From Monty Pelerin's World -

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

It's so common sense is it any wonder so many don't see it. But of course the politicians would go apoplectic over it, seeing as near 40% of the working population are SNAP participants and would lose their voting franchise.

Just noting that these violate the 4th and 5th amendment.

How? It's not being foisted upon anyone by law but by voluntary contract.

First, it's not "your" home as you neither own it nor pay rent via your own efforts. It's part of the deal, contract, you enter into.
As to selling the rims, etc... those are luxuries and most people would have expected one to divest themselves of such in their own support prior to requesting public 'taxpayer' aid.

You realize that rice and bean and cheese are not consider a part of healthy diet, no veggies or fruit...very bad.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

FYI they can and do test of alcohol and drugs..smoking is not illegal. Also, unless life threating and even then it sometime does not go that way, you can not force a person to have medical treatment...

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

When El Toro Marine Base closed there was attempt to make part of it a place for homeless and low rent. The Realist Lobby put an end to that on.

In California you are required to report to a job sit to work, jobs like cleaning up parks, roadways etc. You can not force a person to sell private possession, you example sounds racist. And if you going to do that, how about guns, those big tires on the trucks, the gun rack on back of the truck, etc.

How about all those Corperations that the government pays them..."Corperate Welfare".

Never heard of that one...

No, if I was attacking the messenger I would have attacked you. I pointed out the authors were incredibly naive people who believe totally debunked garbage.

When there aren't enough jobs to go around due to the work that the bulk of the people who wind up on welfare might have done being outsourced to Asia, that message sounds more like a crypto fascist pipe dream than anything resembling "common sense".

WTF!?!? Outsourcing isn't the topic. The topic is but one cog in the wheel that needs repairing. Why is it so many like to blow a topic up simply because it does not discuss every facet? Is it purposeful leftist derailment because it's dangerous and anathema to progressive ideology?

Yeah, what the "claiming to be all of 21" wrote is a bit hot for you to touch. Isn't it! Better to take a running swipe and call it a day.

When there are no fucking jobs penalising people for being unemployed is hardly a helpful solution to the fact that serious problems being caused by there being no fucking jobs to be had.
If you resent there being a permanent underclass, then maybe you should have spoken up when you were sitting back and watching the domestic manufacturing industry that used to provide employment for the people who are now doomed to welfare being dismantled and shipped off to China and India.
Connection simple enough now, or do I have to put a video on youtube with little glove puppets and words of one syllable for you?

Yes there is a connection but such does not make outsourcing part of the topic, now does it.

When you're proposing fantasy solutions that you've apparently gleaned from a bad '80s SF film to the problem of unemployment, the actual source of the problem is worth discussing.
The basic problem with the explosive growth of the permanent underclass over the last thirty odd years is basically down to ill informed monetarists who share your values failing to realise that they needed to wipe their arses after shitting all over the economy.

I'm pretty sure the author didn't feel the need to make the list absolutely comprehensive. I'd bet even aspirin, bath soap and toothpaste would be on that list.

I'd say the author is pointing out that people on such public assistance are not entitled to top shelf living. Like using such funds to buy cigarettes.

Don't you think?

You'll not find that in the OP. So, no, I do not think it worth discussing here. There are threads where it is though. Feel free to visit them.
