A poll about what you think about gun ownership, and laws.

You can pick multiple choices.

There's no 'Just get rid of guns' question. Just saying - as a non-American, that omission really stands out.

All 4 of mine are within the top 6 (one is tied for 6th). I did not choose to reinstate the assault weapons ban.

I know a man who is an auto mechanic and a gun nut.

The other night I sneaked into his garage and took all of his wrenches.

The next day I brought my car into his garage and asked him if he could take a look at it.

He told me he couldn’t really do anything because someone had taken all of his wrenches.

I said “THAT’S RIDICULOUS. WRENCHES DON’T FIX CARS - PEOPLE DO.”

And you think this is something to brag about? You think this somehow makes you look good? What a shame the cops didn't catch you in the act. Now that would have been funny.

It is interesting to note that more stringent back ground, checks 19%, reinstate the ban on assault gun 17% and mandatory gun class are the highest...but don't tell the NRA they would never allow it.

Laws?

This bein' the worldwide web n all, you mean the whole world or somewhere more specific?
Saaaay, somewhere where guns don't kill people at all - like gun-hump, USA?

I didn't vote, btw, and I'm esp confused by the bottom option.... (refer to my opening remark)

Focus.

Yes, this is primarily about the US, and the bottom 2 options are for you foreign sorts to be able to weigh in

One thing I find interesting is how the gun control argument centers around need. As in "Nobody needs a gun like that". I can't think of another right that has ever had to meet the standard of need. Rosa Parks didn't have to show why she needed to ride in the front of the bus. It was a right - it was not based on need. Abortion? How many women who have them every year really need them? Doesn't seem to matter. The SCOTUS says it's a right. It's not based on need. Suddenly a right that it printed out in black and white in the Constitution has to meet a standard of need. Makes you wonder if we aren't really the United States of New York.

I dont care if you need them or not. Have all you want. But just be responsible for what you own. 500,000 stolen guns a year tells me not everyone is.

Rosa Parks riding in the front of a bus vs owning a weapon that can kill someone or several someones are both rights, but are not the same.

Abortions are another legal activity that's under fire, both legally and ethically.

Same for the Vermont Rule, as a right needs no permit.

Actually, if we want to get technical, riding in the front of the bus isn't a right, per se. If there are no seats in the front, no one has ownership of a place up front to where someone else can be forced to be moved back. Rosa Parks wasn't really protesting not being allowed to sit up front as much as she was protesting not being treated equally due to the color of her skin. Her protest occurred on a bus, but it could just have easily occurred at a "whites only" water fountain.

Two years ago my home was robbed. They stole a gun. The police arrived (45 minutes after I called) to collect their information for the report. When I listed the items that were stolen and got to the gun he winced and started calmly lecturing me about not having it locked up. I walked over to the door and pointed to the still engaged deadbolt and the splintered door facing and asked him precisely what did that look like to him. I then asked him if we were finished with our business and pointed again towards the now un-closeable door. The house was locked. How many of those 500K guns do you think were left on the sidewalk for anyone to take?

All of my medicine cabinets had been opened. Should we have drug safes, tazzy? Some degenerate meth head kicks in my door and it's my fault. Lovely. I'm the victim here but suddenly I'm at fault. You might want to avoid rape discussions.

You chose to keep a deadly weapon with significant value to criminals in your unsecured, deadbolts are laughable security, home so yes, you are responsible for not having acquired and used a gun safe.

I dont see a deadbolt as much of a deterrent. Those locks can be picked, kicked in, jimmied. Why would you assume that would be enough to ensure your "very dangerous weapon in the wrong hands" would be secure from those wrong hands.

Reminds me of a house Generic Dude was in a few weeks ago. The guy had an entire spare bedroom full of assorted weapons and ammo. The only lock was a cheap padlock screwed into the wood door frame and whatever the standard was, or wasn't, on the two windows. Nothing else. it was a hollow core door as well. There were no extra precautions with either the windows, the interiour door, or the exteriour doors. And, when he went to show off his cache......he didn't have to unlock the padlock. It was just hanging on there.

His wife was running a daycare from the house as well.

Such a safe and responsible gun owner.
