would see it.

They have ammunition called "Zombie Max". It's a hollow point with green wax in the point.

Master keeps teasing me. When I was trying to decide what gun I wanted, I rented a 1911 .46ACP. It was my first time shooting a .45. Out of 20 rounds, half were in the center mass. He keeps telling me I'm lethal.

For home use, think about frangible ammo like "Glaser Safety Slugs"

http://www.shopcorbon.com/glaser-safety-slug/500/500/dept

They will do a LOT of damage but won't overpenetrate. This means no riccochets and in case of a miss, they won't get outside the house to possibly hurt someone else.

In the event of an investigation, they will also offer pretty solid proof that you are conscientiosly doing your best to not injure any innocents.

I have a Bulgarian Makarov 9mm on the 10 day wait. It takes a 9mmX18 round, so we're going to be ordering ammo online once we get it home, since it's kind of an odd round.

Ask and ye shall recieve.

OsideGirl -> RE: Completely off topic (4/9/2012 8:55:25 AM)

I saw that. I think I'm also going to buy a case of normal ammunition, so I can spend some time getting to know the gun. Plus the slide is a little stiff and needs to break in.

That's brilliant, I guess that means you are 100% certain never to have an accident with your handgun and that you are 100% sure that you will never accidentally shoot anyone who doesn't 100% deserve to be shot and you are 100% sure that a child will never get hold of your gun and shoot someone. Also I suspect you are 100% certain that your own gun won't get used against you.
I fucking love that 100% certainty thing, makes life so easy.

Are you 100% certain you'll never have an accident with your car? Are you 100% certain you'll never accidentally hit someone with your car? Are you 100% sure that a child will never use your car? Are you 100% certain that you won't have your car stolen and used in crime?

Don't like guns, don't get one. Your snark was rude and unnecessary.

hardcybermaster -> RE: Completely off topic (4/10/2012 3:48:07 PM)

Unless you can think of a better way of transporting supplies (often weighing over 100 kilos) 3 tool boxes, spare parts and briefcases to and from various suppliers and three shops I would like to know how my car is involved in this. My car is 100% necessary for me to do my job and keep a roof over my and my loved ones heads. Unless you are in a war or living in a war zone a gun is NOT a necessity, it is a stupid vanity for people who can't see how dangerous they are and how much harm they cause.
There is no such thing as an unnecessary comment against gun ownership
