Monday afternoon at Cobb Grove 16 Theater in Wesley Chapel, Florida, Chad Oulson was shot dead in front of his wife at a screening of Lone Survivor. According to the Tampa Tribune, seventy-one-year-old former police officer Curtis Reeves was seated with his own wife, behind the Oulsons, and grew irritated with the noise Chad was making while texting his 3-year-old daughter. Detectives say Reeves asked Oulson several times to stop texting, then left the theater to seek help from an usher. When he returned, Oulson asked whether Reeves had reported him to management. An argument ensued, and Reeves claims Oulson struck him in the face with an unknown object. Witnesses do not report any punches, only that they saw popcorn go flying. Reeves then drew a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol and shot Oulson through the chest, also wounding Oulson's wife. Here's what we know about the deceased:

Curtis Reeves, 71, has been named by the Pasco County Sheriff as the suspect in the movie theater shooting that killed one man and wounded a woman in Wesley Chapel, Florida, reports Tampa Bay Online. The altercation broke out at around 1 p.m. local time prior to a screening of the Mark Wahlberg movie Lone Survivor. The victim, Chad Oulson, 43, is said to have been texting his daughter when he was confronted by Reeves. Wesley Chapel is a town close to Tampa,Florida it has a population of around 45,000. really? and Im a domme why??? my husband and my pet are men just fine, neither feel the need to be abusive to anyone, or shoot someone.
you must be thinking of someone else.

Well, Lucy, I'm just running through possibilities that might explain you being so sympathetic to a man who would taunt a pensioner, and throw popcorn in his face, in defense of the right to be a dick in public.

We clearly have a case of assault and battery, regardless of the fact it was with popcorn.

A 71 year old man may well have been in fear of bodily injury if the asshole was big and violent.

Absent fear for his life - the 71 will go to jail.
Its definitely going to be another debate about stand your ground

However, all that said - the world is a bit nicer of a place minus one and perhaps two assholes.

The jury will figure it out. I'm going to hope the old coot gets a jury that likes going out to movies, but still has more decency in them than the ones that let the killers of Kelly Thomas walk away.

They had nothing actually bearing on the case.
It is beginning to look like self defense will be a major factor.
If Reeves was struck in the face he may be home free.

You mean like links??

I mean that how much his wife and daughter loved him has nothing to do with him assaulting Reeves, if he did.
You may have taken note of the fact that Reeves didn't go after him he went to management and Oulsen
started the fight with him for having done so.
That doesn't matter though does it Reeves had a gun so he is a murderer, right?

One thing that strikes about reading the follow-up stories on this is that Reeves went to the theater management to complain, but nothing was said about what, if anything, management actually did about it.
