Every once in a while, the 301 class shows up. It's not why I came, but it most certainly is why I stay.

Did we ever hit upon a consensus?

I think the consensus is, that although the definition of sadist and dominant are worlds apart, there is normally so much overlap between the two that it's just assumed a sadist will be a dominant (not a fetish delivery device), and that a masochist will be submissive, and not "forced" or "punished" into obedience.

And I have to add, that although I certainly respect everyone's right to their own dynamic, I don't respect those who are combative and hostile in defending their dynamic when they have not or can not adequately explain it UP FRONT.

That explanation up front would have saved many angry words and kept the thread on topic. To assume everyone on the board remembers the nature of your dynamic is quite egotistical. But that is, of course, merely my own opinion.

If that's the standard, I'm probably fucked up to a lot of people.

For the sadist...pain is the erotica. The sadist views the inflicting of pain as sexual foreplay.

But when does the level of pain go from being erotic to just painful ? I mean for many reasons the level of erotic pain does not mean that the person is a sadist. Or does it ? I believe that I am not a sadist, because I know that inflicting pain upon the body for a level that goes over the erotic boundary is not for me. I like to give the hightened exstacy of the female to a certain point where she can melt and not to a point where she twitches from the pain. This is why I consider myself not a sadist from my eyes. However punishment is different, in my opinion.

A Dominant is one who is in control, and this extends to all the areas of his life, both physical and emotional. He derives satisfaction and pleasure in the exercise of that control, and recognises that with Control comes Responsibility. As such he should naturally provide protection, both physical and emotional, to those who are submissive to him. He will not see this as a burden, but rather a duty, because his actions will always be consensual.
A sadist gets his enjoyment, physical and emotional, from the infliction of pain on others, without care for their gratification or otherwise. He enjoys the suffering he is responsible for , and cares little for its consequences.

You might be confusing Sadistic personality disorder with consensual S&M.

MASOCHIST: One who experiences arousal, excitement, or sexual gratification from receiving pain. Contrast sadist. Commentary: Contrary to popular misconception, a masochist does not experience arousal at all forms of pain; stubbing a toe, for example, is unlikely to be arousing. The context of the pain is important.

SADIST: One who is aroused, excited, or receives sexual gratification from inflicting pain on another. Contrast masochist. Commentary: A sadist does not necessarily take pleasure in inflicting pain indiscriminately; for most sadists, the pleasure relies on knowing that the subject is also enjoying the experience.

SADOMASOCHISM: Any activity or practice involving the inflicting or receiving of pain; pain play.

DOMINANT: A person who assumes a role of power or authority in a power exchange relationship. A dominant takes psychological control over or has power over another person, and may, for example, give that person orders which are to be obeyed. Contrast submissive; see related top, switch.

DOMINATE: To assume or exert control over; to take psychological power over. A person who controls another person or takes control of a scene is said to dominate that person. Dominant is a noun or an adjective; dominate is a verb. Domination, dominance: the act of wielding authority over another.
