First, I stand firmly behind the Second Amendment. Second, I will say that if you are threatened, or feel threatened, and you take up a defensive posture or a posture of warning, such as to let the other person know either implicitly or directly that if they come closer they will be subject to attack - and they continue to engage in behavior that you interpret as threatening, then they deserve what they get. Third, if a person ever enters my home uninvited for any reason, they will either be incapacitated or dead in very short order. And it won't make a sound. The main problem with a gunshot is that it alerts all your neighbors who immediately call the police, and in no time you are explaining what happened and justifying your actions. Anyone entering my home will find that the lights don't work, and that furniture is placed in such a manner as to preclude easy movement through the rooms and also to produce noise as they bump into them. The lights won't work because the electrical panel was placed deliberately in my bedroom, where I can kill the master power switch at a moment's notice. They would not die by gunshot. They would die by either crossbow bolt or by the blade or spear. My neighbors would sleep on, and in short order the body would be buried in the backyard under the begonias. And then I would repair the door or window, and go back to bed.
