I think it's practically impossible to be a Dom without a huge ego unless you've also been a slave, and people with huge egos are disproportionately narcissistic.

I think this is kinda what I meant. "Not seeing the Other as equal", to go back to Jungian stuff. Maybe (to carry some more Jung dead weight) the wannabe tarot boy should look at his own "Shadow" and experiment a bit more with his 'anima' rather than give in to the inverted Prince of Wands card from the Crowley tarot deck and merely - metaphysically - suck his own conceptual wang.

The Mountain Astrologer people are gonna have a FIELD DAY with this, OP. And luckily, under the USA satire laws, if you end up in their cartoon section, you cannot complain.

I don't know why you would believe this. I view it as totally unrelated. Dominant just means you want to be the leader in the relationship. It doesn't mean you are automatically unable to put things in perspective, that you cannot be realistic about your capabilities and so on. In fact, a dominant who does do this will be more likely to have a lasting relationship. Look at people like Dark Steven for an example. Because he is not arrogant, because he's self aware which by itself requires that you don't have an overinflated ego, he gets the lasting respect of his sub.

Being a Dom means subs are going to throw themselves at your feet. Hard to not get a bit of an ego from that.

I am more attracted to a quiet sense of confidence and seal assurance than an arrogant egotist.

Certainly, more people who call themselves Doms do it. No Doms do it though.

And having a quiet sense of confidence and self assurance are not mutually exclusive to having a big ego.

since the OP abused his right to mention the DSM, let us remember that ego (which is properly pronounced "ay-go", not "eee-go"), in it's proper definition, means one's perception of self (which may be a severe, disapproving perception of self), whether a positive perception, or a negative perception.

A self-loathing neurotic with anhedonia has ego, just as the dimwit frat-monkey who has achieved nothing but selling used cars and bashing queerfolk while thinking himself a champion has an ego.

Except the jerkwad at least isn't hiding behind any cockless or clitless 'netiquette' which they mistakenly view as a license and shielded by which and from behind which to get uppity when they show no evidence that they deserve such a privilege, in fact show nothing but an outmoded and cliched style of 'snark' that was wrinkled and flabby about ten years ago.

Interestingly, I find that one of the most secure things one can do is be open about your insecurities. It's not like we don't all have them. It's people who try to pretend like they don't that come off as the most insecure to me.

I've never had to throw myself at a Dom. In fact, even now, long married and 47, I still have Doms approach me at events.
